Surgery 6/20/2014 - Tomorrow is the first day of my new life
pink dahlia replied to Zoco's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like you, I crave sweets. I could care less about soda pop, alcohol, fried foods etc. I only occasionlly have a few bites of fast food. But sweets ? Oh yeah, they've got my number, especially if its crunchy sweet. Anything chocolate/pb/nuts = kryptonite ! I find that if im full of healthy protein, I crave sweets way less. Right now im having Belvita Breakfast biscuts and a little turkey jerky, this is my usual breakfast, helps keep me from most sweets. Hope your 2 week liquid goes smoothly for you, you CAN and WILL succeed with your WLS ! Being banded was the BEST thing I did for myself, I just came back from a 2 mile run a few minutes ago . Two and a half years ago I could only walk the same course, now im ( sloooowly) running it ! How cool is that ? Good luck ! You got this !!!! -
Honey, if I were you id get myself to my Dr. !! Anytime you're not eating and exercising and you still lose 5 lbs AND you're losing hair, thats a sign of something that your Dr . needs to know about. Everyones body is different, but losing hair is not normal if you are eating right. Hope all goes well !

As someone said on another post " Oh boy ! Dinner AND a show !!!" .............. geesh ! Anyhoo, heres a recipe we like................ my hubby is diabetic , as was his late mother. Here is her recipe for Spaghetti Sauce, which we serve over whole wheat noodles, with a salad. (use low salt items if possible ) 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 can tomato sauce, use the empty can , add 1/2 can ketchup, 1 can salsa, no salt seasoning and italian seasoning, (use a little of each and taste test before adding more, I find italian seasoning very salty ) a dash of pepper or 2. Mix in cooked hamburger and simmer for 1/2 hour. ( We use turkey burger or elk burger) Enjoy! P.S. no need to put my name on the recipe if you ever do a cookbook, im happy to share recipes.( Im getting to be a better cook since I get alot of my ideas from Pinterest.)

What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
pink dahlia replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was never a big soda drinker, id have a diet coke if we went out to eat, but i started even cutting that back a bit and it got to where I dont miss that little bit at all. Just try cutting back a little every week or two. After awhile, you wont miss it. As far as a food I miss ? Occasionally I'll think of a General Tso's chicken from our local deli that I loved, and raw broccoli, because it was one of the few veggies i did like, and I made a killer broccoli salad. !! So good id even have it for breakfast. Now, broccoli= very bad stuck ! Oh, well ! I dont miss the sleep apnea, stomach probs, or size 18 clothes or being tired all the time. I'll take that over broccoli anytime ! -
Discouraged and asking for help...
pink dahlia replied to Dana Borquez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You also might want to see a Nutritionist to help you with " poor food choices and self control". They might have advice to help you get back on track, and show you a better way to control your food demons. You have no where to go but up and watch the scale go down ! Good luck ! -
Quit worrying over a number on the scale. Pat yourself on the back if you're following your Drs orders . Once you make big changes to your food supply ( WLS), your body can be quite surprised and not lose any weight for a bit because its not sure if it should hold onto the fat " in case im being starved and I might need this fat! " Thats your bodys natural reaction " survival mode". Once your body figures out that its not starving , but is being fed well ( protein, fruits, veggies etc), and exercised, the scale will move again. Good luck !

Opinions Wanted-Went to Informational Meeting
pink dahlia replied to Tyger'sMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amen to the above posts ! I was on Weight Watchers for 1 year, lost 12 whole lbs. Thats it. No more. Lap band is work, but not horribly hard work. It restricts my appetite, but I still have to choose good foods, eat slow , chew well, and exercise min. 3x a week. Lap band was an incredible gift to me, as I couldnt lose the weight on my own. Im very grateful, it helped me lose 65 lbs, and im very healthy and happy. -

