Bypass or Lap band
pink dahlia replied to redwings fan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only looked at the band because there was NO way that I wanted my insides taken out. The band appealed to me because it was less invasive, faster recovery time, and reversible if needed. The others were not. I went back to work a week after surgery, followed my Dr.s rules 95% of the time, and the weight came off steadily. I lost 50 lbs the first 7 months and then gradualy lost another 15. I have never had ANY problems with the band. My Dr is very happy with my progress , as am I. It literaly gave me my life back and Im very grateful ! Best of luck to you ! -
Looking for a home scale that I can use to track weightloss journey
pink dahlia replied to Yasman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a Weight Watchers scale and I love it. No bells or whistles, just shows your weight by lbs and ounces, like 160.4 lbs or whatever your weight is. It's generaly 3 lbs less than my Dr.s very expensive scale, but I dont mind , Im very happy with my weight loss no matter what the scale says ! -

T'was the night before Banding....
pink dahlia replied to Lite'N'Sweet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If its ok with your Dr., try hot tea with a little honey. It's my " cure all " for everything. Congrats on being banded ! Best thing I ever did ! I just followed my Dr.s orders 95 % of the time, and the weight fell off with no problems . Hope all goes smoothly for you too , take it easy !! Congrats again !! -

Sorry ! I thought you had misspelled scuba twice, which made me laugh at the funny sound of "snuba diving ". I had no idea it was a real sport ! My bad !! -

Surgery with a one-year-old
pink dahlia replied to redhead87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your surgery date ! Woo hoo ! I went back to work 1 week after surgery ( on my feet all day, part time), I felt fine, just moved a little slower than usual. Glad I was able to take it easy as I healed. As far as your child, could you hire a neighbor teen or somebody for just the days when your mom wont be there ? For child care and /or light housekeeping ? It would probably only be for a week - 10 days until you're sure you're back on your feet. One year olds are pretty active , you 'll need all the help/rest you can get. The last thing you want is for you to tear stitches, or hurt yourself lifting a busy active child . Ouch !! Good luck ! -

Snuba. Diving................. reeeeeaaaaallllllyyyyyyy ? Hmmmmmmm. Must be a new sport for I have'nt heard about ............. -
I've been banded 2.5 years, and guess what I STILL get stuck on ?? Potatoes and eggs ! They dont like me at all in the AM, and I can just barely manage them for 3 bites in the PM ( but I love potatoes !) . So why are you so upset just after your surgery ? You are being waaaaay too hard on yourself ! (A failure ? Really ?) With time you will find out what foods wiil and wont work with you on different levels, am, pm that time of the month , etc. ! Aaaaaaand occasionly, one you'll never have again (me+raw broccoli = horrible stuck, then up it came !) So, you're NOT a failure, just maybe not ready for certain food that expand quickly, like eggs, potatoes , anything wheat, etc. Good luck !

I hope your band surgery goes as smoothly as mine did. Surgery at 7 am, home by 11:30 am. I was a little tired and sore the 1st 2 days, then much better on the 3rd. ( Dont forget to take into the hospital a BIG bottle of water and a chapstick, for cottonmouth. ) From there on out, it was very easy! Hope all goes well for you ! -
Great nsv ! Congratulations , you go girl !

Fear is getting the best of me.
pink dahlia replied to Tear Bear's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Im 2.5 years out (lap band), and I still can eat 95 % of the foods I used to eat.. The difference is I don't WANT to eat the fast foods or most of the carbs because I've lost my taste for them .. If I do have them occasionally, its just a few bites and then im done. I started loosing weight right away, that gave me incentive to stay on track. Trust me, you are NOT going to starve, and you 'll be too busy watching your pants get baggy to worry about eating more than you should. Good luck ! -
Mortified of band failure
pink dahlia replied to blacktxbelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every single thing you do carries a "risk", but I'd rather be having a 1% chance of having a complication than a 100 % chance of getting sick / dying from an obesity related illness. Choose your risk. -
Bandista, you hit the nail right on the head ! Congratulations ! You're awesome !

What would you change about your pre or post op journey if you could?
pink dahlia replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My only regret is that I did'nt get banded sooner ! 2 relatives were banded Spring 2011, so I started looking into it. I was banded Dec, 2011 and started loosing right away. Never had any problems . The band gave me my life back, Im a happy , healthy person again !! -
Increasing energy during two week pre-op diet
pink dahlia replied to blacktxbelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you improve your diet and start eating healthier, you'll be amazed at how much energy you ' ll have ! Only when I eat too many sweets ( my biggest , never ending problem ) do I notice my energy sagging. The more lean protein and fresh fruits and veggies I eat, the better I feel. -
Hi Katie, you'll find lots of support here ! ! Sorry you are having such a crappy time, but better that you found out about him now, and not after ! Being happy and healthy for yourself is the most important thing, after that, you'll find someone who is better for you and is attracted to the new you !!! Good luck !!!!

My first holiday since weight loss surgery.......
pink dahlia replied to ALLGODSGRACE's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my lap band done Dec 13, 2011, so I was on liquids /smushies all through the holidays. As long as I stayed full on the protien shakes, soup broth, jello etc I did'nt even miss the holiday food. The weight started dropping off right away, so it made it easy to stick to the program. Good luck to all ! -

pink dahlia replied to catlover602's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats and welcome to the other side !!! I felt a little tired and worn out the first 2 days, but much better on the 3rd day. Daily hot tea and a hot shower helped alot , along with walking and liquids. Hope you do well ! Happy 4th of July ! -
