Julie norton replied to Diva Taunia's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Great article about changing your lifestyle. Not just your body composition. -
Does "comfortably full" no longer exist?
Julie norton replied to Rachel412's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It is rare for me to feel full ( banded 12/06). I more count on not being hungry. That is a big difference that took me years to learn. I feel like the surgery is there to guide you for a year or two, but if you don't heed the lessons, many cannot keep off their excess weight. I wish all Wls people luck in 2017!! -
I just want to give up
Julie norton replied to WitchySar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Glad to see you took the leap of faith. Keep believing and follow your program and 2017 can be fabulous and life changing!!! Stay the course and don't look back! -
Don't eat and drive. Happy holidays!
Julie norton replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Actually. Don't eat and drive is a decent mantra...for short trips. Long car trips take a bit of planning for me. But it works!! Banded 12/06 -
Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Julie norton replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Some of us vets are still around ... banded 12/06. Lost 100 lbs. kept almost all of it off... ( sometimes I get down to lowest weight... about once a year)but truly have to try and comply. I seem to have a comfortable set point at size 12... that is fine with me. Dr said I am fit and well fed!! Ha -
12 days post op and gaining?
Julie norton replied to ChunkyGirl79's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Trust the program and don't weigh yourself for a bit. Your body is trying to adjust and it will comply if you do what your dr and nut advise. You can get very frustrated at points, I sure did. It was hard to believe this surgery will work after years of frustration...just know it will be different this time if your behavior is compliant.keep going and reevaluate in a few months. I think and hope you will be happy! Good luck!! -
Ugggh! Flu season
Julie norton replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That darn flu gets around. It seems to be very stubborn. I'm on my 8th day and finally upright. Usually I'm a very healthy person so it took me by surprise. Vomiting with the band was also difficult. Glad to be recovering. Severe bronchitis and dehydration got me to urgent care. Rest and hydrate!! -
Well. One holiday gone (and all the sweets gone to other homes). Another new year coming. I'll be home celebrating the NY midnight at 9 here. I'm still thankful for my band teaching me.... it seems like it eventually falls to us personally to maintain good habits... please don't mistake me for someone who doesn't make errors. I just try to correct them earlier.. I'm at 1.5 out of a 4 cc band and maintaining my weight loss for 10 years Not at dr goal. But at my spot where my body seems to always come to.. I'm healthy and mostly happy..another year comes and goes....

You might be a WLS patient when...

Hey need some friends that can relate
Julie norton replied to sharktank's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maintenance is never ending. Seems like a few cocktails or dessert will put me up and boy, I have to work for weeks to get it off. All relative ... 5 lbs extra vs almost 100 ten years ago -
Why is the band tighter in the morning?
Julie norton replied to send2steph's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have just come to accept that breakfast won't be happening at my house. Unless I make eggs for dinner... My dr says theory number 1, but I'm not sure it matters why.... it has not changed in 10 years. So be it. -
Some thing seems odd about discouraging exercise. This may be the first program that I have heard recommending that. Perhaps at the onset to adjust, but even a slow walk can do wonders for a busy mind!

Researching doctors in Mexico
Julie norton replied to sheronep's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm booking a nip and tuck with Dr Ramos at the end of January. I went and did a walk thru and met staff... looked at facilities etc.... all very clean and good. My question is do they drive you back across the border? I can't stand in an hour plus line after surgery to walk through. I have heard the dr has some quicker way across the border with a lane. Does anyone know about this ? Thank you in advance . -
Dear Fairy Godmother or Santa...
Julie norton replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Sooo true. I WAS good enough just the way I was. And I did not know it. -
Got a fill. Now I have 1.5 in a maximum of 4 band. It is an antique from 10 years ago but still works!! I am thankful

I find soda to be part of my old fat life. I had to change! It has no nutritional value and may cause some acid erosion.... how come lots of very heavy people drink copious amounts of diet soda? Does not make sense to me as a weight loss product

My doc always warns me that when I have a stuck episode, take 2 days to let it heal with yogurt and cottage cheese... easier food. He swears that's when he sees band trouble: Trying to eat with an irritated band. I really try to listen to him.

Thank you Liz I always appreciate your wisdom as you have been through this. This year seems a bit easier than last year. Even though dad is gone now. I think moving and the new house helps me progress in widowhood/holidays. The band is getting a fill Friday so I have faith I'll adjust to the lower end of my range. Fun for you to have a beau to share lots with. Even though you notice the extra 10 lbs, I'm thinking he doesn't!! Ps. Nice to get the update Debbie .. the kids are moving forward as we all hope for ours!

When do you stop feeling like a wls Patient
Julie norton replied to chynadoll619's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think I'm still aware and don't eat "normal" compared to American diets. After a couple of years at maintenance, I could relax a bit, but never did it turn into days and weeks....that is new behavior I did not have before ... the old way was what got me to 272 lbs. I still mostly adhere to the holy trinity of protein water and exercise. ( don't mistake this for someone who is perfect and "gets it") fat head is still there somewhere.... just tamed for now -
VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?
Julie norton replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
It is nice to see familiar names and faces. Glad some die hards stick around. I don't know if people leave because they fail their program. Or just move on?! I'm suspecting some of both We are all trying to be healthy I think. We just have different ways. -
How do you break the habit?
Julie norton replied to JaneDarcy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This should be mandatory reading for all going into Wls. At any stage. Great basic info!! -
Wow. Last day of November. It seemed like a fast year. Hope all is well with my cyber friends as we turn towards other holidays and the end of a year. Yikes! (If I see another pumpkin pie soon, I'll be tossing it. In the garbage or maybe At someone....) I am so enjoying the soft glow of small lights around a few windows. I find it cheerful... sometimes a difficult emotion for a widow with all birthdays and Xmas ahead. This too will pass.

Photo Reminder
Julie norton replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't recognize the person in the pictures from 10 years ago. I am still surprised I was that big and really did not feel like I was. I am so thankful for Wls ... to just live life at a normal size. The world is easier to navigate in now. I will NOT go back! Keep going forward and know you have cyber friends here to help!! Best of luck! -
Yep. We have to work on ourselves and be compliant. I would not have thought thanksgiving would be hard after 10 years. !!A combo of no fill in my band. A cocktail. 6 pies... oh my.. back at it again today. Worked out Friday and will tomorrow.pies out of the house
-
Had a lost moment where 6 pies got a little too much tasting . Went and worked out today... determined to not let a small stumble be a large fall.... into a vat of pumpkin and whipped cream. Yikes
