My diabetic husband is a good cook and loves to do anything on the barbecue ("Mrs. Santa" got him a new smoker/barbq for Christmas ) so this healthy recipe for salmon comes out great everytime. He rubs the salmon with some Kraft Mayo with Olive Oil, a little Splenda brown sugar, and sprinkles on some Costco no salt seasoning, and thats it ! Grills it about 10-12 mins. Also , one of the the most delicious things I ever had from a barbecue was fresh caught tuna , and slices of grilled pineapple with a little bit of brown sugar on them. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Appetite suppressants (prescribed) 2 years out...
pink dahlia replied to McButterpants's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Sorry my response posted twice ! It showed a minute ago that it hadnt posted so I hit send again . Ooops . Anyways, Kindle pointed out something to discuss with your Dr. , yes, appetite suppressors are amphetamines with pros and cons. Some people can have heart problems , etc. When I went on the ADD meds, I noticed my heart rate sped up, which is normal considering they are technicaly "Speed".( I dont drink coffee or soda, only a little tea). My Dr. had me do a 2 week test of keeping track of my pulse before, and after taking the meds. Combined with a previous heart rate test, it showed my heart to be perfectly fine on the meds. Having the test put my mind at ease, so you might want to discuss ALL the pros and cons of any medication with your Dr., short term or not. Hope all goes well !!! -
Appetite suppressants (prescribed) 2 years out...
pink dahlia replied to McButterpants's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I say go for it. If the meds are a stepping stone to get to a healthy weight, and the side effects are minimal, why not ?? Theres no shame in giving your body a little extra help when needed. If you needed glasses or a hearing aid or a knee brace you wouldn't be feeling bad/ guilty /ashamed / about it would you? The appetite monster is no different !! If this is any help, last spring I finally approached my regular Dr. about what I suspected was a lifelong problem with ADD. . ( Attention Deficit Disorder ) Long story short, she finally prescribed an ADD medication , ( a side effect is decreased appetite) and my appetite really went down. I lost 20 lbs in 5 months and am very close to goal ! While this was an unexpected benefit I don't feel the least bit "guilty " for having some extra help in getting to a healthy weight. You shouldn't feel guilty either. Just happy and healthy !! Good luck !! -

Don't get a lap band
pink dahlia replied to Stupid Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"I just ate what wanted when I wanted " tells a big part of the story . Although the band can help cut down the quantity of food you take in, it can't decide on the type of food you take. Thats YOUR choice. While everyone has a different experience with the band, I couldn't be happier with mine. Yes, it took some time to get the fills and green zone on track, I knew going in it would be somewhat time consuming , but that was part of being banded. December 13th was my 4 year anniversary, I followed the rules 95% of the time and started loosing immediately. Best decision ever !! -

pink dahlia replied to Tricia37's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations , and welcome too ! Youll find lots of support and help here, I think this website should be required reading for all potential WLS patients !! Sometimes the voice of experience is better than anything you' read in a book or a handout, just my opinion. Hope things go well for you, its the best thing I could of ever done for myself ! Good luck !!! -
Over 100 pounds down...now questioning my marriage
pink dahlia replied to daveintx's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just curious, has your wife put forward any effort lose weight ?? Has she tried with no or little success ? Or has she not tried at all, despite your "mutual agreement " to get healthy ? I looked at your profile, no age listed, so I cant guess how old she is. The reason im asking is sometimes when metabolism slows due to age ( especially in women, often after age 30, look up "peri -menopause " ) it just becomes near impossible to lose weight at all !! Which is precisely why I had WLS !! One year of Weight Watchers and I lost 12 lbs. Thats it. No more. I you can , get her to have her thyroid checked, hormones too. My tests all came back normal (twice!) but I still couldn't lose weight and I was hungry ALL the time !! I know suspect a endocrine problem, we shall see after January when I plan on visiting a naturopath Dr. to help me with menopausal symptoms, etc. Good luck to you and her too !!! -
Where did you all lose weight from first?
pink dahlia replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost weight in my face first, the first compliment/question came at about 8 -10 weeks after WLS, 19 lbs down. I was also loosing everwhere else too, my jackets started getting too big, along with my jeans. 5 big garbage bags of clothes went bye bye about 4 months out ( fun !!! ) Shoes and rings got smaller too. Clothes shopping is ALOT of fun now !! I eventually slimmed down to a very nice figure, but for some reason this year ive lost my rear end !! Idk, age ? Muscle tone ? Oh well, I 'll take a slim, strong healthy body over anything else any day of the week ! Good luck !!! -
Great topic ! I learned that im glad I never made fun of obese people when I was a normal weight, because karma is a Bitch !!! Later, I was the same person , but trapped in a way too large body that couldn't loose weight on its own. I learned to be VERY grateful that WLS exists, and that I had an excellent Dr. , medical staff, , insurance coverage, and a very supportive husband and family !!! On the lighter side, I learned the joy of rediscovering a strong healthy body, a happier me, the mirror, nice looks from people who think I look attractive, size 8 skinny jeans, no more embarrassing / uncomfortable situations due to my weight...........oh , I could just go on, but basically just living a happy, healthy life with a stronger body !!!

