Secret Foods That Has Made Your Journey Easier?
horsegirl315 replied to okiekatt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
great ideas, everyone! some of my favorites: coconut almond milk by almond breeze--tastes amazing, good in a Protein shake, 60 cals for a cup when i dont want to make dinner--wendy's chili and a plain bkd potato--i can only eat half of the chili and potato, so filling, good amnt of protein chobani little champions greek yogurt in honey banana flavor--yes, its for kids. but it tastes soo good, and is only 100 calories. love to use it as a dip for strawberries Peanut Butter CHEERIOS--enough said. morningstar veggie crumbles--lots of protein, low on calories, good with skinny cow cheese shmeared on a pita and warmed in the micro shirataki fettucine "noodles" made from chic pea flour--40 cals for the 8 oz package silken tofu--add to a Protein Shake for more protein and a verrrry creamy texture! LOVE this stuff. -

Question For The Ladies
horsegirl315 replied to jesscaba's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought the same thing---but NO!!! Not okay, for me at least. I was so sore, even pulling pants up and down was quite a chore for about a week, never mind a tampon! If I can recommend anything to you, before surgery, get some overnight pads to come home to...and ask for some extra gauze-like panties to take home, they are sooooo stretchable! -
So I got my fill on Tuesday. The NP left it up to me if I wanted a full cc, because it would bring me up to 4cc, which was too much last time, according to the stupid nasty barium. Well of course, I went with the full cc. Don't know until you try. So I am now at 4cc in my band. She was able to get the needle right in the port, and the rest of my day was just dandy! I just started on "real" food today--and even then, I'm a little early, supposed to be on mushies til tomorrow. I wasn't really hungry all day, had an iced coffee this morning, had some crystal light for lunch--busy day at work lol. Tonight got chili and a baked potato from wendy's and could.not.finish.it! I ate half and I'm still full-2 hrs later. This is good! This is great! I'm feeling better and definitely feel like I have more control than I had. It can only get better!

KIM! Your coffee drink sounds amaaaaaazing!!!!! I will have to try that!! I love me some coffee...and the people in my life like for me to drink it-I'm so much more pleasant! EDIT: have you tried cold brewed coffee for iced coffee? You mix some grounds into cold Water, leave it in the fridge for 12 hrs, strain through cheesecloth or filters, and voila! The best tasting iced coffee you will ever have!

Banded On 4-4-12 & I'm Already
horsegirl315 replied to chiixchii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CONGRATS!! I was banded Jan 30 and it took me about a month or so until the port pain went away...just don't hang out with any funny people, cause if they make you laugh, you'll soon be crying from port pain!! -
Sounds like my first fill. I go for my second tomorrow...give me a fill over dental work ANY DAY!!!

Also, I have a question for everyone...like amica said, for some reason the drs don't like to give us a certain amnt of calories. My dietician says 60-80 grams protein, and everything I eat should be under 5 grams fat and 5 grams of sugar...unless its natural sugar. I guess that's why I feel so down on myself sometimes, because I'm sorry, that's just not possible for me. That's worse than any diet I've ever done. So I feel like its a goal I can't achieve, which is probably why I feel like I suck at life right now. Does anyone have a recommended diet like that?

Interesting!!! I am around 1200 cals too, and boy am I hungry!!!! I don't eat breakfast, just have coffee...and I don't eat til about 12-1 pm. After lunch, I begin to get hungry. Head hunger mostly. I almost feel like once I eat, it sets me off for the rest of the day. Then I can't stop thinking about food!!! What a battle :-/ if I'm out and about its not half as bad. I can't wait for my fill tomorrow, but I am very interested to see after that, if I allow myself to go over my calories, say by 200-300 cals but make sure what I eat is very protein dense, what will happen. What is you plan for upping your protein?

Chrissy, I'm with you too, I want to lose 5 lbs in the 2.5 weeks left til your bday. I have a fill tomorrow, finally. This should get me under 230...hopefully. right now I fluctuate between 234-232. My last fill I was 237, which was a month ago :-/ I was telling Meredith earlier, I have been slowly creeping back to old habits I said I wouldn't do when I got the surgery. I think I need to take a step back and remember, this was major surgery, not just another fad or failed attempt. this is for life, and I need to step it up. I did better with logging calories and drinking water last week, and did exercise a few times...but then yesterday was Easter so...yeah. I def didn't eat as much as I would have so, small victories I guess !

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't been posting, I don't go on lbt at work and work is all I so these days it seems. I have been keeping up with all the emails I get with each posting. I think the goals are a great idea, and we should keep them going! For this week, I will log every single morsel of food that I eat. I'm also go to try to keep my fat and protein levels at acceptable amounts. My current battle is water consumption...I've been drinking 64 oz a day for a few days. Also trying to exercise at least 3 times this week...one day down today! Cant wait for my fill on Apr 10th!

