    Lapband v Sleeve

I would think your surgeon would know more about WLS than a psych Dr. would. Just sayin'. I love my lap band, it was easy to follow the Drs rules, I made good healthy choices most of the time, and the weight fell right off . Best decision ever !

    Why is food ALWAYS involved?!

For your birthday party, how about healthy turkey burgers ( with or without a bun ), sweet potatoes fries , ( homemade or storebought ), zucchini brownies or look up a diabetic or low fat cake recipe ! Dont forget the fresh fruit and raw veggies ! Happy Birthday !

    Considering lap band surgery...

Vicious Vixen, Uh oh ! Here comes the Tough Love Train ! It's very sweet that your hubby does'nt think that you're " that big," , but im 5'3, WAS 225 lbs, and that was considered " morbidly obese ." I say this with respect, but your profile shows you at 5'4 and 260 lbs. .......................um, theres' s a reason the word MORBID is in there, its because that kind of weight is DEADLY. You can either pay for the problem now while you're young, or wait until your body falls apart bit by bit, and then really pay for it ! If our Insurance had'nt paid for my band, I would of financed it some other way, or with Care Credit, etc. No matter what you choose, I will still be rooting for you ! Good luck !

Congrats ! And hey, does' nt everybody try on clothes and happy dance at 3: 30 in the morning ? (wink wink ) Theres no time frame for that , so go for it ! You deserve it ! Way to go !!! Is' nt that just the coolest feeling in the world when you try on pants and they finally slide comfortably over your tush ? Gets me every time !!!

    Lap band today!

Congrats to all the above newbies !!!! Yay !! You did it ! It will get easier, just give it time , pain wise. Im the biggest baby when it comes to pain, but I did'nt even have to take the pain meds after the 2nd day as long as I walked and used the heating pad , etc. As far as that very unprofessional womans comment ? I would report her, NOW. Totally uncalled for, rude and unprofessional and she had NO business saying that to you. Obviously, most of us on this forum are successful, so what the hells her problem ? ( Sorry, it just ticked me off !) The best to all of you !

    Failing miserably at post-op diet

Yes, I cheated.........once. With a small spoonful of tuna mixed with a little mayo, cause I had to have something in my stomach besides liquids. NOT french fries or candy.......... you did'nt come all this way to mess it up with crappy food. Get back on the healthy wagon NOW, and you wont regret it in the future ! You CAN do this !!! Good luck !!
  9. I thank God every day for the lap band, I know i would be heavier and more misreable than I was. If i had been able to lose weight on Weight Watchers I would have skipped the lap band, but 12 lbs lost on a year of WW was' nt cutting it, so 2.5 years ago, the band was a last resort, and im VERY happy about it ! Just this morning I had a follow up visit with my surgeon, he told me I have done everything right as far as following his directions, and he was very pleased, as am I !!!! Im healthy and happy , and getting stronger every day ! Thank you Lap Band ! !!!
  10. Im 2.5 years out from being banded, so ive met many of my goals already, shopping for small sizes in any store, being able to paint my own toes , ( no big tummy in the way !) , running, etc. One new thing is air travel ! The last time I flew was 3 yrs ago, 225 lbs, heavy and uncomfortable to Austin , TX. Now im flying in August to Cooperstown N.Y. , will be excited to see how much easier flying is ! Cant wait !
  11. It does' nt have to be expensive, I buy 90% of my clothes Goodwill. I went from a size 18 to a 10, and im very picky about my clothes. I always get nice compliments on my outfits. Remember, because women change sizes so often , there's lots to choose from. Also, women generaly take better care of their clothes , so they stay nice looking longer. They usually are'nt as "rough" on their clothes as men and kids.

    Questions about all this

It was me that said no broccoli because I cant get the stuff down, even with tiny well chewed bites ! It gets horribly stuck, and its not pretty ! Instead I sub celery or something else, but I have no problem with steak or pineapple. To each their own .

    Questions about all this

Sorry, operator error ! Anyhoo , protein, fruits , veggies, 3 bites of carbs, ( rice, potatoes, pasta , breads ) some dairy, nuts and yes, my daily sweet. I eat very well, am not suffering , and dont miss any foods ( well, ok, I miss broccoli !) I also dont miss being obese, having no energy, having sleep apnea, and shopping in the plus section for clothes. I love my healthy, getting stronger, looking better all the time body !!! I'll take the daily compliments and nice looks and feeling 100 % better over ANY food, ANY day! You only have ONE body in ONE life, so take good care of it !

    1000 words

KarenWB, if my math is right, you've been banded about 16 weeks, and have lost about 21 lbs. Thats about 1 lb PER week , which is excellent ! Great job ! YOU are'nt doing anything " wrong" , it sounds like you're doing everything right ! Your body is happy with what you're doing, hopefully your Dr. will be too ! I lost my weight about the same as you, im VERY happy with the results ! Keep it up !

    Considering lap band surgery...

I had lap band Dec, 2011 weighing in at an unhappy, unhealthy 225 lbs. Hubby never said anything but I knew he wasnt happy with the 100 lbs I had gained over the years. He was and still is VERY supportive of me and the band, and he is VERY happy with his new and improved happy, healthy wife ! He read over a little of the info, listened to my info , and basicaly said" go for it !" Remember, even though your husband is not so sure about getting banded, its YOUR body, and YOUR life, and you only get ONE of those ! So treat it well ! Good luck !
  19. Swimming 3x aweek is my thing. Easy on the joints, but what a workout ! Also walking, which turned to slow running 1 - 2 x a week. Finding activities that I loved and could stick with were keys to my weight loss.

    Are you kidding me?!?!?!

Being fabulous has its perks, now does' nt it ? I agree with go walking, they're comparing you to your before and dont realize that you have'nt reached a healthy weight yet. Just tell them you and your Dr. have decided on a certain bmi, you'll celebrate with them when you get there. Congrats on your weight loss so far ! Great job !

    Baked Beans and other foods...

Im 2.5 years post op, can eat some beans fine but only 2-3 bites of pastas or bread before they swell up. I fill in around the meal with homemade spaghetti sauce with meat, or another source of protein or veggies/ salad. I love PB, eat a little everyday. I understand the tight budget thing, but im constantly surprised at how little food it takes to fill me up. I like saving money !!!! Good luck !
  24. I don't think its "lying by omission" at all, you dont owe anybody, including bf or bff an explanation . They don't "owe" you an explanation if they had had a personal type of surgery either, unless it affected you personaly, ( boyfriend has a vasectomy, etc.) I think that if you are comfy sharing it to help them consider WLS , then fine. They might see your success and see WLS as an option for themselves to finally get healthy. But, if they're not very disiplined now, they're going to have to make some big changes and hopefully not be upset at you for suggesting it. Some people take it out on others, just sayin'. Hope all goes well for
