Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?
Julie norton replied to needtorecover's topic in Rants & Raves
If we only knew in high school..... That 5 or 10 extra lbs can be just the way you are built And the yoyo dieting is gonna take us away from our normal meant-to-be size Or that some of the "pretty" people were also kinda stupid. Or some of the "nerdy" people were so smart, and would go on to success. Or that high school would be such a small portion of our life. IMHO I do like the "love yourself" notion.... For me, it wasHard to love a body that I didn't like Life is better at a healthier weight for me And I like myself more[emoji171] -
A rant about dentists, dental care, dental insurance and TEETH!
Julie norton replied to Sharon1964's topic in Rants & Raves
My wonderful insurance. No dental. No Vision. 5 k deductible. $1110/ mo I will be changing shortly To silver affordable. We shall see which worked best -
Really like this forum. It is so real. Everyday life meets WLS life. Yes, the 10 lb thing up and down sounds fairly regular to most of us. I am grateful it is 10 and not 100. I just keep doing the best I can and the years just keep going by.

Any vegan lap banders out there?
Julie norton replied to catlover602's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find I eat less red meat and pork post surgery. Lots of chicken... But beans and rice, nuts, tofu, quinoa, eggs, cottage cheese, sliced cheese, some time tuna. I like eating less animal products. I feel good and it makes me feel a bit better that I am ignoring and not supporting factory farming Good luck. Lots of smart cooks on here! -
You are doing well! Trust the process. Continue to eat right. Drink too much water (kidding) work out or walk when possible and KEEP GOING. Try a few more months and see where you are. Your doctor or nutritionist may have some hints for you. Good luck and keep posting. I feel this site helps a lot! You may need several more fills before your body wants to change and not be hungry.

First Colonoscopy next week - tips?
Julie norton replied to Baconville's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
The best hints I can give from my experience is have the prep liquid ice cold. Then get some magazines, or a good book, buy some soft wipes and don't plan anything out of the restroom for several hours . The next am wasn't as lengthy . Good luck and hope all is well. Think pink healthy colon!! -
On 2016 I am going to...
Julie norton replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm going to relearn how to load and clean my pistol. I used to be so anti gun, until I stayed in Alaska for an extended period. but now widowed.... I don't care about items, but don't know what to clearly do if the invaders want more than "things". Just my way of feeling safe Ps. FYI No kids anywhere around my house -
Best Protein Bars?
Julie norton replied to rydersmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Combat bars are worth trying. Quest are great, but they don't agree with everyone's digestive track, And they can cause gas for many. Pure protein are decent imho. For cost, I will sometimes get a box of those at target. 20 g of protein and 190 calories -
NSV at 2.5 Years Post-Op
Julie norton replied to AvaFern's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I second the tailor idea! I had very nice, almost new clothing that just didn't fit correctly after a TT. For a nominal fee, I had them contoured, and felt like I had brand new, personalized clothes. I did have her add some custom touches with appliqué, Buttons, grateful dead emblem, etc and it felt like I was so good to myself!! I needed to ask around, as there was a large difference in what seamstresses charge. (I would think a good hint would be if they work out of their home, saving a lot on overhead costs) It was one of the best clothing moves ... Our bodies do change!![emoji418]️[emoji625] -
How did you deal with changes to your hair during regrowth
Julie norton replied to Djmohr's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I try to use Enjoy morrocan oil when my hair is drying and looking fly away. Trying to avoid hot curling irons and using regular, old fashioned curlers... Seems to help... Also, as others have noted, my hairdresser is adamant about not washing hair more than 3 X a week. Kinda hard after workouts... But it has helped a lot! -
Glad to see some people back after hiatus. I think we all offer something unique... Weight gain is very personal ....and it is different to be so open about weight loss. Keep posting. We are all wanting better lives for ourselves and our families.

The second most painful experience of my life..omg...this was bad
Julie norton replied to CowgirlJane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hoping for a speedy ending to your painful ordeal. You are not big on complaining here , so I assumed it was super painful . We are thinking good thoughts for you[emoji93] -
Just had an unfill yesterday and liked reading about the mindset of eating like you're at maximum fill. Ultimately it is up to each of us what we decide to put in our mouth and how active we choose to be. I just liked having the restriction.... Giving my band 2 weeks to calm down before I go for a small fill. Hoping I do well I should know the rules to keeping this weight off by now!

What on earth is happening?
Julie norton replied to TheProfessor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'm many years out and my take is some weeks I'm way more hungry than others. Conversely sometimes I'm not hungry at all. Water can be helpful... Hot tea... Exercise... Maybe a bit more protein at mealtime. Sometimes I just have to have hours of being hungry and being ok with it. For me, it does change.... I just don't know when. Let us know how you are coping[emoji93] -
Where the heck do you order a dozen deep fried chicken gizzards? Never heard of such a thing. Thinking it is regional?

Wishing others would "lounge"
Julie norton replied to Julie norton's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the reply CJ. Ya. Soup always works. I just find my social life is .... Different. I really can't drink much. .. Like one cocktail... Don't eat much.... Not sure I can "whoop it up"anymore except for about an hour.... Those long dinners with appetizers and desserts are gone... Gosh. I do sound a bit like a party pooper!!