Liquids as of 12/22 - WTH Am I Going to do at Christmas?
pink dahlia replied to Birdy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 2 weeks before Christmas 2011, I was on liquids before, during and after Christmas , and honestly didn't mind ! A big part of it was that I just wasn't hungry much ( recovering from surgery ) , but the other part was knowing that I was on an exciting journey to get me heathier , happier , and yes, thinner ! I was soooooo ready ! ! So, at Christmas I enjoyed my supportive extended family and Christmas itself, NOT the food . I was not able to see the same relatives until the following Mother's Day, they were thrilled with my 33 lb weight loss ! So was I !! Soooooo, just concentrate on what you CAN get , ( healthy and strong) , and dont dwell on what you can't get ! (Food, that willl still be there next year.....) it was soooo worth it !! ( down 80 ish lbs !!! ) Good luck !!! -
What's been your biggest post op realization about food
pink dahlia replied to Sophie74656's topic in Food and Nutrition
A surprise ? Finding out how little carbs I would want or need. Before WLS I loved pasta or a baked potato with butter , garlic and pepper. Mmmmmmmm. And bread ? Oh yeah, especially biscuts and cornbread, or garlic breadsticks all slathered with real butter. Now ? 2 or 3 bites, done. Satisfied. Shocking ! -
Yep, the part about fitting into places hits home for me, just to know on a daily basis that I fit comfortably into everything ! Chairs, the bed, an elevator, my yoga mat, a car seat, a doorway etc. Easy !! Skinny jeans , medium shirts and medum yoga pants ! You're right, it never gets old !!

Congratulations ! I hope you took pictures , lots of them !! Reason being , I had a similar situation 2 yrs ago. As a beginner runner one of my goals was to run a 2 mile loop through a certain campground ( google Fort Warden, Pt. Townsend, Washington if you're a history fan) I had been to many times. Luckily they sell postcards there of the fort grounds and I can see where I was able to run. Although I can no longer run due to a foot injury, those postcards are still where I can see them everyday to remind me of what I did, and what I can still do to keep myself healthy and strong. Huge motivator for me !! Congrats again, and keep up the good work !!

Old bestfriend Is back, and hes married..
pink dahlia replied to ZombieQueen's topic in The Gals' Room
Something I read somewhere just the other day..............."Yes, he might DESIRE you, but does he VALUE you ? " It was some story about a girl who bragged about how popular she was with men (Take that anyway you want ) and wasnt real shy about it either. The other person was a bit choosier about men , and while she appreciated men wanting her, she made sure they valued her first and foremost. I think this story applies to your very married (and a daddy !) friend. Just sayin '. -
Scared to finish the process
pink dahlia replied to cparni's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Although I was banded, ( not sleeved ) I think what you're feeling is completely normal. Change is scary !!! Everything is new, and overwhelming !! But if you look back at having your daughter, that was new and overwhelming too !!! And you did just fine, didnt you ?? Because you took it one day or one hour at a time. And then its not so scary , is it ? So there you go. You'll do just fine, and yes , if you can find a local support group, go !!! Lots of support and help. You will be soooo glad you had the WLS, my only regret is that I didnt do it sooner !! Good luck !! -

Has your Marriage Changed Since Surgery?
pink dahlia replied to Half of Bri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
P.S. today we went on a 4.5 mile nature walk in the cold snowy mountains. Not only was the walk a breeze (healthy , stronger body !) but before WLS it took 2 of us to get his wool hunting pants to button over my big tummy. Not a fun pictur, but he still loved me. Today, the same pants, over 2 prs of warm tights , were so big that they slid down on my hips., I looked like a dwarf in the circus ! Who needed a diaper change !! He called me a "hot mama " ..................but was even more impressed that I walked the distance and enjoyed it ! So, if your sweetie loves you now, imagine how much he'll love the new stronger healthier you !! -
Has your Marriage Changed Since Surgery?
pink dahlia replied to Half of Bri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Did my marriage change after WLS ? Yes and no. I was normal sized when we met ( 125 lbs) got married 5 yrs later , (143 lbs) and after our son , my weight slowly went up to 225. (Eeeek!) My hubby loves me through thick and thin, but yes he's much more attracted to me now that im normal weight again. But to me its not just about me looking more attractive, it's also because he sees (and brags !) about my exercise habits, and (fairly) healthy eating. I think im also happier , and that comes from within. So, I think being happier, healthier, stronger and fitter makes a person more attractive than the same person who is unhealthy and unhappy with themselves, no matter what their weight. Just my opinion, but there you have it. -
What can I do with...sweet peppers?
pink dahlia replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
My hubby loves this easy crockpot recipe from The Recipe Critic. Com for Stuffed Peppers . 15 min or less prep time, uses uncooked burger, uncle bens quick rice, etc , pop them in the crockpot on low, just check them an hour before the time it says to cook them as some crockpot s cook hotter than others . Enjoy ! -
Dont know whats up with your hubbys comments etc but...........Haven't tried this website much but Myfridgefood.com takes what ever you have in leftovers and gives you a recipe for it ! Less waste, less complaints ! Also, at my house I use a roll of cheap blue painters tape and a magic marker on the leftovers put in the tupperware every night, ( cooked chicken , 11-15-15 etc ), then store them in the right side of the fridge. I know the item and date, so, way less waste . Give it a try , or have hubby try it out for you !

Everything really is different now
pink dahlia replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I get it, and its so strange the complete turnaround involving food ! Before WLS I'd eat the whole plate of food and then some.(And think about dessert, but not ever order any......) This past Sunday at a good Golf Club restaurant ? 3 bites of delicious fish , 3 fries, 3 bites salad. Done. Packing up the meal, my hubby commented to the slightly wondering waitress, "she only eats a little bit at a time , so we'll take the rest home for later. " Totally . different. I'll take it !!
