Tale of a bariatric diet goody-two-shoes...
pink dahlia replied to Teachamy's topic in Rants & Raves
I dont cook alot either, its just me and my hubby now, kids are moved out . (Yay !), but if I had had kids at home and were super busy like you are I would of cooked differently, now that im banded. How about making it the big "once a month cooking day " and then it all goes into the freezer ? Take out what you need nightly for the next days meals . I dont remember what its called, maybe google "freezer cooking " or " make ahead meals "? But lots of variety, easy on the wallet, less cooking stress, etc. Good luck ! -

Awful news - How do you deal with this after the band?
pink dahlia replied to shantra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there. Im so sorry for your loss, I know this must be a difficult time for you. Please understand that im sending this advice with hugs and the best of intentions. Theres nothing wrong with your trip to Mcdonalds today. You had a huge shock and you were looking for comfort, and food was it. Not a big deal as long as you learn that food cant be used every day as a coping mechanism for stress. Today? Fine, maybe even tomorrow some until you get over the shock, but start thinking of healthier ways to deal with stress down the road, because stress will always be part of our lives. Take a walk, talk to somebody, listen to happy music, etc. Exercise especially will help, it sends happy endorphins to your body and helps you handle stress better, sleep better, cope better. Just everything better. Take one day at a time, breathe and remember you have a lot of support here too. My best to you, hope tomorrow is better. Hugs ! -
Oh good grief. Im so sorry you have to go through this. Im lucky my late mom was supportive, but I still would of had WLS , with or without her support. My body, my issues, my life. Same for you. Annnnnd.......... no disrespect to your mom, but im guessing she's had some sort of surgery in her lifetime, dental, broken bone, etc. Next time she bugs you about YOUR surgery, ask her why SHE had surgery. Why did'nt she just fix the problem herself and skip surgery ? Because she had a problem that could'nt be solved without it surgery. Same idea applies to WLS. Just sayin. I wish you the best. (and I have 3 adopted grown kids, im a step child myself, so yes I get that there are other issues, but thats a story for another day. ) good luck !

post op surgery swelling GONE
pink dahlia replied to TraciL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Traci L. ! You are almost the exact same weight I was when I got banded, and I understand your temptation issues. I found that when I ate my protein 1st, fruits and veggies 2nd, carbs last, I really didnt have hardley ANY room for junk. If I still craved something sweet, I was happy with a small cookie or a WW ice cream bar. I swam 3 x a week, walked 1x a week. And im not lying , the weight started coming off immediately. On surgery day ( Dec 13, 2011) I was 220 lbs. By end of Feb, I was down another 15 lbs. Everyone 's body will respond differently, but if you stick to the rules, you will be much more successful. Wishing you luck !!! You can do this !! -
Is there anything I'm forgetting for Surgery Post Op?
pink dahlia replied to rsumbler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
( Congrats ! Hope yours goes as smoothly as mine did. Dont forget chapstick, a BIG bottle of water , and lifesavers( for cottonmouth) and a pillow or 2 for the car ride home. I cant do recliners, I was most comfy laying flat on the couch for a couple of days. I did need a little help getting up for the 1st 3 days, after that I was fine . Went back to work 1 week after the band. Good luck to you, im so glad I was banded, I got my life back ! -
Newbie having a rough day
pink dahlia replied to Lovelynne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep in mind that if you've done your homework and research, and your Dr, thinks its a good idea, then other peoples opinions just dont matter much. You are doing this for YOU, NOT them !!!! Congrats to you for getting healthy and strong ! Thats whats important, not others uninformed opinions. You go girl ! -
Yeah, what she said !!! Congrats ! Welcome to the other side ! Take it a day at a time and let us know how you 're doing !!!!

post op surgery swelling GONE
pink dahlia replied to TraciL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to "Bandster Hell". You've had the surgery, but probably no fill, sooooooo , that means no restriction. Yet. Until you get to fills and the green zone, you'll have to watch what you eat very carefully... My Dr.s orders were protein 1st, fruits and veggies 2nd, carbs last. No fast food, limit sweets, exercise min 3x a week. Lots of water. Its not that hard. But the payoff is sweeeeet !!!!! You can do this too. We've got your back. Good luck !!! -

pink dahlia replied to TraciL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you choose the wrong foods to eat ? Yes. Did you choose the wrong surgery ? Depends on you . You have to stick to the rules if you want to be successful, with a stronger , healthier mind and body. Im doubtful cheetos and apple fritters are what your Dr. reccommended, so let this mistake go, learn from it, and stick to the rules, clear liquids or mushies ? Not sure what you're on , but you can do it ! We've ALL been there ! Good luck ! -

Curious if your feet change after weight loss
pink dahlia replied to DanaKat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used to be a 7.5 med, then I gained weight after having my son, and gradually went up to a 9.5 med. Now after the weight loss I ve gone down to a size 9 med and sometimes an 8.5 med. I gave away several pairs of cute shoes , but oh well ! That just meant a justified reason to shop ! Have fun ! -
Well, SOMEBODY got dipped in awesome sauce !!!!!!! Congrats ! Way to go !!

