We seem to be compliant vets. I have no beef with anyone here and it is much kinder and less harpy and sexual now that Alex cleaned house. I am thankful.

Anyone gain weight after 3 years surgery
Julie norton replied to Luztomassini's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe this happens to many. Weight loss does get a bit tougher in maintenance . It is a daily issue for myself and many. I hope to put great days together and keep within my healthy range . Lots of protein drinks if I am up a bit.(banded 12/06) This is a life long lesson for me. And I keep getting schooled!! Some days are better than others. I am not giving up on this!! Hope you can find a way that works for your body. Sometimes staying a bit over a weight you like is what your body is saying to you. Whether you listen, or choose to battle it is truly up to you ! Good luck and keep posting! -
I have had a sharp pain in my port while bending. Thankfully it did subside. I'm also over 10 years out and do NOT want to trade in my band. Please tell us about any follow up

Julie norton replied to The New Kel's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Refried beans and cheese. Very soft. Can work well. Yogurt. Tofu ( some do some don't) Sugar free pudding for a big treat! -
What Vegetarian/Vegan Food Have You Eaten Lately?
Julie norton replied to Shana Lee's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I'm big on beans ... refried or just smashed. Lentils, split peas, quinoa. Maybe because it's been cold and I like something simmering? Baked tofu is tasty too (FYI I am not exclusively vegetarian... occasionally I'll eat chicken.) My band has encouraged grain protein far over any other product -
Refried. Or just smashed pinto beans helped me with protein and fiber. And helped with some issues of constipation early on.

I'm with you erp! I think I look younger. And I work on it.... lots of options with Botox and fillers .

Wondering if anyone had experience with thread lifts... kind of a mini lift. Much improved from older " lunchtime lift" 10 years ago. Very simple and reasonable ... how helpful? And for how long seem to be the big questions.
-
Simple and often go to foods seem to be a good sign for keeping weight in check for me.... chicken thighs. Cheese sticks. Yogurt ..beans.. some brown rice. Extra protein milk... some protein drinks and bars. Soups. Kinda similar eating patterns helps me maintain Good luck to all of us trying to live our lives years post op of Wls!

Mexico cost for thread IPo can range from 1000-1500 This is what my research told me

Glad to see a group of core vets stick around. I feel like we certainly are available for specific questions. I've been here for years and chose not to participate in sniping....or sexual innuendo... just not me. Happy to come here to read supportive posts... I count on it! It is a major help to me almost daily. I hope others feel that way. And use this site selectively for their information.

Veterans ONLY please. One year + post op.
Julie norton replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
This is not an easy stroll. I think it takes a tremendous amount of dedication and mindfulness almost daily( no one is perfect) My take is to try to have the good, healthy days continue in a row .... yes. They get disrupted by life, but in general... I start to try to string together the compliant days. ( banded12/06). The longer I do this. The more it becomes habit I fight some demons at the grocery store. If it is not here. I don't eat it!!! It is still a struggle. Mostly in the evenings. Good luck to all of us trying to maintain a healthy weight. It is not easy most days!! -
Welcome. Please take this as a new way of living. It can be so different from past failures. There may be some bumps. But follow your drs advice and change your life! I'm over 10 years banded and am so happy. keep posting!

It is about an hour procedure with threads and a kind of barbed end that pulls your skin upwards a bit. Some bruising. No pain. Results ok thus far. (Only one week) smoother skin w/ less creases is the goal!

Sharpie. How wonderful! I'm glad you are not alone. Widowhood is a lonely road.

Julie norton replied to Elode's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Read this full conversation I think. It has some good tips. Getting in and out of bed/ recliner was the most difficult for me for days. Best of luck. I'm very pleased -
Well. I jumped in and had one. We will see how happy I am with the results. Hoping for a few years off the facial time clock

I want to ask a question with out offending
Julie norton replied to krissyvsg's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My take is it is important to start and get to a healthier weight to decide on a final goal. I let my body decide because when I struggled to get the last 10 off , it came right back. Since it has been 10 years, I kinda get where my body wants to stay and what is comfortable for me Yes I exercise, drink water ( never with meals) and eat a lot of protein. I still occasionally get down those 10 lbs, but they then return in a couple of months. Repeat. I just stay a size 10-12 and am so happy to never see 270+ again! Good luck and let us know how you do -
Stay positive!
Julie norton replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I enjoy reading nice positive posts about our life and Wls That is helpful to me. Glad to be reading less drama ... -
I'm with you JWM. While the concept is good, I cannot deal with another person right now. I will say someone (a nice Atty) flirted me up at a party and it did do an old broad good! Truly not interested ( widowed 2 1/2 years ago) but nice to know a good guy was interested.

Gotta say. I too enjoy the tv show "This is us "... but I think they missed a big opportunity to talk about Wls ( and it's very low mortality rate) on the consultation with her Dr. It appears camp will be her weight loss technique. I believe she has stated she signed a contract to lose weight for the show this season... but not Wls. Well it is a start to see it mentioned on a weekly show.

Not losing weight 1 year banded
Julie norton replied to banded_gal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I second the above advice. (Banded12/06) lost 90 lbs and kept off.... but lots of self work !!! Exercise and protein... and that dang sugar. The less I have the less I crave... but the world isn't perfect and neither are we Smaller fills might help... but not too tight... that is no way to live long term. I know seeing a therapist helped me. Perhaps you want to think about that? This is certainly a huge life style change. And I still make protein drinks or eat a quest bar to keep my protein up. I do drink water and exercise a couple of times a week. I actually split a personal trainer with a pal. I have to show up. I paid!!! They are waiting!! Good luck. Think about why you got your band and recommit yourself if you want things to change! -
Hunger and Feeling Full
Julie norton replied to Redmaxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that is a good thing: feeling satisfied but Not hungry... it is a hard concept for me to grasp. -
Here come the haters!
Julie norton replied to AMJK79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I believe the secret eating plan is still alive and well. I just don't care for others knowing if I can eat a decent lunch ... or fill up and not eat more that 4 bites. Or worse, have it come up ! I do eat many small meals at home ... -
Why I Stay Here
Julie norton replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm very glad to see some long term vets showing up here. I feel like I need some group support. This is a long and sometimes lonely road. Especially without all those lunch and dinner offers that come up all the time. I can only make about 1/2... Thanks Liz for hanging around. You helped me navigate a bit of Wls with the devastation of widowhood.. Hoping many people with years of experience stick around!! I appreciate you!
