LapBand-friendly fast food (don't judge me!)
pink dahlia replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If im desperate, McDonald's bacon ranch salad with grilled chicken, about 400calories, but I can only eat the small amount of chicken and a little salad and dressing so around 250 cals. Burger Kings jr whopper, I get about 3 small bites with the bun, 3 small bites without the bun and 3-4 fries, done. Taco Time small taco salad with sour cream on the side, mmmmmmm. -
Congratulations ! Great job !! Just curious, how are you able to get all your vitamins and nutrients in on that low of calories ? Just wondering, are your skin and hair doing ok ? Im concerned that I would have problems if I went too low. By the way, you look great !!

Slow losers, how do you stay motivated?
pink dahlia replied to futureformerfattie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with all the above posts, if you've lost 40 lbs in 5 months, thats an average of 2 lbs a week, or 8 lbs a month. Thats great !! I dont know why your surgeon thought you'd lose more by now, but the last thing you want is to lose too much too fast and develop other health problems from small ( unhealthy skin and hair) to big ( heart and kidney). Congratulate yourself on your healthy journey so far ! Great job !! -
Panic eating as I anticipate scheduling surgery
pink dahlia replied to loser2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are some ways I have quelled my anxiety post surgery ? Let me count the ways...... I truly started listening to my body. If I craved a certain food I asked myself if I was truly hungry, or was I tired, stressed, overwhelmed , etc . If I was hungry then I ate my protein first, fruit and veggies 2nd, and then usually I just didnt want the candy anymore.. if I did, I had a little and moved on. Its not the end of the world to have a daily treat ( for me) , according to my surgeon I should eat healthy 95 % of the time and not worry about 5% of the time. So far, so good ! -

Panic eating as I anticipate scheduling surgery
pink dahlia replied to loser2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please do nt worry that you won't be able to have some of your favorite foods after surgery. Although you will want to stop eating the junk , most people can eat most of the foods they had before surgery, just in smaller amounts. The ones that cause the most problems are anything bread based or rice and pasta items. So, no need to binge eat, because its not necessary ! Good luck on your upcoming surgery !! -

pink dahlia replied to betty_s's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Sorry operator error ------ plantar facitis in the left heel. So, maybe you're using your collarbone area differently, and thats why it hurts ?? -
achy bones the more weight you lose?
pink dahlia replied to betty_s's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
BettyS, could it be because you're using your chest/shoulder area more now, and maybe thats why the collarbone ache ?? Several months agoi developed pain in my right hip, then it slowly spread to my right hip, then left heel problems. Diagnosis was bursitis started in my right hip due to mild walking / running and working on cement floors. Because I was using my left hip to compensate, I developed bursitis there abd plantar -
My doctor says that gastric banding is a waste of time.
pink dahlia replied to tljohan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my lap band, didnt even look at anything else as I didnt want my insides rerouted either. The only thing im not "wasting my time on " is sleep apnea, exhaustion, size 18 clothes, and hating how I looked and felt , etc. Now im "wasting my time " swimming , running/walking, shopping for smaller clothes, traveling , climbing stairs easily, and having fun !!! Find a Dr. that supports YOUR wants and needs, NOT just his/hers !!, because you are going to want/need his/her support for a looooong time, so you both need to be on the SAME TEAM. Just sayin' Good luck ! -

Struggling going back to work today.
pink dahlia replied to Thinkingthinner1109's topic in Rants & Raves
Hope things are going a little better by the time you read this, maybe a few deep breaths ? If your supervisor is the main problem, and everything she says and does trickles down, there isnt much you can do to change the situation. Soooooo, from past experience, I figured I had 2 choices. I could either come in every day, get myself all worked up over a problem that they ( mgmt) would do nothing about, take that stress home with me and create more problems at home , OR , come in , do my 8 hrs, pick up my paycheck, and go home, and realize that mgmt was going to do nothing about the problem. Either way, they were'nt going to change anything, so dont stress about it. And, no surprise, my supervisor s eventually got fired, I got a good reputation for handling things calmly and professionaly, and it all worked out. The end. Hugs to you , lots ! -

