controling bad eating habits before Lap Band surgery
pink dahlia replied to bajagal101's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One of the many things I would like to share with lap banders is you dont have to have a Food Funeral ! Most people can eat 75-100 % of what they ate before. The thing is , partly, is you dont WANT to eat junk because you're noticing a weight loss or feeling heathier or looser clothes. Yes I can still have pizza, cheeseburgers and fries, bread, and pasta, but very rarely eat them, and then only have a couple of bites before im satisfied or my body says " NO more! " I only have a few foods that I absolutely cant have again, so you learn to substitute something close. ( celery instead of broccoli, chicken thighs instead of chicken breast, etc ). NO food funerals ! Just normal healthy foods with an occasional not so healthy food. Mostly protein, fruits, salads, some nuts, cheese, crackers and pb. A little cookie/ ice cream or something sweet every day. Nothing weird, Hope this helps ! -
VENT: A 5 year old made me want to cry.
pink dahlia replied to PuraVida37's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I totally agree with junebug and all the others, it a kid observing everything with a ongoing running vocal commentary, because some kids are very talkitive about what they see in their world. ( Ive raised 4 kids), If the kid had commented "I like your green dress" or "you have cool sandals on !!!" , you would have thought it kinda funny and cute.. But because it was a sensitive topic, it hurt your feelings. Sorry you felt so bad, hopefully with time his parents will teach him how to ask ? or comment more privately. One of my kids was like this, I had to teach it was okay to me ? out of hearing of others, but not in front of others. Otherwise it was " how come that man does' nt have a leg ? Why does that lady use a wheelchair ? etc. It comes with time and practice.. Hope your day goes well !!! Hugs !!! -
I have no idea what the above post is supposed to say, but good for you for loosing 10 lbs ! Way to go !!!

Honestly, I've had a root canal that was more painful , and took me longer to bounce back ! And it was an easy root canal ! I was home 5 hrs after checking into the hospital for lap band . First 2 days I rested and walked and took my pain meds, 3rd day I did'nt even need them anymore, walked very slowly around the house. Went back to work 1 week after surgery. Easy. Listen to your Dr.s orders, you'll be fine. Good luck! !!

Sorry you have to be going through this, sending you hugs !! The only thing I can think of is 1. You handled it extremely well, especially since you were caught off guard ! 2. Unfortunately , kids have no filter, and he may have been taught or heard that being " fat" is not "okay " or different , or out of place, just as kids may point out a very tall person, a bald head, a girl with bright purple hair, etc........ anything that stands out, kids will notice and comment on it ( no filter yet ). His comment did hit a nerve with you because of your past, which hurt your feelings. You should give yourself a big hug for handling it so well, setting an example for your daughter, and working so hard that you have lost 80 some pounds ! WOW ! Congratulations ! Keep up the good work ! Hugs ! -

Leepers , wow ! You look great ! Its a good thing you pointed out that you were the one in the pink dress, I would of had a hard time figuring out which one of you was the "skinny, beautiful bride to be !!" Congrats to both of you, bride and bridesmaid !! -
My sleep apnea went away 6 months after WLS ( yay !) So I understand the problems with the mask, etc. But if I were you, I would def let the sleep Dr. know that you're not wearing it and why. He/she is'nt going to yell at you, but they need to know the details. Remember, one of the issues with people who have sleep apnea is a high risk of stroke. The more they know, the more they can help you, so put on your big girl panties and deal ! Good luck ! PS - great job on your weight loss !!!!!

Welcome to the other side ! Congrats ! I remember being a little hungry afterwards , but just a little liquid filled me up , soup broth or protein shake. Hope all goes well for you !

Do You Think People Treat You Differently Since You've Lost Weight?
pink dahlia replied to enjoythetime's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes , I get treated differently and better since my weight loss, but I have to also hand it to human nature. I mean, if you had to look at the choices you have made in a house, favorite outfit, dog etc, and they were all the same price, did'nt you choose t he attractive one over the not as attractive one ?? Cute puppy over not so cute puppy ? You get the picture. Same with weight loss, we just take it more personaly. Just my opinion. -
Hope all goes quickly for you ! I ve been banded 2.5 years, love my band, best decison ever ! Good luck !

