What is your "scale" strategy?
pink dahlia replied to LessOfMe0503's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I weigh myself every morning, but use the number as a guideline only. A number on the scale doesn't always know about fat, muscle, water intake, etc. If my weight has gone up a bit, I think back to what I ate the day before. If I see a need to cut back something, fine. But if not, then I assume my body is doing its balancing act around 143 lbs. Im okay with this weight, as my final goal was to about 140 lbs, happy and healthy. Mission Accomplished !!! -

Why is weight loss with a lap band so slow?
pink dahlia replied to Princess Peaches's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there ! Glad to see you're doing well post op ! Sorry, I don't have a better answer to your question, but I think a 1-2 lb loss a week is completely normal whether you're banded or just dieting. Im not sure why you think you would lose more than that a week. I didnt hit the green zone until my 4th fill, but I still lost some as I couldn't eat the the same quanity as befire , and had started walking, etc. I also have very little sagging skin, so I think the "slow and steady " weight loss helped alot, along with healthier eating, etc... . I hope all goes well for you, im very happy and healthy ! Thankyou Lapband !!! Good luck !! -
I don know, but maybe Google "Diabetic recipes, " or try "Paleo recipes ". Good luck !

We only had 1 older child living at home when I got banded, but we honestly didnt change our home eating habits because we had slowly changed them when my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. (inherited, he's tall, slim and doesn't like sweets. Im short, struggled with my weight after 30, and love sweets. Go figure. )Google diabetic recipes, its easy to find good tasting food, including desserts ! Good luck !

I Must Get this Off of My Chest
pink dahlia replied to butterfly40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, well, well , the BIG DAY is finally here !!! Dont forget a chapstick for when you wake up from surgery, and a big bottle of water ! l had the worst cottonmouth for the 1st day! It took a huge bottle of water, chapstick and sf popsicles to finally get my mouth back to normal . You'll need a pillow or 2 for the car ride home. I also needed help getting on and off the couch for the first 2 days, then slowly could do it by myself by the 3rd day. Walk alot, rest, lots of liquids . (And if your Dr. recommends chicken broth for after surgery, and it too salty, try just the broth from Campbells low sodium chicken soup, mmmmmm good ! ) Good luck ! Keep us posted ! I'll be thinking of you !!! -
Im coming in late to this, but sending big hugs and prayers to both of you !!! My mom had colon cancer years ago, she did very well after surgery. Im trying to remember what we had for her eat/ drink to gain weight and be healthy. I remember a Magic Bullet, protein powder to make drinks, and Mannatech products. (Google Mannatech.com for more info ) Thinking of you both !! Sending good katma your way !

Lapband and social life
pink dahlia replied to tinamarie81's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tinamarie, I forgot add something about eating /dating. Im not single, but if I was dating , and dinner plans came up I wouldnt say anything about WLS either. Tmi for a 1st date, etc. However, the few times someone's commented about a small appetizer ive orderd as my whole meal ( and sometimes I can't finish that !) I just casually tell them that I ve had some stomach issues , and that eating small amounts slowly every few hours is better for me. No one cares, we move on to other topics, and if a guy is really interested in you he's not going to care about your eating habits ! He's going to be wanting to talk and have a good time with a healthy, confident, attractive lady ! You !!!! Just sayin ' ! -
Hope you don't mind me asking, but what part of coffee drinking is so bad ? The coffee itself ? Or the milk / sweetner that goes in it ? The caffeine ? What and why is it bad ? Just curious, I dislike coffee ( sorry, but the smell nauseates me.....) but love regular hot tea in the morning, and a cup of decaf tea in the the P.M. , both with Splenda and a little milk. How is that or coffee so bad ?

Central Valley of what ? Since there's nothing in your request or profile about a state, or specific area, how about a little more info ? ( I live near a Central Valley.................Washington State, but I dont think thats what you're looking for......)

I say cut them some slack. Not everybody is good at everything, some people are good at math, but have poor writing skills. Another may remember historical facts very well, but struggle with spelling, punctuation, etc. On this board, a persons poor writing skills might be pretty obvious, but what you're not seeing are that persons other skills, important things like kindness, a giving heart, good manners, positive attitude and willingness to help others. Just sayin '.

Laguerr13, I loved your comment ! Hilarious and nice support too ! Tjstark, when your rude cousin asked "can you tell which one is pregnant ?" You should of shot back " yes, and I can also tell which one is an asshole ! " Oooops ! Did I say that ? Sorry you have such an idiotic, ignorant , rude relative, but its HIS problem, NOT yours. You just keep doing what you're doing, and tell others to mind their own business ! You got this !!