Hello everyone! Sounds like everyone has been doing so well! I'm stuck at a plateau right now and have been having a very hard time with motivation. I've been hungry and lazy, and don't like this feeling at all. I feel like I'm slipping into my old ways, and I've been feeling really useless over thr whole thing. I haven't been walking at night, for the past week or two. I was doing it and enjoying it, but it seems as if i can never stick with anything I ever do. I have been eating less, I suppose, than I was before, I do count calories and have been much closer to my target calories for thr day than before. Before I was so far under. Now I go right to the last calories and sometimes over. Since i lost 30 lbs, myfitnesspal has downgraded my calories for the day too, which sucks. I can't wait for my next fill, I feel so hopeless right now I know I can turn it around, but I feel like I'm running out of willpower

Female Post Ops That Had Surgery At 280-260 Can You Give Me Your Numbers?
horsegirl315 replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Banded Jan 30, by month one I was down about 20 lbs, and approaching month 2 with a total loss of about 30. I count calories and exercise 3-4 times a week....3 of the times consist of walking for about 60-90 mins, and once a week I get on the treadmill and run, try to keep it at 10-12 min/mile pace as long as I can stand it, take awalk break, then back to running. I love the challenge it gives me! I have had one fill so far, 3 cc in a 10 cc band...going back for another fill April 10. Good luck to you! -
For the first yr, you should protect your scars from harmful uv rays...if you wanna go tanning, just put a thick coating of 70 or higher spf on your incisions....if you do that, I say go for it, everyone looks thinner with a tan
-
Have you tried tracking calories? That's what I do to keep myself in check. I was banded Jan30 and have lost about 30 lbs since then, but it has not been bc of the band! It has been self control and fear of eating too much...so I guess some of it is the band, then I have had one fill of 3 cc in a 10 cc band...looking forward to my next one for sure!

I havent actually gotten "stuck" per se....but have had a few times (im a slow learner) where a triscuit went down reaaaaaal slow and i felt like i was having a heart attack/choking/dying/nausea....but it gurgled its way down....scarrrrry and I dont wish for the real thing to happen...ever!

Jayeedee--I am so sorry you were treated so badly. You are so right, you have the right to know what's in your body, and why the heck wouldnt you wanna know how much is in your band?! And why wouldn't they tell you? Rude. But Congrats on your weight loss,11 lbs in 5 weeks is 2 lbs a week, which is the pattern we should be losing weight by...so they can stick it. Rockonhan-good luck with the carbs, they are my beast!! Meredith--you know I love my FitBit too!!! I have hit my 30 lb lost mark, but had a night out, so am up a few, but I'm in it for the long haul!

24 lbs down and got my first fill (4cc) and unfill (1cc) for a total of 3ccs in my band, today! One more day of liquids and two of purees, then back to real foods!
-
Ok, so the fill was...interesting. the np had a really hard time finding the right spot in the port to access the saline. It took her about ten minutes and a lot of pushing our my stomach, holding myself in a sit up position, and arms above my head...finally, she said, ok I'm in. So she gave me four ccs...WOOHOO!! had to leave the drs office and go over to the hospital, about five mine away, to do the Barium swallow. Yuck. The Barium was stuck in my pouch and after about 30 seconds, not only was it stuck, but I thought I felt reflux, which was confirmed by the Dr. He said too tight, so off I went back to the surgeons office...unfilled 1cc (after searching for the port site again) so now I have 3ccs in my band, which I am very satisfied with, I am so glad they seem to be a little agressive with the fills, I have an appt for another fill which will be 1cc in a month. I wish all surgeons did the fills like Meredith's, I would imagine its probably easier for the person doing the fill as well. Plus, you know for sure that you are filled at the right amnt. Now I have to wait and see if the remaining 3ccs give me trouble. Today is day one of liquids...then liquids tomorrow and puree two days after...at least this should help with my weight loss plateau!!

I haven't had a fill yet, but I can already tell that tuna and I are not gonna be friends....had a few semi.stuck episodes that I Di kit wish to repeat. Holly, I love the chicken in the can, haven't had it in a while, I will try it soon!

Hi ladies! I have my first fill tomorrow, and am currently 24.4 lbs down since surgery (no pre op) I enjoyed a day of healthy eating today, and a lovely 90 min walk by the water. I do find myself mourning over yet again being on liquids for 2 days then mushies for 2 days after that. My first day back to eating normal includes going to a friends tasting party...good Lord. At least I have my sister going wig me, as my supporter, as on one else at the party will know about my surgery...but I will look fab in whatever I choose to wear! I'm nervous about the fill...has anyone found it to hurt? I'm a pro at getting blood taken, so I'm hoping its similar...also looking forward to finding out if there is any saline in my band now...I kind of think there is only bc I have gotten "semi" stuck a few times...a few times on tuna on a triscuit, and a few other items, such as baby carrots. I'm not sure if it is really considered "stuck" because after a few mins, it goes down. But in those few mins, my heart races and I enter panic mode with chest tightness. Has anyone had this??;
