Your response to: "but you aren't 'THAT' big!"
pink dahlia replied to MisforMimi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Maybe you could reply back " Its nice that you dont " see " that i Im big enough for WLS, but what you can't "see" is the internal medical problems, problems A, B, and C, also my inherited medical problems X, Y, and Z from my parents. Im getting WLS to get going on a long life with a healthy body ! " Maybe that will explain enough to everyone ? Just a thought . Good luck !! -
Success despite partner not being supportive
pink dahlia replied to briefs199's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Briefs, sorry I can't advise you about how to get your spouse involved. My spouse has always been 100 % supportive, so im no help there. My question to you though ( and I say this with love and all due respect), you say that you've always done everything with no support from anyone, so why do you expect you husband to all of a sudden support you now ? YOU are making changes to get healthy, (good for you !) and in a perfect world your husband would be there for you. Unfortunately, its not a perfect world and since this has been your relationship with him for quite some time, I honestly dont think he's going to change because YOU are making good changes for YOUR healthy future. However, if you do need support, this is the place you'll get it. I wish you well !! -
OK, so what's going on? Not losing.
pink dahlia replied to Darlyn Dwan Rottkamp DeVoe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You might be "starving " if you haven't had a fill, its called Bandster Hell for a reason. You might try tracking your food, water and exercise on Myfitnesspal.com. It will really break down what you're eating and might help you see where you can improve. Good luck ! -

Band tomorrow morning - 10/13/14
pink dahlia replied to Bill Hood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is there anybody who can drive you there and back ? You might be groggy, or in a bit of pain afterwards. Might not be the best for you to drive alone, and you may need someone to help you at home the first few days. Don't forget a chapstick and a big bottle of cool ( not cold ) water for the ride home. ( cottonmouth from surgery) . Good luck ! -
FIRST time wearing a DRESS in 20+ years
pink dahlia replied to HealthyNewMe's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look sooooo pretty !!! Love the dress !! Congratulations !! -
I cant eat oatmeal or eggs or most breakfast foods in the AM, they either swell up or get stuck. But for some reason I don't have as many problems In the evening. I haven't tried oatmeal in a few years, but I had breakfast for dinner tonight with no problems. ( 1/2 an egg, 1 pc bacon, 1/2 small potato. ) I'll have to try oatmeal some evening !

4 months after surgery........what is going on?
pink dahlia replied to prolife2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely normal. Your body is not going to lose weight every single week, sometimes it will hold on to the weight to make sure its not being starved. Once your body figures out that its getting the best food and water and exercise, it will feel better about dropping the extra weight. So STAY OFF THE SCALE. Dont use it if it bothers you, just trust the process. You are doing great by the way !! I think it took me 4 fills to get to the green zone, and even then they dont last forever, so I just stuck to the rules no matter what , 95 % of the time, and I was successfull ! You will be too ! You got this !! Good luck !! -
10 days post op - pinching & pulling feeling on left side
pink dahlia replied to danni#L's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im 3 yrs banded, but if I remember right, the band is stitched to a muscle on the left side which still occasionally causes an issue with me, but nothing as bad as your pain, so yes I would call your Dr. to let him know , just to be safe. Yesterday, I was at Physical Therapy for a foot injury, the therapist had me bend a certain way and I definitely felt a pinch over my port. (Uncomfortable, but very noticable every time I bent that way !) So it does happen but call yourDr. anyway. Congratulations on your WLS, it just keeps getting better and better !! -
What was your start weight & why lap-band?
pink dahlia replied to erika00000's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It very smart of you to research and question everything ! Its your body, health, and future. So go for what is best for you and you alone. Also, make sure you have a good working relationship with your Dr. You and he/she will be on the same team for a looooonnnnggggg time, so make sure you're on the same page. As far as a 20 year study, etc ? I figure even 20 yrs of a healthy body is better than more years in an unhealthy body. No more sleep apnea, digestive problems, being dead tired all the time, trying to literally haul myself up stairs, etc......... I'll take it ! -
Do you think I need a fill? Can you eat rice?
pink dahlia replied to jkitch's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your weight loss so far ! Sounds like you're doing great ! As far as volume, I couldn't eat 3 cups of anything if tried ! 3 cups at 1 sitting is a bit much I think, but you should check with your Dr. As far as rice ? Depends on what kind. White rice =-3 bites. Uncle Bens brown rice in a box , 3 -4 bites, but Uncle Bens brown rice in a microwave bag ? Can't even get 1 bite down, it mucks up on me. So , for me, I guess it depends on what kind of rice, same with bread, depends on type and brand etc. Good luck ! -
What was your start weight & why lap-band?
pink dahlia replied to erika00000's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had been struggling with my weight for many years, even went on Weight Watchers for a year , lost a whole 12 lbs in a year. Then a relative had lap band in the Spring of 2011, so I started looking into it for myself. I did my research on the band only, I was' nt interested in anything else. No rerouting my insides, thankyouverymuch ! I was banded Dec, 2011 and immediately started loosing weight . I lost my 1st 50 lbs in 7 months, then it slowed a bit but I still lost another 15 to get to a healthy 160. I literally got my life back! I swim , walk, run , travel, shop for cute clothes (size 10 !) and live a normal life with a healthy relationship with food. I wouldn't change a thing about being banded ! Good luck ! -
11 months before and in progress
pink dahlia replied to Brandigirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations on your weight loss so far ! You look great ! As far as ideas, I finally gave up on the A.M. protien shakes. They did'nt keep me full for long, then I would need to eat something, so the protien shakes were just added calories. Instead, I found that if I have a cup of hot tea (I dislike coffee), that opens my band to some foods. I can' t do typical breakfast foods, so I experimented and found some heathy foods that do work or me. Texture made all the difference. Belvita Breakfast Biscuit s, turkey jerkey, cheese stick, trail mix , etc all work for me. Later on my AM break, a cup of Swiss Miss cocoa and a few Wheat Thins w/ pb. As far as exercise, try something you've never done before ! You may find a new healthy hobby ! Bike riding, swimming, rock climbing, Zumba etc ! You dont have to do them permanently, just TRY them !! Good luck ! -
Getting annoyed and being sensitive.
pink dahlia replied to Sassy Little Redhead's topic in Rants & Raves
Well , yes you do have a sassy attitude, and I like it !!! You are going to need it if you have to continue to deal with other uninformed attitudes. You already explained to them about the health problems !! They're nurses and they STILL don't get it ?? Geesh !!! You may or may not become more outspoken when you start to lose weight, some people become more self confident when they feel stronger and better about themselves. Well, good for you for staying strong and standing up for yourself ! I think you made the right decision, and I think you're going to be very successful !! Good luck !!! -
Sorry you had to go through bandsters hell so misinformed !! It would of helped if you had known what to expect !!!! But im glad to see you're on your way to Loserville !!! Hope all continues to go well ! Keep up the good work !!

