anyone else here had surgery more than 10 years ago?
Julie norton replied to Dawncherise's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I had my lapband surgery in 2006 ... Don't know if I can help, but I am available if I can answer questions. Feel free to private message me if you don't want to publically ask. I like the caring and sharing this site offers. Best of luck. -
FDA Approves the Aspire Assist Stomach pump, a Minimally-Invasive Alternative to Weight Loss Surgery for People with Moderate to Severe Obesity
Julie norton replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If like to see more trials and results from 2-3 years later. I wonder if you can use this multiple times with breaks inbetween? I won't be judgemental about something that can change someone's weight and their outlook on life. I'm also thinking this could be useful for someone who needed to lose weight in order to qualify for surgery... Say knee replacement for instance. -
As hard as it is, I try a liquid protein shake day to start things back in the right direction. And I read the info from the doc about my band... And I ask ? here... Lots of support and info here about restarting weight loss. Best of luck to you. Try to remember why you had your surgery[emoji171]

Hi Banded friends, Hope everyone's summer is starting off right. We are having typical foggy mornings and pleasant afternoons on the coast . After 34 years, I am moving next Monday ! Not far, but jeez... Going through every drawer and cabinet and closet ! I have been boxing items up for over a month, and though I am tidy, I have entirely too much stuff! Had a great garage sale....still too many "things" ... Looking forward to changing my surroundings... Kinda Bittersweet, as a widow of 2 years, having to go through many old pictures and some of the last of my late husband's possessions. Trying to decide what will grace the walls....what to give the kids, what to pass to his sister etc. Trying to stay positive and not dwell on the past... Lots of memories here. Please wish me luck. I really need it. The emotions keep coming.

Well.. Closing in on a decade of this banded life: It truly is a life style make-over that we need to maintain through the years as I see it. No more on and off dieting.... Seems like a small regain is likely.... Though some have not experienced that.. By stats, many others must bounce upward. For me, a liquid Protein day occasionally does seem to help keep my hunger at bay for a period of time. If I (very) occasionally overdo , I seem to get more hungry the next day, and thus have to have a light day, or the lapband road is paved with land mines. Gotta say, this was one of the best decisions of my life, and I am grateful for the availability of WLS . Without surgery, I saw nothing but yo-yo, unsuccessful weight gain.... Now I feel like I can live at a comfortable weight and life just goes on..... May it always be so! I am thankful.

Grateful every day
Julie norton replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Enjoy everyday of your vacation! You work hard it appears .. So play hard now! Lots of stairs and walking and a gym on board if you choose . My choice was to bypass the buffets mostly and pay a nominal fee($5-10)for a "fancy" Sit down steak/ lobster type meal. Other ships have sit down/ waited-on restaurants for every evening meal. And...free room service if you just want a simple meal brought to you. Hope you have a blast with lots of family... And climb in and out of those tenders with ease, smiling as you vaguely remember your old, limited life. Bon voyage[emoji568] -
Way to clear being stuck
Julie norton replied to dyingbreed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As another long term bander... I also put my hands above my head and walk a bit to help a stuck band. I also lay on my left side on a heating pad if I can. Hot tea can help ...or sometimes come back up. Haven't tried to touch toes but will keep it in my pocket. My band is loose right now. Getting a small fill after some stressful things pass next month. Stress really affects my band. Happy with the results... Long learning curve for me, but coming up on 10 years and the days are all better than mine were at 250 lbs +. Nice to hear from other veterans -
The over 40 crowd
Julie norton replied to jersey0601's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'd like to think I have more wisdom and patience now. However, I'm entering the 4th quarter of my life likely and I am way more healthy than I was at 40! Best of luck -
It helped me regain my healthy life.

Any regrets?
Julie norton replied to luv_pineapple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are post op. Please trust your choice, follow all dr. Instructions... Many of us are the happiest and healthiest we have been in years, thanks to the band. Don't believe everything on the internet. The band works for a lot of people just fine... They may not post much. For some it does not, and they post about it and their revisions. Now that you are on the other side, welcome and try to enjoy what could be the best decision of your life! Please keep us updated. Ps. NO REGRETS -
May your daughter always remember the fun of that day!

