Sleep Study? I didn't know I had a sleeping problem!
TheCascadian replied to jdarrwest's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They demanded a sleep study for me as well. It was just a hoop to jump through- they claimed I have "mild" apnea when I sleep on my back only (I never sleep on my back, of course). So I just ignored them and never went back. I sleep great and feel fine when I get up in the morning, nobody complains of me snoring and since I never lay flat on my back to sleep I'm not really too worried about it. I got the test done and had my surgery all the same. Nuff said. -

Pain Relief - Need some advice.
TheCascadian replied to davethesailor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I've survived and I no longer feel like roadkill. I woke up today and was able to rise from my bed without assistance. Took a shower, felt great and ended up going for a short shopping trip for needed supplies. I'm still sore in the incisions and can't bend very well, but my pain has dropped to a 2-3 while resting and 3-4 when bending/stretching my incisions. Can't wait to wake up tomorrow, I'll probably feel even better! LOL. -
Day two post-op- I woke up feeling like a human being again instead of roadkill... I was able to get out of bed without help and took a shower- ahhh... Was thirsty and able to drink a lot of Water and crystal light today, gonna make some broth for later. Pain in the incisions is pretty noticeable, but certainly manageable with the roxicet.

Post-op bruising ... oh my!
TheCascadian replied to H20Trude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I'm bruised pretty bad- but inside, not where you can see it. My whole belly is swollen and I can't sit up without help... I'm in quite a bit of pain, too, at one day out. Keep hitting the opiates and praying. The pain is fading- slowly... I hope the bruise is the worst thing you get! :welldoneclap: Good luck. -

TheCascadian replied to davethesailor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pain is very slightly fading as well... I'm down to a 5-6 when resting, 7-8 when getting up or down. Still hitting the Roxicet every couple of hours, though. This too shall pass, I suppose. This site is great for support and is really a mental relief to visit and read about others' similar problems. Thanks guys and keep it up! -

Dave, it's good to hear from you. I'm one day post-op myself and the pain is nigh-unbearable. I'm not sure if I'm just being a big baby or what, but I'm in so much pain I'm nauseaous! LOL. I would rate it at a steady throbbing 8 with getting up-down at a 9. I am incapable of rising from my bed without assistance. I cannot bend my stomach at all- it's too swollen. It this continues for more than 48 more hours, I'll have to go back to the hospital for help... But it does make me fell better knowing I'm not alone... Let's keep our chins up, hopefully we'll recover. The pain is really a surprise, after all, mostly I've read gas pain complaints... -
I'm home! Alive and well.. Pain was an issue, surprisingly. I had trouble getting meds that worked. Other than that, I'm doing okay! Definately feel a "pressure" around my stomach area, it's wierd.

Damn, it's tomorrow morning!!! YIKES. I've got some jitters... I don't like the idea of being repeatedly stabbed... ;D Well, wish me luck kids, I'll see ya on the other side!

+1,000, Wheetsin you hit the nail on the head, but I must proviso it: Men don't connect up OUR behaviours with YOUR emotional responses because we mostly don't have them (emotional responses). LOL. Not knowing the situation, but I'm guessing if the husband went on a diet and the wife brought home horrible Desserts and cheat foods the husband would figure the wife needed a snack and just continue on his diet. He wouldn't take it personally, or so I'm guessing. But maybe I'm a jerk, I dunno. My horrible pre-op liquid diet hasn't kept roommates and friends from ordering the worst kinds of foods and desserts around me- nor should it. I either have the strength to say "no" or I don't. Now if they shoved it under my nose and asked me to eat it with them? Then that's rude and different. If the hubby was NORMALLY a health-freak and now he's eating snickers and ice cream every meal, well, then that's probably a sabotage attempt. But it doesn't read that way. Just my .02 cents.

