I agree Liz... I do have enough going in in my world that I don't particularly care for sniping and sexual innuendos..I think admin did us a service. Just liked to laugh out loud at babbs!!

Sorry to see babbs go. Another one This one was asked to leave by Alex. Along with LLady, dub and littlebill I believe

I'm just the rogue voice saying that the band did and does work for some of us. As intended, you cannot overfill your band , or the real risk of throwing everything up becomes more and more a reality . (I for example, have 1.5 in a max of 4) The longer I go. (Banded12/06)The more I realize this is fairly much on me. Not my band . Takes some of us years to get it!!![emoji122][emoji122] I still try everyday. Gotta go find my water

That is a question only you can answer... every time I've deflated mine, I have gained. (Banded12/06) I am not willing to go back . Yes she is fussy but after my tummy tuck, I don't want to remove it. I have 1.5 in a 4 band. I leave it low and try to make good decisions. I'm following your thread Good luck

Lapband Surgery
Julie norton replied to journey2befit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with whatever surgery you choose. Please recognize you are going to have to change your patterns of eating behavior in the long run. I know it took me years to "get" it. And there are times I struggle (banded 12/06) But I still try!! -
I think I broke it
Julie norton replied to Lise2021's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I certainly recall the initial discomfort!!! I laughed when my husband discontinued binding medication. He recalled it as " passing a tennis ball". [emoji462][emoji462]I have heard women on here go so far as to say " passing a pineapple"[emoji531][emoji531] However you put it. It seems to get better and there are many suggestions posted on the boards. Unfortunately... my latest complication is hemorrhoids. Sigh. It is all better than 100 lbs!!! Good luck. Hoping it gets better and smoother soon! -
Prescriptions Trans border
Julie norton replied to Bon Appetit's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Yes. Last month I bought retin a. Over the counter in a Mexican pharmacia My girlfriend bought a strong solution. (30%) I stuck with the lower percentage (10%) doesn't dry my skin as much It did cost around $20 for me. $30 for hers. -
I have had a Wls card for 10+ years and only used it once at a Reno "all you shouldn't eat" place. I think it was $35. And I was post op and having tea and they let me join my husband... which was much more pleasant than sitting outside... Although to people watch: vegas, Reno , are great slices of America.

Let us also mention another reason the media bombards us with "quick weight loss ".... MONEY! Advertising sells.... programs have to be sponsored by ads. Madison Avenue Knows what people might listen to. And buy and try. And probably more than once!!! Repeat buyers for weight loss. Built in consumers. There we are with the ads and the programs and the.... weight for it....MONEY!!!! Who is advertising for Wls? Few and far between. Next year people magazine will do it again. Guaranteed Wls is hard work!!Maintenance is long and mindful. I could not have been who I am without Wls!!! Grateful! (Don't mistake me for self righteous... I work at my weight and fall down) .. I do however get right back up and try again Sigh. I try...mostly successfully . (Banded 12/06)

Best Plastic Surgeons in Mexico?
Julie norton replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I like Dr Ramos . He did a facial fat graft for me a month ago. I am visiting him again for a IPo thread lift later this month. I found the facilities (clinic/hospital)clean, the Dr efficient and cordial and the transportation to and from the San Diego airport worthwhile. I understand this is not a long term fix; the price is nice for a friend and myself to look a bit better in our 60's.... -
I've read about pea powder becoming popular. Not familiar with it. What do you do or mix with it?

I am in nor cal. Central coast. But I am a dinosaur with a lap band (12/06) I am happy to see others doing Wls. It is the best move I ever made. I lost about 100 lbs. now 90. But about once a year I get to the 100 lb loss again It is a daily process and protein and water and exercise seemed to be my trilogy. I am embarrassed to say I seem to have to pay my exercise trainer to keep me going. (I just don't put it first when I don't) Keep posting. Us veterans love to see the changes!!

Perhaps don't think of future problems while you deal with your current issue of excess weight. Maybe just one thing at a time. It could be a year before you have to tackle those issues. Lots of other things come up also. My take is you just have to trust the program and do the best you can. Good luck getting started!

