Madly in love but holding back info

I agree its totally up to you on whether or not you tell him about your weight problems etc that are in the past. Its your relationship, not ours and you know whats best between you and your new sweetie. My only thought is that even though we have had bad experiences in our past, those experiences shaped us in one way or another. Hopefully this man has a big heart and will see you for the beautiful person you are, no matter what your weight was, a bad past relationship, or WLS that you had to get healthy. You'll know when the time to disclose info is and you'll find out what kind of person he is. ( speaking from experience......... and yes we've been through thick and thin together, 33 years and counting. ) Good luck !!!!

    Help...I fell off the wagon

Don't feel so bad , many of us have fallen off the wagon before too. I gained 10 lbs back over the winter because of a foot injury and baking way too much ! Sweets are my downfall !! But I 've lost the 10 and an additional 5 !! I just find that when Im full of protien, fruit and veggies, I dont crave the sweets as much. That , and adding in some exercise that I really like helped me drop the weight. Maybe you could try those ideas ?? Results = more motivation !! Good luck !!

    100 pounds down!

Wow ! You should be so proud of yourself !!!!!!! Great job !! Keep up the good work !!!
  4. Just out of curiosity, why did your weight go down to 110 ? I see your goal was 135, when you got there did you still feel like you were still too heavy ? Not trying to be nosy, im just wondering as Im the same height as you, medium boned , building some muscle back, age 57. Im at ( drum roll please !) 155 lbs , the lowest Ive been in 20 years (wheee !!!!) but would like to get to a healthier 140 lbs. Where do you think your healthy weight is ? And how does one regain it in a good way without returning to poor eating habits ? Your opinion ? Thanks !!

Please say it gets easier! :-(

Just my opinion, but yes, it does get much much easier. Remember, you have to go through each phase for a reason, and remind yourself they are temporary ,NOT forever. I was banded 2 weeks before Christmas, so I get your whole "cant eat like the others, etc. " But remember, the "others "didn't choose to have WLS, but you did to get healthy and strong ! So instead of trying to turn to food to deal with stress, try finding a non food hobby or something that makes you happy. We've all been in your shoes, so keeping a positive, '' I can do it !" attitude will get you alot farther than an "I can't have it " attitude . When your pants start getting loose and you start getting compliments, you'll know why it was sooooo worth it !! Good luck !!

    Nosey co-worker

Just my opinion, but all the above answers are right on the money ! Geesh, you should all be psychology majors !! I agree she is waaayyyyy out of line but I never thought about it coming from HER life. Great insight !! Tell her politely ONCE that you prefer to discuss any and all medical iseues with your Dr. , if she persist tell her you will report it to HR . Done deal hopefully. Good luck !!!
  7. Ms954jkwd, you had surgery a month ago and you're "depressed " because you've "only " lost 14 lbs ? Thats an average of just over 3 lbs a week !! You're doing great !!! Loosing too much too fast is not a healthy way to keep the weight off, so remember "slow and steady wins the race !" Good luck ! Keep it up !

    How is the attention?

I think it all comes down to self confidence, because no matter what anybodys weight is , if you dont feel good about yourself its very noticable. Some large women radiate self confidence and "own the room " and some small women can't make eye contact or talk to people. Years ago I met an average looking woman, about 5'6, not slim, a little heavy, average looks. But she was so outgoing and friendly ! I asked what she did job wise and she said "Im an entertainer on a cruise ship ! I get up on stage and belt out the tunes on the nightly shows !!! Wow !!! Talk about self confidence !! Sooooo, start putting a little extra effort into yourself and watch what happens !! Good luck !!
  9. Several incidents come to mind, all involving sweets (my drug of choice ) , how about eating a half of a large package of cookies in just an hr or 2 ? Or polishing off a pint of Ben and Jerrys New York Fudge Chunk ice cream ( my favorite, itz's like crack for me !) in 30 mins and wanting more ? Or getting a bag of Brachs candy mix ( bridge mix and maple nut goodies ! Oh my ! ) and eating the WHOLE bag in one sitting ? Geesh !!!!!!! Talk about a sugar addiction !!!!
  10. I bought one from Bed, Bath and Beyond a few months ago. It wasnt worth the $10-12 dollars that I paid. It was hard to get the simplest veggie to spiral. Just my opinion.

    Interventioned

Dont take his the wrong way, but when I was done laughing at your story, I just wanted to reach out and give you a big hug !!! The laugh was because I could just see your daughters giving you a stern lecture (s), and you going "but, but, but, but !!!!!! It's protein !!! It's healthy !!!!" like a whiny teenager !!! The hug was because you have been through so much and have done so well and you still have the abilty to see that you can still make healthy changes for your future and be an example for your very supportive daughters. Great job on EVERYTHING you've done, keep up the healthy changes ! You can do it !!!