Lapband and social life
pink dahlia replied to tinamarie81's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, it's normal to ask alot of questions, nothing silly about it at all ! Good for you for making your health priority ! I dont know about anyone else, but my life changed 100% for the better after Lapband. No more sleep apnea, digestive issues, or being tired and out of shape 24/7. I feel strong and healthy, like what I see in the mirror, and feel much more comfortable socially. As far as eating goes ? It depends. I exercise 3-4x a week, try to follow the rules , and try to drink lots of water. Its not hard to eat with a lapband, its "different." Not bad, different because you have to choose your food more carefully, chew well, eat slower , and pay attention and think about what and how how you're eating. My personal mantra ?, Having a lapband is an inconvenience 5% of my day, but being obese was 100 % of my day." Lapband = best decision ever !!! Very happy ! Good luck !! -
Wow! Great story ! And the picture tells it all, you look so healthy and proud of yourself ! And you should be ! You may have had banded, but you're the one getting yourself to the gym and working hard , so congratulations ! ( P.S., I would of jumped off of that cliff too ! What fun !!)

Typical day 7 weeks post
pink dahlia replied to irishgirl520's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me 4 fills to get to the green zone, but I had still lost weight steadily. Since I could'nt eat large amounts after being banded, (but was still no where near the green zone)by just sticking to mostly protein, fruits and veggies and exercising, I was still living healthier than I was pre band. I lost 1/2 lb to 1.5 lbs weekly, but I realize thats not normal for everybody. Your body will get there eventually, just follow the Dr.s rules. Good luck !! -
Cheri j, since you are both Dinks ( dual income , no kids ) and hubby says you cant afford it, and you can, why not compromise ? Hire a housekeeper for 8 weeks, and see how it goes . According to the above info, it would take awhile for him /her to get used to the house etc, but who knows ? Your hubby might be happy and continue , or you both might decide to stop it all together. Anyway, try 8 weeks ! Good luck !! (P.S, I get you on the Dinks and golf, my hubby just introduced me to golf 2 weeks ago, now im addicted ! So much for a "cheap hobby " ! Ha ! I tried it once 10 years ago, didn't like it, but was much heavier. Now ?I love it, walked the 18 holes on my 1st try 2 weeks ago. Im 80 lbs lighter, found it muuuuccchhhh easier . Coincidence ?I think not. )

Comments from others that mess with your head
pink dahlia replied to stacyg1's topic in Rants & Raves
She's a thoughtless, rude person who doesnt stop and think before she opens her mouth. That is all. -
I'm not sure how long you're on liquids post op, I think mine was 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks mushies, then try new foods slowly. I will say during the liquid phase I remember I just had to have 1 bite of something ! Anything ! (So i had a small spoonful of tuna with mayo and slowly ate it. Heaven ! ) I know it's hard but try to stick to liquids, remember its only temporary, not forever. Same with the mushie phase. I understand depression ( been there, done that ) but please try not to feel depressed because of all this, your body has been through a big shock recently, so make sure your liquids / mushies are as healthy and tasty as possible and remember water and when allowed, exercise !! All of these made a huge difference in my quick and easy recovery, and since the weight started falling off too, it just made everything better ! So hang in there ! You can do this ! Good luck !!!

Welcome !

Weeeeellll, just as I posted my last reply, I saw that your update had just come in. To paraphrase Bariatic Pal Chrystee , " A day late and a dollar short , I am !! Still sending you hugs !!
-
1. Im sending you big Washington hugs . 2. Both of you are going through a major shock, with feelings of sadness, guilt , bewilderment, and confusion to name a few. Add in grief and loss and it's just hard to breath some days, let alone come up with answers. Even if you 2 stay married, you and your wife are going to end up in a different place with a different marriage than you originally planned on, a therapist can help you through the rough parts and help you work out your differences no matter what you 2 decide to do concerning your relationship. 3. You have a child, and a special needs child brings extra stress to any relationship. It just does, nobody's fault, but counseling can help you both be the best parent you can be during this challenging time. Although I never went through what you're going through, 20 some years ago I went through a very deep loss that took me down a long , dark road of grief. It took awhile, and I still deal with it, but eventually I found the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope things go well for you and your family. Sending you hugs again ! time.