Four-Year Bandiversary
pink dahlia replied to nomorejellybelly's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Loved your story, congratulations on all your success's !! I have the big old , goofball boy labrador too. He weighs 140, ( my goal) I still weigh 160. Sad when your enormous dog weighs less than you do. Luckily , I can find the humor in this. I just figure that being fabulous adds an extra 20 lbs to anyone s body. Just sayin '................ -

Eeeek ! So sorry you have to work in that hostile place, too bad the person who called you all b☆☆☆☆es doesn't see that her behavior is setting the tone for the whole place/attitude ! That being said you cant change her behaviour, you can only change how you handle her behavior. Many years ago, I worked in a stressful environment too with bad attitude bosses. (3 of them , together, all in the same department ! ) When they were rude/ disrespectful I politely, calmly but firmly disagreed or stood my ground. I got a reputation for it, and eventually all 3 got fired for their bad behavior ! So, stand your ground on their bad attitude, and dont stress about the extra work because stress wont change the situation, it will just make you feel/act worse and then they'll try to pick on you even more. ( big dogs picking on the little dog syndrome ) Be calm and just do your best ! Good luck ! -
We dont cook from any special cookbooks, instead we just cook healthy foods that are diabetic friendly, more or less. ( husband is diabetic) We eat alot of lean meats, fruit, salads, veggies etc. If we do have carbs its once a week potatoes or whole grain pasta with homemade spaghetti sauce. He loves yogurt, eggs and veggies, I dont like them much. I prefer fresh fruit, nuts, a little cheese. ( and sweets, sigh....... my downfall.......)

Yes, Its completely normal. Some weeks you will lose, some not. All normal. Your body is making an enormous adjustment from surgery, it is usually trying to figure out if it's being starved or not. It can hold onto the fat until its sure its getting all the proteins and water, etc that it need to stay healthy. I found that if I kept a daily diary of food, water, weight etc I was happier with my weight loss monthly, as some people stress over their weight loss daily or weekly. Good luck !!

Banded today in South Korea
pink dahlia replied to Nire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations and welcome to the other side ! I needed help get ting off the bed for the 1st few days, having someone pull me straight up slowly was a big help. The less you use your stomach muscles for awhile the better . Also , im surprised you weren't told to get your supplies and liquids before surgery ! Why are you going out to get these things after surgery ? You are supposed to be resting so you can heal. Hope things go better for you. Good luck ! -
Has anyone got advice on how to look after little kids during post-op?
pink dahlia replied to I'm Ready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Part of being a "good parent " is taking good care of yourself and setting an example on how to be healthy. You are no less a "good parent " by following the rules as much as possible. So , you might try a "trial run " of parenting your toddler without lifting him. See what you can prepare / fix ahead etc now. Meals, premade snacks, diaper bags packed etc. Good luck ! -
Yes I would worry about the stairs, and trying to go back to work within 4 days. I m glad I took a week off, I needed it, and I dont teach kids or climb tons of stairs ! I think you need at least a week off, just my opinion. Good luck !

You did the right things once, you can do them again ! You have to start somewhere, here is a good "somewhere !" You have lots of support here, and you should see your surgeon and a Nut. too to help you get off to a healthy start both mentally and psychically. Good luck ! You can do this !

You mihht have done yourself a favor by not going out to eat. 4 weeks after being banded we hit a favorite Mexican restaurant. I very carefully had 4 small bites of the inside of an quesidilla, and 2 tiny sips of hubbys margarita. I forgot and used the straw. I dont know which part of all that didn't agree with me, but tmi alert............it was a run for the bathroom time, and the rest came up in the parking lot. Alot. Very bad. So, you might have done yourself a good thing because sometimes 4 weeks just isnt enough. My hubby is very happy otherwise with my being banded, it just was a few adjustment s, and then it got better and better ! Good luck to you and your hubby !!
