3 weeks post out and just starting to feel bad
Julie norton replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perhaps ask if you are eating and drinking enough. And keeping up with vitamins. Those issues can make me a bit dizzy if I don't pay enough attention to them. I am years out and still have to do my due diligence . Ask your doc or nut what can be best for you. We are all a bit different. Best of luck -
800-1,000 Calories
Julie norton replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yogurt can help. Refried beans/cheese if tolerated and ok by doc. Tofu (I like baked and flavored in the package). Perhaps sample other protein drinks and bars? Good luck. Keep trying!! -
My take on this: Just get up , dust yourself off and start again. That is why I choose surgery.... to have a different behavior pattern Keep going!! There is a group here supporting you. You have to do the work though. Your successful future May not include pizza.....Or soda ... Except as a VERY occasional item . If we want to change our bodies , We have to do something different. Really hoping for your great future.

Keep Going

Always encouraging. Even if we stumble. We try to start over. It's a good strategy imho -
What Are Your Weight Loss Surgery Resources?
Julie norton replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My support group seemed to be a conduit to Wls. Supported by the hospital. Taken over by a few blabbers. Poor moderation. I do like this site, but I kinda pick and choose the advice... veterans: You mean the most be me. You have traveled down this rocky road and have the scars to prove it. I read all the seasoned posts and I also try to encourage other newbies. Without sounding smug, sometimes I can see where some people are just not ready to change their deep habits and give it over to a new way of life. Thank you -
How Often Do You Weight Yourself?
Julie norton replied to Cindi_Augustine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 10 years post banded and I try to weigh myself every Friday am. If I miss, I often wait until the following Friday. Like many, my body has a new set point it likes... I can fight it and get down 5-7 lbs with much effort, but it does seem to like to revert back rather quickly .... I am just happy with my 100 lb loss maintained. Not perfect, but NOTHING. Is! Size 12. Sometimes 10. Seems to be for me and I'm good with that. 272 was not A good life for me. -
Feeling kind of betrayed
Julie norton replied to elliekay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My take is Let him take them to work... that might sink in more.... and promise him something "special" for the next holiday. Easter? If there are no candies involved. He might remember that!! -
can you have seltzer water on pre op diet?
Julie norton replied to sally628's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Soda is a big factor in weight loss and gain. It wouldn't seem so with no calories. But it appears to be very addicting. (And lots of very heavy people drink much sugar free pop. ) It is a common post about wanting and giving it up on here... most docs seem to say no. Lots of patients really want it and post here about whether or not to give it up -
I am officially a veteran. today is my one year anniversary.
Julie norton replied to Wendyfm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You should be very happy about changing your life and your health. Big congrats. Don't stop!!! Maintenance requires some vigilance.... but all good things do! -
This can be the start of a different way of eating and drinking... most docs seem to say no to soda. It is a prominent issue in obesity And very addictive also apparently Check with your doc, and try a new way for awhile. It can change your life if you let it. And trying everyday seems to be a must. Best of luck

That is a fabulous feeling!!! Normalcy is underrated.... until you do not have it. We are lucky to have a second chance at a good life. Enjoy your slice of time with your daughter. (I am just about underwater here on the california coast!). Hoping for clearer skies.... in all ways.

Please be kind to yourself and try to remember why you wanted to change your life. No fills in your band does mean it is not working the right way yet. For most people. A few don't get fills. Most do. Until we get to a spot that works to eat less and be full, and get a bit more active. It is not easy. But it can be done, (Banded 12/06. Lost and kept off 90 lbs) I have to work on it. But it does work. Nothing is perfect. So I just start over. And so can you! Good luck and keep posting !

Bad Diet = Failure
Julie norton replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm reading that exercise can only be responsible for 20% of weight loss. That leaves 80% on the diet.... Sounds about right Banded 12/06 Happy to be at the right weight for 9 years Yes some days are hard No I'm not perfect, but I do get up and try again the next day -
Yes they did that with my tt. When the dr " pulls up" the skin from below the waist, it helps a lot! Also a bit of lipo in a few areas. A little scarring but no fold at all in my stomach area.... and tighter skin below.

Yes if possible. Yogurt and sugar free puddings when cleared by doc. They will taste heavenly. Some really like sfree popsicles early on. Good wishes

Post op ladies- what's your smallest dress size after reaching your goal weight?
Julie norton replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My take is it depends where you start from. If you are 400 lbs, 200 may be perfect. If you start at 210.... What size you can live at and maintain is my guess. I go between 10-12 and couldn't be happier! My highest was 272. Never again!! -
Now I get no info on people except when they joined. No birthday. Nothing???

Just a reminder
Julie norton replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There seem to be less and less of us veteran banders , but it is great to hear liz' inspirational story! She has done a great job helping others be "real" about this surgery. I have told her previously about what a great writer she is.... Truly a life change, not a diet! You were clear that you need less info from this site, but I think it is sometimes exciting to see others FINALLY see a different life... and it can last! That is the biggest difference to me.(oh yeah. It still is work!) but it works! Good luck sharpie on your surgery. It took me 8 years post op, but really enjoying having a flat stomach profile and also clothing change for size. Please keep us updated! Something new for us a bit more ahem... mature posters. -

Anyone tried stomach taping or bandaging?
Julie norton replied to Lala'sthinFtW's topic in The Gals' Room
Fabulous dress. Just relax on your big day and know how good 150 pounds lost looks on you! Use whatever is most comfortable! -
Although we all choose who our donations go to , it is worth considering it they help your community. I happen to donate to a give back thrift store( $250k back to community organizations thus far) and animal help resale. But I do not choose to donate to some religious charities that are anti GLBT.

I always thought you could not eat or drink before surgery because you could be sick under anesthesia. Operating on your stomach would seem to be a time when you would not want food to be in the operation

I see many young people having Wls. I'm not positive I could have the right outlook and patience that I do at this time in my life. My life is less busy also and the kids are grown. So it helps with keeping groceries healthy and me on track. How do other "mature" adults stay on track for years?
