  1. I am trying to get back on track with eating right, and losing weight. I did great in the beginning, then got laid off and was out of work for a year. I managed to put back 20 of the 60 I had lost. Comfort eating. Some things (the things that are really bad for you) go down real easy. I am working now, have been for 7 months, but can't seem to get back on tract. I wake up every morning with good intentions. I don't want to do this yo-yo thing again, I've been doing it my entire life. Problems I encounter now are: not getting enough protien, night time eating (even though it recently has started causing acid reflux), miniature Reeses Peanut Butter cups. I have logged back in to get myself back on tract. Any great ideas would be greatly appreciated. I really want to lose this weight and get myself healthy.
  2. I'm scheduled May 8 (I have a Hawaiian vacation planned in between) for banding in Monterrey, Mexico. Can anyone tell me about their experience with Dr. Rumbaut?

    A thread for Single Bandsters

How silly I feel. I just realized that this site has more than one page. I was on the first page and wondered why it had sort of dropped. There are 65 more pages! How excited I was. I'm really jazzed. Had my first fill on Monday. Felt it right away, but by Wednesday, I don't feel any restriction. I hold myself to eating less, and am losing, and maybe that's what it is all about anyway. I never thought I would enjoy a carton of lemon yogurt so much as I did today for lunch. To go along with the book "He's just not that into you" is one called "Face it, you are just not that into him either". You know how it is that you always want what you can't have. When you really look at it, you really don't want it anyway. It opened my eyes to the habit of "settling for" which is something I have always done. No more. I'm not settling for a man who is not worthy of me, not settling for a weight that is not healthy for me, or settling for...... You fill in the blank. Off tomorrow to see my daughter in Sacramento (I'm in Portland). Can't wait for her to see her mom at 25 lbs less than last visit...and still losing.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

What happened to this thread. I just noticed it, and was excited. Being a single woman (53 yo and 14 years single) puts a different focus on things. No one to be supportive day in and day out at home (I've tried, but the dog just won't comment). lol Would love to see this one take off again.

What was your FAVORITE in Mushy stage?

Refried Beans with salsa.....mushed together until creamy. For an extra treat, add a teaspoon of lite sour cream or mashed avacado on top. Yummy! You can do the same thing with chili. Also very good.

    chest pain after fill?

Wow, I came to this site to see if anyone else experienced the left shoulder pain after a fill. I had my first yesterday (yippee). Also, no problem getting it, etc. but when I put anything in my stomach (even water) I get a little ache in my left shoulder. Its a little reminescent of the ache after surgery from the gas. Since I've had no restriction for a couple of weeks, it was almost a welcome ache since it reminded me to slow down, eat or drink slowly, and that the band is working. Now I see it is not uncommon. Thanks.

    Changing the way you eat

I read these postings and get great answers. Thanks to all. I am only 2 weeks post op, and get to start of mushies tomorrow. But some of the postings I read amaze me. Because I've always know that the way I eat (or ate) is what made me overweight. So, how could I think that I could continue to eat that way, even after lap band, and not stay overweight. I did not go through this to stay fat and unhealthy. I knew going in that there were some changes I would have to make. And I am willing to do that. But no "food" is bad, only the way I ate it. So instead of a huge Mexican dinner, I would choose an enchilade a la carte, and will be satisfied. I don't ever envision myself drinking a banana milkshake again. Maybe a sip of a friends, but never ordering one. And I am very OK with that. I've found in the last couple of weeks that when I am bored, and want to eat, a cup of herbal tea is great. never thought I would say that. Looking forward to the future. Donna

Two days out and feeling blue

Mine was done on the 10th as well, and I agree about the chest pain. Glad to hear I not the only one. I expected the shoulder, as I had that when I had my gallbladder done years ago. But not being able to breathe deep is hard. Other than that feeling great. Moving slowly but to be expected. Good luck, Rain.
  9. I need to find someone to do my fills when I return from Mexico. Because I am having the banding done out of my area, I would like to make sure that there is someone here who can follow my progress and do fills when I return. Any suggestions? give me real food help!!

I am very discouraged by the reactions I am getting from family and friends. I have been turned down by Kaiser, switched to Blue Cross at open enrollment only to find it is excluded by my policy, and was getting ready to pay out of pocket here in Portland. Then I came across Dr. Roberto Rumbaut of the Obsesity Surgery Center of Monterrey. After researching his practice and the hospital in Monterrey, Mexico where he practices, I opted to go forward. Some of my friends are thrilled for me, but my daughter and sister say I can't change, that it is too drastic, that it is Mexico for heaven sakes. I know I can do this. 12 years ago I made a dramatic lifestyle change when I admitted to be alcoholic and stopped drinking. Never looked back. Now I want to do something else for my health and well being. I would love some words of encouragement, as well as any comments from Dr. Rumbaut's patients. Thanks.
