How Supportive Have Your Doctors Been?
pink dahlia replied to Bjc1227's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Past experience has told me that just because a Dr. had M.D. after his/her name doesnt make them know everything, it means just means they are a Medical Doctor. Go with a Dr that will support you and your decisions asbout YOUR body, because its your life and health that you have to live with. Good luck ! -
you'rev awesome ! keep up the good work because you look amaaaaaazing !!!!

I keep prepared snacks around so if i make a poor choice i have something ready to go the next time im tempted. Baby carrots, raw nuts , apple slices and veggie chips are some favorites. Also sourdough toast crisps with skinny cow cheese really can hit the spot ! Good luck !

Woot Woot Crossed Legs
pink dahlia replied to lassie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yes it is groundbreaking news !!!!!! congratulations !( Did you reaaaallllly think it was the chair itself ? Hilarious !!!)Thats a great NSV ! Wait until you can paint your own toenails finally . Thats fun too !! Congrats ! -
I will support you in whatever you decide is best for you, so here goes. 1. Hate to break the news to you, but at 5'2, 195 lbs, yes you are "morbidly obese !" 2. You should'nt feel any guilt for taking a step (lap band) in the right direction, you're just not taking the more common step (diet and exercise). 3. Lapband is no more a "cop out" for weight loss than insulin is for diabetes. Both are made to fix a medical problem that your body cant fix by itself. And 4. after watching my late mother in law NOT take charge of her diabetes, she passed away 2 yrs ago after a long and difficult battle that could of been avoided had she managed it well. Watching the family deal with her passing has not been easy, so i encourage you to deal with your health and diabetes while you still can. I have no diabetes in my family , but we're on intimate terms with cancer. One reason i had lap band was to lessen my chances of getting cancer, and should i get it anyway(a high probability) i want to be strong and healthy enough to fight it off. ( My Dr. agrees) So, go. get. banded. already.good luck !

well you're being banded on my birthday, so im sending you lots of luck ! I did my research too and feel the same way you did, slow but sure weight loss, non invasive, and follow the rules 95 % of the time. The results ?? i was banded Dec 13th, 2011, and as of today ive lost 45 lbs, and hope to hit 50 lbs by my bday. I have a 7th fill coming up next week, i try to make good food choices, and i exercise 3x a week. So yes, im thrilled with my weight loss and would do it again in a heartbeat.!!! Daily life just gets better and better, i ve gone from a heavy 225 lbs, size 18-1x to a slim size 14, i get compliments almost daily, i feel great knowing that im going to continue to succeed and reach my goal of 140 ! SO GO FOR IT !!! GOOD LUCK !!!

waitingpatiently- you're awesome ! i would love to see a recent pic of you ! You must feel bootyful !!!! I cant wait until i can get in a size 10 ! as for my best nsv 's ? I have a couple...............being able to paint my own toenails, sliding on a size 14 skinny jean and a female coworker (also banded) telling me "your ass looks amazing ! " ( hilarious laughter included !), A co worker of my hubbys telling my hubby 3 months after i was banded" your wife didnt need wls, she looks great !", and my all time favorite............ a younger than me, cute long time male customer who commented on my weight loss and added "girl , you are smokin !!!!" It has been a looooooooooong time since anyone thought of me as "smokin !" I could of cried. Instead i just said Thank you ! (and blessed him !)

white breads( and white rice and white pasta )have a tendency to stick on me, but seem fine if they're toasted and chewed well. sourdough is fine mmmmmmm ! Brown wheat bread goes down much easier as does whole wheat pasta and brown rice. (Less stuff that gets gummy). You may have to experiment and chew really well to see what you can eat. After a fill you can have unexpected changes too.

