About Me

  • Gender
    Female
After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes over 5 years ago I lost about 14 kilos, which was wonderful.
I was very motivated at first and used my treadmill every day but then had to care for my Mum until she passed away last June. During those 2 years I simply had no time to spend an hour or more on the treadmill and my weight not only crept back on but found I'd gained a few extra kilos too. I vowed to devote more time to myself but not long after Mum died my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and I had to put him first. Finally after him being told he's in remission I decided to speak to my Doctor about the problems I was experiencing with my chronic reflux. He referred me to see Chris Couch who after listening to my story suggested that I consider a lap band with my esophageal hiatus repair. He assured me that the lap band would eliminate my diabetes which is currently being controlled by Diabex.
I'm hoping that my lap band will not only help me lose weight but also aid me in quitting smoking and the horrible cycle of weight gain that I seem to go through with it. Although Dr Couch offered me a choice of the sleeve and the by-pass I decided that the lap band was what I wanted, not because it can be reversed but quite simply that I liked the whole lifesyle change. I love bread and do miss it but decided to give it up before I even decided on the surgery. So all the food I loved to eat is obviously bad for me and I've accepted that I can no longer eat these things after the lap band and I'm just hanging out for my surgery to take place in December and start seeing the old me again as there is a slim person inside this body.