Memorial Day Weekend .... Next Year
Julie norton replied to gina171's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is a great 2017 Memorial Day list. [emoji631]Hopefully, as the year goes on, you will not have to think about fitting through tighter spaces, or what someone may be thinking of your size. WLS does so much good for so many.... I am thankful And I wish the same for others. It is a bit of a personal emergence to the different and healthier you. Losing weight is fabulous.... But keeping it off for years (8 for me) is the kindest reward. The exact number you end up at may not be perfection, but still healthier and great for your emotional well being! Best of luck and keep posting. -
Before and after in your sixties
Julie norton replied to Julie norton's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks Celeste ! I am certainly over the 60 mark and 61 as well. I do feel better than my 50's though! -
Before and after in your sixties
Julie norton replied to Julie norton's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You're not in your sixties though! But you look GREAT. Keep it up, or should I say down. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -
You seem to be so strong. I really admire that with a lot of adversity around you right now. Wishing you peace during some turmoil.

I hope we do worry a bit about each other. Sometimes I feel like this is one of the few places I can chat and people truly understand. Life gets complicated and our digestive systems can sometimes take the brunt of it in my opinion. I get new energy from the newbies, but adore reading about us "oldies" that have been around awhile. Even though we haven't met, chatting about relationships, death, bathroom habits all spill out here and it is ok!!!

Social Isolation
Julie norton replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes. This is one of my favorite social sites. I like my own company, but I do fret a bit about spending much of my free time alone. Especially now, widowed, and getting ready to retire even more from part time to almost no time. Don't really want to be out much. Am I just a real introvert, or somewhat depressed and don't want to go out to bars and restaurants etc? Don't know. -
Ladies, what do you consider your ideal dress size ?
Julie norton replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I a m appreciating my 10-12 for years now. I understand I could obsess and fight it down to an 8 , but that is not my life now. I spent too many years not liking where I was and fighting myself . I'm done with that mentality now . I enjoy this size. It feels right and normal to me. I have stayed here for years. I'm thinking this is where my body wants to be, and I'm agreeing with it. No more internal struggle... Spent a lot of my life in that endless endeavor . This is me -
Say one nice thing about lap bands
Julie norton replied to Julie norton's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Specialk. I feel the exact same gratitude. 60's are much healthier! -
I'm a fellow bander who shares the problem of not being able to eat in the a.m. coffee or tea seems ok. By the afternoon, if I can try to get a little lite lunch in, (Soup. Small salad etc) I'm better. If I wait, the first food has to be easy on my stomach.... Once I feel more open, I'm ok for dinner.... I tend to eat early Just another major adjustment I made to my life to make it work at a much lighter weight. Not always convenient, but way better than any day I had at 250+ lbs!

When will the "full" feeling return?
Julie norton replied to Lisa1996's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This may be one of the most important changes since surgery for me. After years, I just don't get the drastic swings of "im so hungry... I'm so full"... Like I felt pre surgery . More like yes, I need to eat something ... Or I don't need to eat right now. MUCH different feelings of hunger and satiety. It took me a long time to recognize these were so radically different from the "before" part of my life. I'm thankful, because it allowed me to think differently about food... I would not have believed that pre- band. -
I have the band so I'm not sure about different procedures, but I do know smooth move can be an important part of my regime. There are times when you just need to go, and I find success with SM. I also like the taste... Maybe a bit like licorice.

Pedicure Right Now!
Julie norton replied to cseidman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I get the gel/ French tips also. For $30....and it does last about a month. I put clear over it about every 10 days, but I find it to be good value to have my hands look sharp daily. -
I feel like we are all lucky to have the opportunity to regain our health.... At our ( ahem) mature age. It's a different thread here than the ones who are 20 something and starting. We have a bit more of life experience and I , for one, am not willing to compromise on this golden opportunity to live a much better life. It has been over 9 years and my sixties are better and way healthier than the years I spent being obese.