Help.. Three weeks after surgery
TheCascadian replied to emilymor's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ehh. At 3 weeks out, your stomach stitching is probably healed. I wouldn't freak out about it too much. Still, better to stick with doctor's orders. -
SGDodge, Thanks! You know, I always try to be a laughingstock wherever I go... err... wait a minute. Kyrethra, Thanks for your updates! I'm gettin' banded on the 28th, always good to hear some straight talk about what it's like. Everybody, Keep 'em coming!!! MY UPDATE: I am on day four of preop liquid diet. I have "cheated" (with permission from Doc) with an egg-drop Soup once, two dill pickles once and ground beef with spices once. These were Atkins Induction Phase foods, almost zero carbs; Doc told me he wants weight loss in the liver and that Atkins ultra-low-carb foods woudn't hurt so long as I kept it minimal. Despite the small amounts of solid proteins/veggies, my hunger level is worse than ever. Sheer willpower is all that is keeping me from annihilating an entire Chipotle's restaurant like some fat white godzilla. I'm so hungry (even after bowls and bowls of broth and a large Protein shake) that I feel queasy. Or maybe its just from too much liquid sloshing around? *sigh* Okay, the good part is I know I've lost weight already- pants were looser and the belt needed an extra hole to fit snugly... Shirts are looser as well. It will be interesting to see how much I'm down, low-carb diets tend to drop my weight A LOT... I've been trying to regulate it with really watered-down fruit juice, but it apparently isn't working too well. ;D

Has anyone else remarked yet on the irony of asking a morbidly obese patient to just go hungry on a liquid diet for ten days??? I'm like 10 hours into this and I'm already sick of it- literally! Yup, I've already got the "big D", but I'm figuring it's either the whey Protein shakes messing with me or it is just plain psychosomatic... :sick Doc actually said Atkins would be okay as a pre-op diet since his main concern is shrinking the liver, but told me to avoid eating as much as possible to maximize the liver shrinkage. So I have my "meat cheats" ready- with permission. I suppose I'll have to be on immodium to keep these sprints in check. *sigh* Thanks for reading my whimpers and whines... I know after a couple of days it'll get better and I won't be hungry. Just gotta burn up that glycogen in the bloodstream (accompanyed as this process is by extreme hunger, severe headaches and a mood that could best be described as APOCALYPTIC) first and then I'll hit ketosis and the ride will smooth out. :heh:

Congrats! Keep us updated.

Good luck, they usually don't forget what surgery they are gonna do!!! :welldoneclap: If you want, you could just write in blue marker on your belly what you specifically want them to do... LOL!
-
Yeah, this will be for my benefit, I know it. I've got a terrific variety of crystal light flavors available as well as beef and chicken herb broth... Gonna strain some egg drop Soup and give the remainder to my roommate one of these days... I'll survive. Did anyone else get "cheating" recommendations from their doc, though?
-
Bill, Good job! Ted, glad your doc could help you with your diet, that's good info for me, too! Man, I've only got one more big appointment before surgery! Gotta start my pre-op diet in 5 more days...

My First 'stuck' episode...now what?
TheCascadian replied to sherilynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jack, Glad you liked my description! Brewa, Nah, it's taking F O R E V E R . . . I'm getting excited to have surgery over and done with. I wanna be losing already. I know, I'm impatient. -
Definately, good luck to all of us! I had my psych eval today, psych doc said something to the effect of, "Well, your scores on this standardized test are better than mine! You seem very well adjusted and I think you'll do fine with the band." Hell yeah, I knew I wasn't crazy.

My First 'stuck' episode...now what?
TheCascadian replied to sherilynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cindy- Stands for "Productive Burping" or even "PBandster Barf". Okay, I made the second one up. LOL. When food (that you didn't chew well enough) can't make it through the stoma (or hole where your band is) then it comes back up. Usually people feel pain, a "golfball" or pressure in their chest and start "sliming" with mucusy throat goo coming up... Then they have a dainty little bandster puke-fest and feel better. Or something. I'm just repeating what I've read, not banded yet, so YMMV. -
Sounds like it may be too tight OR you aren't chewing well enough. But doctors are the best people to talk to for this sorta thing!
-
Damn, good for you! But about the pic looking the same- Even if it did, we'd lie to ya anyway! But I think after 10 SIZES, we'd definately see a difference in your pics! Keep up the good work!

One procedure I really want to have... (other than the band)
TheCascadian replied to kyethra's topic in The Lounge
TOM, that was a great vid. I got so excited watching that- I wanted a little rotary drill to whack away all that restriction and open up that sinus cavity for good! LOL. Man, when mine get plugged up and the pressure is going I sort of half-fantasize about drilling in into them with an electric drill... But I wouldn't want all that pressure in there to blow up my drill bit! LOL. -
Keep up the good work, my brothers! It's awesome to read your stories. I can't wait till I'm back in 46s again... LOL. I'm up around 50 right now.

Your welcome, anytime. Really, I'd call and double-check everything with the directly once you get your insurance cards. There are different plans and different types of BC/BS, so keep a lookout for differences. Good luck!