What will you (or did you) most look forward to in your life after WLS?
pink dahlia replied to patrice1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yoooo hoooooo , Betty !!!!!! Guess what ? In a short time you're still going to be crying on the way to work because nothing fits, but its going to be because everythings TOO BIG ! Bags and bags of stuff went to Goodwill, now THAT was fun !!! -
How/Why did you choose Lap Band?
pink dahlia replied to josiek1988's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went with lap band after 2 relatives did well on it. I researched it very well, knew what I was getting into, and liked it because it the least invasive and reversible. Once you have your insides removed theres no going back, so I didnt even consider other weight loss options, no way, no how ! I followed my Drs rules 95 % of the time, and have lost 65 of the 85 lbs I need lose. I am VERY happy and healthy ! An aquaintance who had gastric bypass talks about nothing else except what she cant eat, what problems shes having, wls problems she cant deal with, yada yada yada. Nonstop. Me ? No problems. Good luck ! -
What will you (or did you) most look forward to in your life after WLS?
pink dahlia replied to patrice1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I read the above posts , and to those who are having their surgery soon, just hang in there ! - All I did was follow my Drs rules 95% of the time, and the weight started falling off ! I averaged 1 - 1.5 lbs a week, sometimes less, but I kept a daily log of food and weight and I could see a pattern at the end of every month. I dont live and die by the scale, I just use it as a guideline to help me make good daily choices. When your clothes start getting baggy, because you're exercising and eating better, you' ll be sooooo glad you did this ! ( Honey, I have to go shopping at Goodwill for smaller clothes again ! ) Good luck ! ♡♡♡♡♡! -
What will you (or did you) most look forward to in your life after WLS?
pink dahlia replied to patrice1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Great question !!! I was banded Dec, 2011, weighed 225 lbs with a goal of 140 or so. I mostly wanted to get back to the old " me." Healthy, happy, and normal weight was what I wanted. I wanted to wear attactive , regular feminine clothes that looked good on me. I wanted to like what i saw in the mirror, and have others like what they saw too. I wanted to be a runner, even a slow one. I wanted to get rid of my digestive problems and the C-pap machine for sleep apnea, be able to walk, run , move without being tired or sore. Other then still working on the last 20 lbs, ive achieved those goals. Im happy, proud, grateful and blessed. Although I still struggle daily to watch my sweet tooth, nothing , and I mean NOTHING, taste as good as feeling good from the inside out does. I wish the same blessings on you . -
I am able to eat 90 % of foods, a few things I cant eat at all, like raw broccoli, chicken breast, medium thick pork chops. (Too thick or fiberous ) Some foods I can only eat a few bites like eggs, pasta, some breads, white rice. Im fine with steak, chicken thighs or wings, pork loin, fish, bacon, hamburger or turkey burger. . Also fine with cheese, fruits, salads , most everything else. My best advice is to try easy foods at work ( soups, yogurt etc) , and try out other foods at home in case you get stuck and the food has to come up. ( ( Im refering to a very baaaaaad broccoli incident at work, not pretty) ! Good luck !

One Year Bandiversary!142+lbs Gone!
pink dahlia replied to enjoythetime's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow ! If you had'nt told me the 2 pics were both of you, I never would of believed it ! Totally different ! Congrats on a job well done ! -
Wowsers ! Im not sure what to start with ! Well, for starters, welcome to the other side ! I was banded Dec, 2011 and have had nothing but positive results. The band literaly gave me back my old life of being healthy, happy and close to a normal weight. You might want to see a Nutritionish ASAP ! He/she will help you deal with your emotional eating. As far as liquids, try different flavors, brands etc to see what appeals to you and makes you happy and full. (I admit I cheated once on the liquid phase too, a small spoonful of tuna with mayo. Yum!)

Ms. Indy Bee, you're going to make yourself sick if you keep worring over a half sandwich and a little pepsi. Just saying. You've lost 15 lbs before surgery, which is in itself amazing. Great job ! Your Dr. should be very happy. Hope all goes well tommorrow, mine was fast and easy, with minimal pain, hope yours is the same ! Let us know how it goes, good luck ! -
Well, you're just fabulous wrapped up in awesome , now are'nt you ! Congratulations on your first NSV !!! Keep it up !

Negative/jealous friend?
pink dahlia replied to TimeforTanya's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sorry to say this, but you've already answered the questions yourself. Your friend uses you and food as her crutch, but as soon as she feels her crutch is going to be taken away, she feels all wobbley, and lashes out. Unfair , but true. Since you are both overweight and have food as your entertainment, she's worried that her happy part of her life is going to change drasticaly, and not for the better. Her treatment of YOU, says volumes about HER !!! ! Not to mention her sad excuses for not losing weight herself. If she had no weight problem I might understand why she thought you could lose by diet and exercise ( as if none of us tried that, yeah right !!)!!!, You need to get healthy for YOU, not her. Yes your friendship will change , but whether it changes for the better or not will be up to her. I wish you well ! -
I am 53 and lapbanded on 9/20/12.
pink dahlia replied to Annette Corrado's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
MFP standss for " My Fitness Pal " , you set up an account and put in your daily exercise and food, etc. Free ! It calculates all the info from your food, calories , fat, protein , etc. Google it for more info. I find it very helpful to keep track of whether im eating right and exercising. Good luck !
