    Inches Melting Away

I was sleeved Nov 8th 2011. So I'm about 2 months out. Since surgery I've lost 23 pounds. I feel that is slow loss, my Doc says its right on track. They expect me to lose 5 - 10 pounds a month. So I'm not discouraged, I'm in it for the long haul. Learning how to eat and lose as a lifestyle. I'll admitt I HATE excersise and hope I can lose weight without adding excersise. What I am excited about is the loss of inches. In those two months I'm down two pant sizes and that really feels good. I'm getting comments about my weight loss, which at times is a trigger to eat more, but i'm learning. I'll take the slow weight loss and the fast inches lost. Feeling good about the sleeve. I can eat what I want, or should I say I can eat what it wants. Sometimes I feel deprived from carbs, but I'm determined. Eating the protein first, then the veggies, theres typically no room for carbs so I'm good.
  3. My pre op diet was 3 meal replacment shakes and 1 regular Protein no carb meal. I did that for about 4 weeks.. then the last 2 weeks was liquid only. If you do liquid only for a long time.. you may feel really crappy during post op when your tummy can't take anything but liquid. Your having the "last meal" syndrome. I did that for a while.. I planned to eat everything in site till I got sick of it.. thinking I would not be able to eat this stuff again. Its hard to get control. If it were easy we would not be overweight. keep trying. Remind yourself this liquid only is temporary, you WILL be able to eat the good foods (not the bad foods) you ate in the past. Your life will be normal once you begin losing the weight.

Did Everyone Here Go On A Liquid Diet Before Surgery?

Ask your surgeon, but my understanding was how much overweight you were depends on how long the liquid diet was pre-surgery. I was more than 100 pounds over weight and had to do 2 weeks liquid prior to surgery. I had the 5 incision laporsopic(can't spell)

To Sleeve Or Not To Sleeve...

I echo JMarshall with all the reasons for chosing the sleeve over the lapband. The constant maintence of the lapband turned me off. I read where one person took three sticks to get the right spot to adjust the band. The thought of leaving that object in me for life, really turned me off. I will say.. yeah to those that lose a lot of weight fast. I'm two monts out and have only lost 25 pounds since surgery. But I've lost a lot of inches and am still really satisfied

Sick And Tired Of Being Sick And Tired

If your still feeling sluggish and tired, please talk to your DR. Have you started your vitimans? B-12 and calcium etc? Those are important to getting you back to health. I find the burping is more when I eat too fast. Slow down and chew, chew, chew. I'd also agree, getting in that protein from food sources will help as well. Needless to say, you must increase your protein intake As for the depression. Maybe you were expecting to lose a lot of weight really fast. I know I was and had some depression and frustration. However, even though I'm down 23 pounds in 2 months.. that's more than I've been able to do in the past so I'm happy. Its a marathon not a sprint. Concentrate on getting in the protein with foods you enjoy, meat, fish, eggs, yogurt, cheese. I drink kellogs Protein water.. It has 5g protein, but adds to the water consumption as well. Hang in there. Know you'll get better

    Support

Its not a secret, I'm proud of the decison I've made to get my weight and health under control. However,, there are some that see this surgery as the easy way out and will have negative comments. There are some that will say "you don't need that just excersise and cut back on your food intake" . its easy for others to give comments My suggestion is to only tell those that need to know.. Tell those that you will need support from while in the hospital and during the first 3 weeks of recovery. You can tell others as you move forward. It might be easier on some to know after its done.. then they can't try to talk you out of it, or worry about you during recovery. Good luck. I'm about 9 weeks out and feeling really good. I have zero regrets. However, be prepared for the first few weeks to be rough. I cried from the weakness and length of strengh I had even through week 3. Now I'm on vitamins, getting in the right amount of protien, leaving out the carbs, drinking the right amount of water and feeling good and satisfied.

    Food

I think I have a rock stomach.9 weeks out and I can eat anything. The only time I feel I might throw up is if I've eaten too fast or the food has too much oil in it. I also notice.. one of my favorite's is chicken. I must make it moist and it goes down good, if its a chicken breast and its dry.. wont go down well. The sleeve is really funny, But I'm sure you've read on this site.. If at first it doesnt work for you.. try again in a couple of days.

    I love Chipolte!

Hmm.. I used to eat Chipotle before the surgery.. My family loves it, but I have not been back becuase i always thought it was high in carbs and calories. I'll try to website and see how it works out. Maybe without the rice Chipotle can be back on the menu. Thanks gang!

    Cereal

I have not found a ceral low in carbs. Its critical to keep the carbs down. I tried to eat oatmeal and put unflavored Protein on after it was made.. at least that added more protein to the meal. But I've given up on the ceral. Try to break that old habit and switch to more high protein, lower in carb choices for Breakfast. See Eggface.com she's loaded with great breakfast mini muffins I find delious. Easy to make ahead of time and heat up as needed. I also like the greek yogarts for breakfast, higher in Proteins and lower in carbs then some other yogarts. Stay strong!!
  12. I too consider myself a slow loser. At surgery I was 303 now 8 weeks later I am 284, less than 20 pounds. My doc also said.. look at the average, its 2.5 a week. She is expecting to see 5 - 10 pounds a month.. So according to her I'm on track. Gotta remember its a journey not a short visit. This will take time to change habits and learn to love and use our tool correctly. Also don't be so hard on yourslef, you've lost 30 pounds.. something to be proud of. Also as I see it, you've only got 14 pounds to go to get under 200. Live your life. stay determined to reach your goal, but don't be stressed.