15 years out
Julie norton replied to mizzjen's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
Seems to me, I have to work on the trilogy of protein, water and moving. After 10 years, I'm still so thankful for my band. And I work hard on this lifestyle .... I may not always Do well.... cocktails or sweets seem to be my nemesis... but dang it, I try. Almost all the time, I try. No more " I'm not thinking about my daily intake" More : patterns of behavior that work in the long run. Ps if there was a box of sees candy in front of me... I'd totally eat it. A lot of my battle is what gets brought into the house! -
Nice to see veteran kindle doing well. I adore seeing great successful stories ... as we know the boards are riddled with inconsistencies, non compliance and sometimes just failures of all sorts. I take solace in seeing others still on board with being conscious (almost) everyday and continuing to work our individual program Just a hurrah for those still around. We have lost many by the wayside. Heck. I miss Carolina girl and her no nonsense!

Airport Security Curiosity
Julie norton replied to DeletedMember's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I travel 4-5 times every year and in tropical climates I get checked thoroughly.. one of the tsa ladies mentioned if you are warm and perspiring ( like in Hawaii. Open air security) that it may trigger a check. Doesn't matter. I never have anything interesting on me... but I do let those cute young tsa men wand me closely and I am smiling -
Chicken breast doesn't like me. I'm with bandista. Chicken thighs braised in liquid is a frequent and regular feature at my house Gotta keep trying what will work for you. It took me a long while and I still get reminded if I don't chew .. Finally tho (after a few years )I learned not to drink with meals. Best of luck and please keep posting!

I had good luck finding another dr closer to my home years ago. A good bariatric dr can access ports fairly easily. Also self pay, so it does add up... I can go back for 3 weeks for free after an adjustment ... in case it's too loose or tight. Good luck

Great job. The best part is that it stays off!!! Just keep working your program and believe ... it will be a great year!!

Green Spot / Sweet Spot - How do you know?
Julie norton replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My take is this is your band training you! It is a difference having consequences .....vs eating with abandon anytime.(banded 12/06) I hope you can figure out what is the right amount for you to feel " not hungry". (Took me a long time to get the difference from full) We all just try to learn and respect the band hopefully. Good luck and keep posting Maybe the next fill will be just right. Please try to not count on rejecting/productive burping(pb) your food. As a vet, I do know that an irritated band is not happy... it takes me days of yogurt, cheese, softer food to let my band rest -
Losing before surgery.
Julie norton replied to Elizabeth73's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I hope Wls patients really learn to change some behaviors like I see posted above Like Jamielogical the best outcome for me was keeping off weight (banded 12/06). I was a bit unprepared that I would have to change my lifestyle....95% of the time. FOREVER. For me, it took years of changing patterns of eating and exercising to finally become more habit forming . I think I believed, like many, that the surgery would change my body.... and it did some of the work. And truly helped keep it off But iit took so long for it to sink in that it really was gonna be me doing the work... everyday. What a life changer. I am really thankful I got to keep my functioning band. I have to keep it filled low (1.5. Out of 4 max) so yeah. Once again, the onus is on me. Good news:Patterns of behavior can and do change.... for me, it is being mindful and yes I mess up And start again the next day. Repeat -
Anyone who does not count calories? Ever?
Julie norton replied to Newme17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a general idea of calorie count. But my protein count I work hard on. And always ... water . I don't know why I can't quite get that -
The menu does state the policy. At times, customers are not happy because they didn't read about a surcharge . Like 15% gratuity on take out at a nice place. That being said, trying to find a solution so they come back is the ideal way we handle it. We want people to come back. Give them a free drink or appetizer on the next visit. It can be done nicely for a win win

Interesting NYT article on WLS
Julie norton replied to DeletedMember's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I liked the article. The fact that rang the truest for me was resetting your set point. That weight which your body fairly naturally seems to want to be at. Although I fluctuate a few pounds up and down these past 10 years, I seem to stay at a size that I like (12) and that I can keep up with healthy eating and twice a week work outs. It took years for me to not fight with myself over food. The tamped down hunger factor really made this lifestyle stick, compared to all the dieting before. I think it is all relative. Starting from a high weight.... 100 lbs gone for good might be the best ending. Others want a specific goal and can attain it.... I ended up being where my body wanted to be.... and I feel fine and healthy. And thankful a decade later. My life is so much more navigable at a " normal" weight. I don't feel like I have to waste time and energy thinking about it.... that is worth a whole lot to me., We all have different ideas and goals. It is nice to see seasoned people discussing them. Civically!!!