    NSV

NSV's ??? Where do I start ? From the minute I wake up is the start of a NSV because no more sleep apnea ! Getting showered and nicely dressed is a pleasure , not a challenge because of my weight. Clothes look and fit waayyy better. All day, no more digestive issues, everything works normally. I enjoy talking to people because they are happy to talk to me, I think the self confidence comes through. I love my exercise classes ( swimming and Pilates ) because I can see and feel my body getting stronger and more toned. My pants are getting loose. Again. I can do everyday normal things wihout even thinking about it. Yep, EVERYDAY is a NSV for me !!!!
  13. You ask good questions !! Smart of you to do your research well and be comfortable with whatever you choose. I don't know about others on this forum, but my life is pretty normal with work, home, family things etc. I eat "normal " foods, just in smaller quantities, like protien, fruits and veggies. I eat lunch with co workers all the time and even those that dont know Im banded wouldn't notice anything different about my meals other than they're smaller sized. ( and I eat a little slower.) You know what else is smaller ? My whole body !!!!! And I have lots more energy ! And Im happier looking in the mirror!! EVERYBODYS life changed when they had WLS. For most of us , it changed for the better. Its been a win win from the very beginning. I dont have a single negative thing to say except I wish Id done it sooner. That is all. Good luck !!!

    Need to vent!

Yes it can be frustrating, but instead of looking at the scale, try looking at your body instead. Getting slimmer in places ? Feeling better ? Clothes getting looser ? The scale is NOT always your friend, sometimes you need to look at other ways to see how well you're doing. Congratulations on your hard work so far ! Keep it up !!!

To band or not to band?

I love my band. I cant imagine what my life would be like if I was still overweight. The daily 5% inconvenience of being banded is still better than the daily 100% inconvenience of being obese. Yes , I can feel my port slightly, yes I have to choose foods wisely, chew well, and drink lots of water. Yes I have to exercise 3-4 x a week. Yada yada yada..............but you know what else I get to do ? Have a strong , healthy body with energy to burn, shop for cute slim clothes, like what I see in the mirror, and do normal things without thinking twice about it. Again, I love my band !!
  16. I was banded 2 weeks before Christmas 2011, and yes I sat there with my broth and protein shake while my very supportive family ate dinner. But I honestly didn't mind as I knew I was on my way to better health. Since I followed my Dr.s rules as much as I could I started loosing weight immediately. I wasn't able to see my family again until Mothers Day, so imagine their shock when I showed up 30 lbs lighter than I had been at Christmas !!! Just listen to your Dr., and pretty soon you'll be so glad you did this ! Good luck !!

    LapBand and snacks

I always tried to follow my Dr.s rules, but I also listened to my body and what it was trying to tell me. If my stomach said it was hungry, I ate something healthy and moved on. Stomachs don't have the same clock as a Dr.s might , so I just tried to use common sense, eat healthy and keep my blood sugar up. Also if you're snacking on nuts twice a day that might be part if your problem. Nuts are good in protien but very high in fat and calories. Try googling high protein foods and choose something different but healthy. Good luck !

    Sad, and need guidance

Dont have the "too tight " problem, but you don't mention any exercise. What are you doing ? Any favorites ? Some class or activity you've been wanting to try ?? Spring is a good time to get outside for a walk in the evening or a bike ride , etc. Find something you enjoy and it won't feel like work ! Good luck !
  20. Yes, those kind of complements can just make your day better, can't they ? Thats when you think "my pants are a little snug , but who cares ? Not me ! " congrats !!

Is Food More or Less of an Issue Now?

Well, yes and no . I used to just randomly put food in my mouth because it was there. And I didn't always make the best choices. And I tried Weight Watchers. And I was hungry, ALOT. Now ? Food is less of an issue, I eat less and make much better choices. I learned to cook in the last year or so and have always loved grocery shopping , cooking shows and collecting cookbooks, so while I still think of food 24 /7 its more of a "what can I cook next ?" instead of "what can I shove in my mouth next ?" So, in answer to your question, yes and no.
  22. I was very unhappy with my weight struggles, but since a year on Weight Watchers got me almost no where, I thought I was stuck with the weight forever. Then a relative had the band done and I saw success ! So I started looking into it and after researching it I had it done and was successful too !! I just wish WLS was "advertised " more or suggested by more Doctors as a possible solution to weight loss. Until my relative had it , I had only vaguely seen it in magizines ads, but just kind of glossed over the soft advertising.

    A dream come true

Wow ! Great story, and you should be SO proud of yourself for everything you've accomplished !!! Yes , you had WLS but YOU'VE done all the hard work afterwards ! This trip sounds like a great "reward" for everything you've done for yourself and others on this forum. Have fun !!! ( and yes, I'm green with envy because I want to see England too !!)

    Cooking

First off, congratulations on your weight loss !! Great job !!! Second, you might want to rethink your cooking if you're only cooking for one. Instead of cooking and dirting pans and the kitchen every night, maybe try cooking several meals at once and then dividing them into individual servings and freezing them. Like djmohr said above , use a Foodsaver (Target, Walmart etc) or freezer safe bags. Saves you time, money and you only mess up the kitchen once. Try googling "cooking for 1 or 2 ". Keep up the good work !!!

    Question for the lady's!

I flew across the the U.S. last summer with no problems. Just drink lots of water and take some healthy snacks with you on the flight. Airports don't have the cheapest foods and you may not find alot that is band friendly for you. Maybe almonds, PB with crackers, dried fruit, a protien bar etc. Have fun !