Friend sabotaging me?
pink dahlia replied to briefs199's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost anyplace you go will have salads or something healthy on the menu. Even the very rare times there was only a Mcdonalds nearby, I still was able to get a really good grilled chicken salad. You have decided to get WLS to get healthy ( good for you !) but remember, your friend has not. Yet, you still have to work together, and have a healthy friendship. Sooooo, there maybe be some difficult changes and challenges in that work friendship. Be prepared , it will probably cause some difficulties, so " choose your battles wisely". If worse comes to worse, remember that there are 21 meals in a week, and if you have to go to a place occasionaly that she wants to go to, one unhealthy meal a week wont kill you. Best of luck to you ! -
Really ? A piece of cake ? Who did'nt cheat on their pre op diet ? Good grief, get a hold of yourself !! How far do you think you're going to get in anything if you give up so easily ? My Dr. said 95 % of the time, eat healthy ! The other 5 % ? ! dont worry about it! Good advice ! You should consider it! Good luck !

Rollercoaster month
pink dahlia replied to JustWatchMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you have to be having such a sucky time, I hope things get better for you soon. As far as stress goes, im guessing that yes, stress caused all yourproblems, and now that your stress is gone, so is the "no appetite". I totally get the need to "task", so if that works for you, how about setting up an hourly task on your phone , calendar, or whatever works for you ? Like 9-9:30, do laundry. 9:30-10, clean kitchen, etc ........whatever your needs are. I find that when I have somewhat of a schedule in my mind, im less likely to wander in the house, which leads me through the kitchen......... to mindless snacking, etc.......... good luck to you ! Hugs !! -
Please help-losing weight before surgery
pink dahlia replied to krazyglue12's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started out in a swim fitness class at the Y. We have some people in the class 300-400 lbs .. Who cares ? We're proud of them for showing up and trying ! One lady has lost 100 lbs or so, she is on the Paleo diet. Google it, it looks really good !!! One thing that helped me alot was a year or so before WLS we started cutting back slowly on fast food and anything white or high carb. ( Husband was diagosed diabetic) We switched to whole grain, whole wheat, more chicken , fish and lean meats, plus more veggies and salads. ( I dont like soda, alcohol or fried foods) I was still eating too large amounts but lap band took that away, and at least I did'nt feel like I was giving up anything by the time I was banded. Good luck to you ! -

pink dahlia replied to unsupersizeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my band !!! No horror stories here !!! I was banded Dec 2011, at 225 lbs. My Dr. said " if you follow the rules 95 % of the time , you'll lose the weight. " Well I did listen and lost 65 of the 85 lbs, my body seems to have settled at a healthy 160. I started swimming 3 x a week just before I was banded, and walking 1-2 times a week. Now, no more sleep apnea, digestive problems or disliking what I see in the mirror. Now I m a healthy , happy size 10, I can run , ( wheeee !!! -

Please help, considering removing band
pink dahlia replied to Susan58's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to have have hot tea or hot Swiss Miss ( made with water) 1st thing in the AM, or anytime my band is tight. It opens it up. Also I cant lay down right after I eat, or food comes back up. Sorry you're having Dr. problems, I would definetly get a new one no matter how much you've invested in him ! You deserve better ! Good luck ! -
Still on the fence, what does a day in the life look like?
pink dahlia replied to ren0318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I was banded Dec 13, 2011 at 225 lbs, I quickly hit 175 on August 1, 2012. I then slowed down weight loss wise, it took me another year to get to 160. It was a very easy surgery and recovery. I just followed my Drs rules about protein, water and exercise, and so far I have'nt had any problems. I love my band !!! As far as my average daily diet ? I can eat 90 % of what I ate before, I eat fairly healthy, mostly home cooking. We eat out maybe 1-2 x a month. So, here goes.........6:30 am - hot tea, 8am Belvita breakfast biscuts (4 in a pkg) and a piece or 2 of turkey jerky. 10 am Swiss Miss ( made with water), & 4 wheat thins w/ PB. Lunch- usually fish, chicken, or small piece of meat, with fruit or raw veggies, Or today spinach salad with chicken , strawberries, tiny amt of cheese and almonds. 4pm -snack , small fruit or cookie (sigh.....my sweet tooth attack), 6 pm same as dinner. Very easy, no weird foods etc. Hope this helps !! Im very glad I was banded, im healthy and happy again !! Good luck !!