    Suggestions For "sleeve Friendly" Crackers?

salty crackers coulud be a trigger food, so be careful. Put the tuna on a slice of cucumber. Crackers get really liquidy when going down and may trigger you to eat more. they have carbs.. be careful
  14. I guess every plan is different, and it depends on the food stage your in. Im 7 weeks post op and my NUT focuses on protein, which she wants at least 60g and less than 30g carbs. 64oz water per day
  15. The fatigue for me was horrible. I was out of work for two weeks and could barely get out of bed. The fatigue and weakness bought me to tears. You will feel better shortly. I was told it was the combination of the liquid diet, low protein and the effects of anathesia (cant spell) in your system. Keep pushing, rest when necessary and work on getting in that protein and you'll feel much better soon. Know this will past!!
  16. I agree.. Talk about it ahead of time, it will give you a sense of comfort and you'll be more relaxed and he'll be prepared. its probably not as bad as you think it is.

    Please Help!

What you've done so far is amazing. We all fall short!! I too work in a place with mostly men and they love to bring in cakes, muffins and donuts. Luckily I can lock myself in my office and forget about it. I have not lost much yet so its easier for me to ignore that stuff cause I don't wanna derail. It must be harder to get back on track. Take a day at a time. Decide today I'm going to stick to my eating plan. Plan for a treat and look forward to that planned treat. When you eat a planned treat you don't feel like a failure and its easier to stay on track when you feel in control. Your human. stop beating yourself up. Hang in there!!

    I'm Always Hungry!

The foods you mentioned don't sound like a lot of protein. Be sure to eat your 3 meals a day and start with protein. Be sure to wait the 30 minutes after eating to allow the protein to last longer in your tummy, telling you its full and not hungry. The mushies go through pretty quickly, so its not sitting in the tummy long. Drink protein in between meals and the hungries should subside. I like the Special K Protein drink. Its only 5g of protein, but it gives the water a good taste and helps keep protein in me to keep away the hungries. Hang in there!!
  19. When starting the mushy foods eat SLOW. Take tiny bites. Chew, Chew, Chew. Have you tried scrambled eggs? Its not really good for you.. but I loved canned cornd beef hash at that stage. Also, try the tuna again in a day. the sleeve is a fickle beast. Hate something one day and love it the next.

Why Don't I See It Yet?

Interesting how all our bodies are so different. Since surgery I've lost 18 pounds.. but its been two months and I feel like I should be losing more. However. everyone says they see the loss in my face, and I've dropped a pant size.. and these new pants are fitting lose. So I see it in the measurements and not on the scale. Hang in there!! 25 pound loss is a GREAT loss

    Need Encouragement

ATeam.. I am in the same boat. Have lost 18 pounds since surgery almost 2 months. When I hear of some that have lost 50 pounds in 2 months. I realize we are all different. I was not a big eater to begin with.. I did eat Cookies, cakes and pies so its myfault I was at 330 when I started. I am a slow loser.. we should form a special group. I am taking the encourgement of others and hanging in there (really got no choice) Question, are we doing something wrong. should we eat more, or eat less? There are days when I just wont eat anything. When I do eat, I eat Protein first, then veggies. I've eaten a Hersery Kiss to ease the want for chocolate, but no cookies, cakes, pies, bread, Pasta etc. Only protein, veggies and fruit. I journal daily, calories between 500 - 700 a day. I guess I must up the excersise I know that's lacking. I've heard if you start excersising now and stop (as I'm sure I will.. I HATE TO EXCERSISE) the weight will come back. So I figure.. slow and steady wins the race. Hang in there I am!!

A Slow Loss Is Still A Loss ;)

I too am a slow loser. I was sleeved on 11/8/11 and to date have only lost 18 pounds. I have gone down one pant size. But I am determined and am in the process of making this a life change. Hang in there I'm confident our pounds will come off

4 Month Update! 97 Lbs Down!

Awesome!! Enjoy the new you!! True inspiration.. gives me hope.. cause mine is going down real slow Go Girl!!
  24. I was getting strange reactions to nothing to drink with meal. They would say " Really nothing " looking at me like I was crazy. They would ask me several times, as if I would change my mind. So I started asking for water and I would simply push it aside. I've been ordering appetizers as my meal and that doesn't seem to be a problem. Most servers want to make you happy to improve their tip, so know they don't mean any harm.. I agree, no need to explain about your surgery.. Simple, "I'm full" will do. Asking for the box after you've ordered the big meal should stop the discussion with the servers.

Talking Myself Out Of Surgery. Help.

In my humble opinion, if your having doubts.. WAIT!! This is not to be taken lightly. the sleeve will change your life from the time you enter the hospital until the day you die. This is a tool you'll need to work with forever. Yes.. in a few months you'll be a ble to eat the things you used to.. but never in the same quantities. Also no matter what others have experienced, your experience will be slightly different. Pray about it.. I pray you make the right decision for yourself and your family
