How much protein can you absorb at one time?
jb14075 replied to Elixaveth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take one of those 3 oz 42 g New Whey shots every day when I get out of the gym. -
I can't eat 2 eggs & I'm 3+ months out. I usually have 1 hard boiled egg white for breakfast & its all i can do to get that down.

Sleeping After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
jb14075 replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used several pillows to prop me up in a semi reclined position on the bed. I also slept on my back for the first few weeks (have always slept on my side). It was rough but after 2.5-3 weeks I could sleep on my right side & after another week or so I could sleep on the left. -
Don't worry its not going to fall out, you're gonna be amazed at how long it is when they pull it out. I showered every day after day 3 & never had an issue, just be real gentle around the drain/hole. Just be prepared it feels really weird/uncomfortable when they pull it out, doesn't really hurt but its really weird.

The drain was the absolute worst, not that it hurt bad but every time I moved I would feel a tug & it was impossible to get comfortable with it in. Nothing else really bothered me after the first few days but the drain drove me crazy until it came out. On the bright side, once the drain comes out it should be smooth sailing & the hole heals really fast.

When you started eating normal foods, how much?
jb14075 replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about 8 weeks out & would agree with the portion sizes that nurselisa listed. If you eat too much and/or too fast you'll know it because it hurts in a very uncomfortable sort of way. Take your time & eat slow & you will be able to tell when you are getting full much easier, when you eat fast it just hits you all of the sudden & its not a very nice place to be in. -
6 Months post op w/pics
jb14075 replied to kewlaid585's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats, you look fantastic. Thank you for the month by month breakdown, you & I seem to have started around the same weight & are looking to end up in the same area, very similar plans (lose some weight but also start building some serious muscle). I was just sleeved on 8/23 & am in that 1st 2 month stage where a lot of things can get you down, reading how that has improved for you (and seeing your results) was a huge inspiration, thank you! -
start of post op exercise
jb14075 replied to monty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was sleeved 8/23. At first I didn't do anything but walking & a few different stretches. At the end of 3 weeks my doctor told me I could go back to the gym & do whatever I felt like I could handle on the bike or elliptical but he told me to take it easy on the weights - if I couldn't do 30 reps then the weight was too high. The next week I went up in weight & down to 20 reps & now I am back to my regular routine (3 days lifting to build muscle & 2 days to burn fat + 9-12 mile/day on a bike). Crunches were a little hard at first but didn't have any issues with anything else. -
Another weightloss question
jb14075 replied to tamareta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you had your surgery on 9/2 you're only about 5.5 weeks out, right? So you have only lost a total of 6 lbs since your surgery? If thats the case something is definitely not right, you should have lost more than that before you even left the hospital. What diet have you been on, are you walking/exercising? Are you getting enough Protein & calories (if not your body will go into starvation mode & it will be nearly impossible to lose weight)? -
Getting protein from food
jb14075 replied to dramagirl28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They're not bad, they actually taste sugary but there is no sugar in them. IMO they are much easier to get down than the milk based shakes & you only need to take a 3.9 oz shot instead of a whole shake. They come in a few different flavors - grape, orange, fruit punch & berry (I prefer the fruit punch but haven't tried the berry flavor yet). I get them at GNC ---- New whey liquid Protein I get a box of 12 every 2 weeks add in a few bars here & there & it seems to be working pretty well so far. GNC also has a Gold Card that will save you a good bit of money if you decide to go with this. I think the card was like $15 for 1 year but it saves you $5-6 every time you buy 12 of these shots. -
Getting protein from food
jb14075 replied to dramagirl28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 7 weeks out & take a 3.9oz 42g New Whey protein shot everyday after I leave the gym. I stopped the shakes after surgery because anything milk based makes me nauseous now. I also eat a 20g or so protein bar every now & then. -
Starting stage 2 options neone??
jb14075 replied to Yesssweetness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hated the mushy stage, most of the foods were just disgusting (or I couldn't get past the thought of how disgusting something like pureed chicken sounded). I had 1 bite of mashed potatoes & my stomach hurt for what seemed liked hours, egg salad made me nauseous. Other than pureed peaches & cantaloupe I basically stayed on the liquid diet for another 10 days. -
Fighting for every pound....
jb14075 replied to Marie from Michigan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The closer you get to your goal the harder it is going to be, thats just the way it is. Its easier to lose when you are 100+lbs overweight .... not so much when you are 10 lbs over. Its going to be a daily fight from here on out (and even more so once you hit your goal to keep your weight there). Don't let yourself get disouraged, hang in there & stick with the plan. -
For me the gas pain in my left shoulder was worse than any of the stomach or incision related pain. I had a real hard time shaking the gas pain & even when it seemed to go away it would resurface in a day or 2. I fought with that for the better part of 2 weeks. The only other issue I have found is that even now I can't lay on my left side as it hurts pretty bad when I do.

Protein drinks bothering stomach
jb14075 replied to jillw8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since my last post on this thread I have found a 46 gram whey protein shot (3.9 oz) at GNC. Been drinking one of those a day. -
Protein drinks bothering stomach
jb14075 replied to jillw8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 18 days out & have the same problem. I mix whey shakes with fat free milk & can only tolerate a very small drink at a time. I've just been forcing myself to take small sips throughout the day, it eventually adds up. I'm also to the point where I can have pureed food but none of it other than cottage cheese or yogurt goes down very well.