ctinch, you're awesome ! Congratulations and way to go ! -
im struggling to keep my cals at 1400 per day ( on myfitnesspal.com) so for me i like those yummy Kashi bars, nuts , fruit, baby carrots, Oberto's turkey jerky, hb eggs, and my downfall is wheat thins with peanut butter. mmmmmmmmmm. I like anything crunchy /sweet. .
-
i have some yes and no's when it comes to bread, pasta, and rice. Toasted bread is fine ,especially wheat breads, i do fine with sourdough and a thin slice of well chewed white bread, and a bite or 2 of a doughnut. Brown breads, brown rice and whole wheat pasta are fine, (and yummy !) but i might have problems with anything white because it has a tendency to gum up more than whole wheat products. You may have to experiment to see what works for you, and what you can and cant eat can change after a fill. ( No more raw broccoli after my 6th fill, sigh............... I miss it.) Good luck !

i find that the more protein i eat , the less i crave sweets. And i have a serious sweet tooth ! when i do need something sweet im just as happy with a low cal/low fat item. Skinny Cow or Weight Watchers ice cream is the best, or a piece or 2 of Weight watchers candy . Good luck !

Omg Help Me 7/9 Banders
pink dahlia replied to msnesha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you will still be hungry until you start getting fills and get restriction. try to eat as healthy as possible, you need to follow your Drs rules for a reason. It gives your band time to heal . Theres plenty of time later for those foods , so dont give in now ! You can do it ! -
Nasty Ex-Coworker Still Spilling The Beans About My Wls!!!
pink dahlia commented on sexymomma001's blog entry in sexymomma001's Blog
( sorry, i hit the send button) If you handle it this way , your supervisors will listen to your important words. If you go in yelling, bitching, or acting a drama queen thats all your supervisors will see, and will probably just blow you off to shut you up. (Nothing will get solved to YOUR satisfaction, and you'll just come across as whiny and unprofessional ) Good luck !! -

i think you have every right to be upset ! Who is she to be spreading around your personal medical info ? I would definetly stay on this, document EVERYTHING ! Every conversation you had with the floaters. time , date , place , witnesses . etc. You may need this info because if she talked about YOU, shes talked about OTHERS too. She has crossed some serious lines and i think she should be held accountable. But , HOW you handle this is going be the difference.Be professional, polite but firm, and stand your ground -
ok, I'll bite. What is a chocolate melting cake ? Sounds great !!!

Trying Not To Beat Myself Up Too Bad...
pink dahlia replied to Nyt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hang in there, you've got alot of support here !!! You act like you've done something horrible by eating a sandwich or 2. Not so, you're only human and everybodys probably cheated some too. Quit worrying about what other people think or dont think of you. They're too busy working out to worry about you for more than a second anyway. I take a swim class 3x weekly with people of all shapes and sizes , small to quite large. Who cares ?? Some sort of exercise will get your endorphins going, and as you lose weight you'll feel like exercising more because your clothes will start falling off and you'll be loosing weight. Isnt that why you got banded in the first place ? It DOES work if you follow the Drs rules 95% of the time. ( Make good food choices, take small bites and chew well, exercise 3x minium a week, get fills as needed. ) Good luck ! -
Excellent ! What are your diet and exercise secrets ? WAY TO GO !!!!
-
i do a water fitness class 3x a week, and try to walk once a week. i did try a spinning class recently , it wasnt too bad ! The water fitness classes have been a huge reason im losing weight and inches. Banded last December, down 45 lbs and down from a size 18 to a 14. good luck !

2Nd Fill Today And Feeling Discouraged
pink dahlia replied to Tricia39's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Y ou made a lifetime commitment when you got banded, so dont give up so easily ! Its waaaaaay too early to get discouraged by a small setback. this is a looooong journey with some detours along the way. Try different kinds of protein to see what you like, it will keep you much fuller. Try a tiny bite of steak, chicken and pork (thin, not thick ) fish, beans, low cal peanut butter , chili etc. Ask you Dr for ideas . Try different kinds of exercise to see what you can stick with, even if its daily walking. Something is better than nothing , and soon you'll see good results ! Good luck ! -
i have no trouble with pasta, as we only eat whole wheat ( Husbands diabetic ), whole wheat pasta is less likely to get stuck but i havent had regular pasta in years. same with 3-4 bites of potato. a little regular bread is fine but after 3-4 bites im stuck. Broccoli became a no no after my 6th fill, but was fine before. It can vary depending on your fill, time of day etc. Steak was fine last night, but got stuck today at lunch. Sigh..................