You and I are the same height (5'3), and I started out almost the same weight as you. ( 225 lbs). I joined our local YMCA just before I was banded, and started 3 mornings a week , , in a fast moving swim fitness class, at 6 am . In a size 18 bathing suit. If I can do it , so can you ! It helped me lose 65 lbs , fast but healthy ! We had , and still do , ALL shapes, sizes and weights. We have one lady who has lost 100 lbs, she still shows up, probably weighs 300 still. Who cares ? Not us ! Quit worrying about what "other people " think and worrying !

My NSV - Missed my window!
pink dahlia replied to JustWatchMe's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats to all ! Love the nsv stories !! Besides cleaning out the closet of too big clothes, my favorite one was trying on a pair of size 12 -14 jeans at home, but could nt get them buttoned or zipped... about 4 weeks later, they fit very comfortably ! I remember yelling for my husband, jumping up and down , saying over and over, " they fit ! they fit ! they fit !!!!!" He must of thought I was looney tunes.......... -
My opinion only, but yes you did overdo it. You are supposed to be resting, not running others around., no offense to your moms needs, but someone else needs to be taking care of her AND you this week while you rest and recover. Others need to step up to the plate while you heal. Just sayin........... rest, fluids, walk...........repeat.........good luck !

I have BCBS, it took less than 60 days if I remember right, I got 1st letter approval. I had my 1st appt with the surgeon in early Sept 2011, and had my paperwork done and submitted fairly soon after, must of been approved fairly quick as I was able to be banded Dec 13, 2011. They paid for ALL of it, and im extremely grateful to them ! This was a 2nd chance for me and I was' nt going to mess it up, so I listened to my Dr.s rules and have done well so far. Im VERY happy I got banded !

Slow weight loss
pink dahlia replied to madwife2002's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
" Sloooooowwwwww progress is better than nooooooo progress !" unknown author, and " Comparison is the thief of joy " Teddy Roosevelt. Instead of complimenting yourself on what you HAVE done, you're ragging on yourself for what you HAVE'NT done ! Through hard work and perseverance, you've lost weight and are making your body healthy, strong and unstopable ! That alone is worth a pat on the back , NOT a kick in the a$$ !!!!!! Sorry. I got a little pissy there. I just have trouble with negativity when it should be positive , atta girl, great job , etc..........instead of the " Eeyore Complex", ( the sad donkey from Winnie the Pooh), "poor me, it's not going to be a good day, it won't work out........), excuse me, I gotta go do stuff.............. -

What are you most proud of since wls? Or what are you striving for? Most memorable moment?
pink dahlia replied to CTRose1160's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Great thread ! The thing im most proud of ? The fact that I can call myself a runner. Mind. Blowing. I ran in my younger years, loved it, but havent ran in probably 25 years. I still cant run fast, or very far, but I can call myself a runner. Thank you lap band ! I used to look at average size healthy women wearing cute running gear and wish it could be me, and now it is ! I also enjoy cute clothes, nice compliments, my husbands supportive comments, and yes, funny flirting from cute men! ( Im married, not dead !)....... I look forward to horseback riding, getting stronger , yoga, zip lines, , traveling comfortably, and running , even a short ways, in every state I visit in the future ! -
Congrats ! Way to go ! You are a "real runner ! ", because they is no such thing as a fake runner ! You go girl !

Didn't think it could happen..
pink dahlia replied to tomdelo's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats ! Way to go ! 10 lbs !!!!!!!!! I leave Aug 14th for Cooperstown , NY ( Baseball Hall of Fame ) for a week of vacation . Then riding a train back across the US to Wash state for 2 days. Anyone have any advice, food or otherwise ? Thanks ! -
Had pizza last night. 1 small piece with spinach, white sauce , mozzarella etc, and 2 chicken wings. Thats all I can eat at one sitting anymore. Occasionally Ill have a piece of pepperoni with cheese, but I limit pizza to once a month , if that. Im not a big pizza fan, sweets are my downfall.