Counting the days
pink dahlia replied to lapbandmin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooooh ! I'm so excited for you ! I took a week off too, so glad I did, I needed that time to adjust and rest. The 1st few days I was tired and sore, after that it was smooth sailing ! I started looking and feeling better right away as I was eating better and loosing weight . I just followed my Dr.s orders and was very happy with the weight that started coming off. Hope all goes well for you on Monday ! Good luck !! -
Surgery went well today
pink dahlia replied to MamaRita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations !! Welcome to the other side ! Glad to hear that all is well. As far a pain meds go, I think they were disgusting too !! If I remember right I took liquid Tylenol if needed after the 2nd day. I don't remember being in alot of pain, just really sore on the left side. Hopefully as you rest and walk for the next few days you'll feel better. Stay strong ! You got this !! -
If this is any help, I was close to your height and weight when I got banded, and although I don't think I can lose the last 20 lbs I had hoped for, I have no loose skin at all. I was 53 when I was banded, the Dr. told me the tummy was where the very last of my extra weight would come off, and it would be the hardest to get off. Oh, how true ! So yes, I do a a small tummy roll, but I really dont care ! Im in a happy, healthy size 10 body, faaaarrrr better than my before body that was overweight and unhealthy. So I'll never have a flat tummy again ? Oh well !!!
-
I cant do any typical breakfast foods in the morning, no eggs, oatmeal, pancakes etc. After a cup of hot tea, I can do Belvita breakfast biscuts ( grocery stores cookie aisle, don't get the chocolate flavor ), turkey jerky, PB onWheat Thins, cheese sticks, trail mix, homemade oatmeal breakfast cookies, yogurt or a smoothie.

Starting to get the jitters!
pink dahlia replied to Queenz_Cece's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Queen cece and mama rita, lisa caron is right on the money on everything ! Dont forget to take a chapstick, a BIG bottle of water ( not too cold ) and a toothbrush and toothpaste. I had the worst cottonmouth when I came out of surgery, it took me all day to get rid of it ! Also, my pain was'nt bad at all, and I have a low tolerance for pain. I quit taking the liquid pain meds after the 2nd day, didn't need them as it just felt like a really bad pulled muscle on my left side. So you'll probably feel out of sorts for the first few days, a little tired and raggedy, but thats normal. I'be banded 3 yrs in Dec, wouldn't change a thing !! Good luck !! -
What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
pink dahlia replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This did'nt hurt my feelings but since you asked............... many years ago i was heavy and I kept my then short straight brown hair in a curly perm. The neighbor kid said " She looks like Richard Simmons !" Gee, .............thanks kid ! Now , I have a slimmer body and longer warm blond hair. I wonder who he thinks I look like now ? And #2, my now 20 yr old daughter was always what I called "sturdy.". In elementary school one girl kept making rude comments to her, calling my daughter "fat" , etc. It was really bothering my kid one day, so ........I never, ever would tell my kids to swear or call someone else names, but I had to say SOMETHING that would let my daughter know I was on her side. So...... when she told me this mean girl had called her "fat" at school, I calmly replied " next time she says that to you say " Yes, but I can go on a diet but you'll always be a bitch !" My kid was so shocked at my unusual language that she literally fell on the floor laughing ! "MOM ! Im shocked at you ! " Well, it had to be said !!!
