I am not as successful so far as I would like to be-emotional component
pink dahlia replied to Gardnergirl2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Whew!!!!! No pity parties from lisacaron, thats for sure ! She sure opened up a can of a whoop a!! on your Dr , did'nt she ? You go girl !!! That Dr works for YOU, not the other way around , so go see him if needed. This is a TEAM effort to get YOU healthy, so use the TEAM to get you to your goal. That being said, one of my favorite sayings is from the late, great Steve Prefontaine ( google him for an interesting story) who said " Dont be afraid to give up the good and go for the great !" Maybe your past friendship applies ? I think if something good didnt work out, its because something great is coming around soon. Food for thought ? Speaking of food, I liken it to a baby sucking her thumb. When the baby is sad, scared, stressed, she sticks her thumb in her mouth to comfort her, right ? Well as adults we can't walk around sucking our thumb when were sad, scared or stressed, so we stick food in our mouths to comfort us. Try finding a hobby , or interest when you're upset that calms you down, thats NOT food related. Music, knitting, walking , dancing, etc............. good luck, hang in there !!!! -

Great question !!! Although I still have 20 lbs to go ,( that I have been trying to get off for a year now ! ! ), I feel i have been very successful as im back to the old ME !!!!!!! Not a specific # on the scale, but ME as a person !!!!! Yes, I look much better on the outside, but I also feel much better on the inside. Happy and healthy from the inside out ! Yesterday, my size 10 healthy , getting stronger every day body ran a 1.5 mile trail without stopping (slow, but I ran it !!), that made me feel very good, something no food could ever do for me. " I was a slender kid and young adult who used to love to run, sooooo ooo, for me , yeah, Im "successful."!!!!!

Don't know if this is normal?
pink dahlia replied to Irishflower79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, you ate too fast and took too big of bites, but why does that make YOU a "failure" ??? We all make mistakes, and learn from them, but that does' nt make anyone , especially you , a failure. Give yourself some credit ! And a big pat on the back for getting banded so you can lead a healthier life ! Start fresh tomorrow, get back in the horse, try try again................. you get the picture.................. good luck ! -

Before I was banded I went to a local support group, ( Fall 2011) they all told me " The only thing I regret is not getting banded sooner !!" Well, 2.4 years later, I say the exact same words. Life is 100 % better, every.single.day. NO REGRETS ! NOT ONE !!! No more sleep apnea or digestive problems, look and feel good, lots more energy, cute size 10 clothes , I run and swim, and life is GOOD!!

Giving Up your favorite foods
pink dahlia replied to TatorTot's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Tater tot, if this is any help, I have a little bit of chocolate every day, pizza maybe once a month , if that ( 1 small slice ), on very rare occasions a bite or 2 of chips, steak once a week. You will find that most people have trouble with certain TEXTURES, not the food itself, so you just find a substitute or brand with a different texture. As for the things I cant get down in any form ,, like raw broccoli, I just substitute celery and move on . You will too. The 5 % negative of being banded is NOTHING compared to the 95% positive of being banded. I'll take skinny jeans over pizza any day of the week ! How bout you ? -
Everyone is different, but I found that the less I ate carbs and crisps ( potato chips in the US) , the less I craved them. Now I might have a bite or 2 of bread once a week, before being banded it was several times a week or more. Still working on eating less sweets, its a work in progress. Yes you have to make changes with WLS, but the changes ive made are only negative 5% of my day. ( small bites, chew well, protein first, etc) The rest is 95% positive !!!!!! No more digestive problems, no more sleep apnea, cute clothes fit well, lots more energy, look and feel 100% better, etc etc..........good luck to you !

How do you feel about eating out after weight loss surgery?
pink dahlia replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
We eat out 1-2x a month, as my hubbys diabetic and we prefer healthy cooking at home. On the rare occasions we do go out Ill order a regular small meal, eat a little bit and take the rest home for several meals. My favorite ? Red Lobster coconut shrimp with those cheddar biscuts ! !!!!! Im drooooooling.............. -
I have the exact same problem as you do. Ive been stuck at 160 lbs for over a year, and although id like to get to 140, I think im "done " too. My Dr. doesnt agree, he says " just exercise little more and cut back some calories" . But I log my food on MFP almost every day,( 1200-1400 calories) and swim 3x aweek and run 2 miles 1-2 x a week, so im not sure what else to do . Anyone have any advice ?? Anyone??

Didn't plan this day too well
pink dahlia replied to JustWatchMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honey, you need to give yourself a hug and a pat on the back, in that order ! The hug because you've had a long , difficult emotional day, and a pat on the back from learning from your mistake of not eating/drinking when you should have. We ALL make mistakes, and you'll make alot more, the point is you learned what NOT to do. Good for you, you'll do better tommorrow ! Also, you'll learn what a portion is, and what type of exercise you enjoy, and to stop using the scale as your only means of success. Tommorow will be better !!!! Good luck ! -
Congrats!!!!!!! Way to go !!!!! Pictures ? Im still trying to get the last 20 lbs off, the same 20 lbs that ive been stuck with for over a year, so its nice to hear inpiring stories like yours. Great nsv !!!!!

Can Someone Help me with My Weight Ticker
pink dahlia replied to Mikee57's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi mikee, I read your profile, you and I are very close in age and height. Im almost 56 and im 5' 3, and 160 lbs. As I calmly explained to my lap band surgeon 2 weeks ago during a 6 mo checkup," I think im done losing weight as ive been at this weight for a year now. I would love to get to 140 lbs, but im 55, had a child and at the end of menopause, so im not expecting to have my teenage body back, because things have changed !" He calmly looked at me and said " You can do this if you really want to, just cut back a few more calories and exersize a bit more! " I love him to death, but seriously ? Did you not hear my reasons ? Anyhooooooo.......... I think you have to listen to your Dr, but just as important, listen to YOUR body ! You' ll know when your weight is "right"! -
How do you cope with tragedy?
pink dahlia replied to sleepingarby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there, hope you' re doing ok, im sorry you have to be going through some tough times, expected or not. You cant control the things that happen , you can only control how you handle them. Staying strong and healthy by eating right and exercising will do more for you than eating junk and couch surfing. Both my parents passed in the summer of 2012, dad s was expected ( cancer) in June, mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer 3 weeks after his funeral and passed in August. Definatly not expected........... but going forward was the only option, so staying healthy and strong was a no brainer for me. Also , we could compare stories on " my youngest child making EPIC stupid decisions !!!!! " however, in the interest of privacy, and ..... " Hon, this is a family show !!" I will keep it on the down low........... ahem....... I wish you well, stay strong !!!!!! -
Today, first thing am hot tea with spoonful of sugar and a splash of milk, 8am turkey jerky and a small amount of raw nuts, 10 am Belvita breakfast biscuts ( 4 pack) and a small cup of Swiss Miss, afternoon 1 small slice white pizza ( chicken, white sauce , spinach, pine nuts) , dinner a little chicken , couple bites cheese, later my very rare small chai tea from the coffee shop. ( I try to eat a bite or 2 of fruit or salad some days with protein of fish, chicken , elk , moose , or pork for dinner ) Most days have a cookie or 2 also.
