Banterwonder replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in The Lounge
I like watching, 'My 600-Pound Life". Very obese people traveling to Texas for WLS. Very moving and inspirational. -
Peanut butter out of the jar is a trigger food and I have gotten mildly stuck from it. I LOVE PB2 however and put that in my protein shakes!

Banterwonder replied to happyloser13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Have not had carbonated drinks in over a year. But on New Year's Eve , I am planning on a small sip in between lots of hugs and kisses !!!!!

I had similar symptoms as yours except the near-vomiting and coughing was keeping me awake. I was not able to eat and then swallowing even water became an issue. MD met me at ER , they gave me IV Nexium(WOW- instant relief!), removed fluid from my band and I was a happy bandster again. MD put me on Nexium every day and I followed up in 2 weeks and he put the fluid back in....

Nervous about life after the band
Banterwonder replied to paigemomma's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree with the above. As with anything, message boards can be helpful or horrible. Be selective , share and always follow your doctor's orders. Also, remember in those weight loss commercials, "results not typical".... that really applies well to weight loss surgery as well! -
Smaller stomach, less food needed. Great question because from years of dieting, my mantra was, " eat to lose, your body needs fuel, if you don't eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode"..... I still struggle.

WATCHING THE BIGGEST LOSER
Banterwonder replied to MsRhonda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MsRhonda:You might want to use punctuation and spell-check. I think you might have some good points or at least interesting ideas. But it is hard to tell. -
Just reading your post about being hospitalized and some of your other posts relating to this topic. Sorry about all your troubles. Pardon this question , but were you constipated? You related the CT scan results which it sounds like was normal, just air in your colon. But then you say they gave you enemas and suppositories. In another post you said something about laxatives and metamucil and your health care provider not recommending that you take them, but that you were going to take them anyway(?!).... not sure if any of that is related to the rudeness of your doctor ? I had an episode of constipation a bit ago and MD recommended colace(stool softener) and watching that my fluid and fiber intake was up to par. It wasn't and I changed that and have been fine since. MD and nutritionist said that with the increased protein often comes constipation... another lesson learned... just wish it wasn't so darn hard, no pun intended.

What did he say that upset you?

Lapband failure / waste of time and money
Banterwonder replied to tmurphy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hear your frustration.... I eat protein first, small bites, well-chewed. I sometimes take a bite of whole wheat pasta, just a bite, again well-chewed. Mashed sweet potatoes well-, chewed also. No bread, unless whole wheat , toasted. Measure your portions, write down, log every bite, no empty calories. Get a copy of Jean Mc Millan's book, "Bandwagon"-- excellent resource!!!! She also has a great accompanying cookbook.Get both, she has a deal when you buy both. Sounds like you may be relying on slider foods, hence no weight loss. Also, if you drink while you eat you are defeating the purpose of the band. Find a support group and supportive people. Find a doctor who is more supportive. Does your MD have a nutritionist on staff? Worth finding one if not. -
Officially can no longer shop the "Just My Size " store !!!!!!! They are no longer my size !yeah!!!!!!

2 Great NSVs, new image of ourselves
Banterwonder posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1.The deli manager whose store I have frequented for many years, did a triple take yesterday! He said he almost did not recognize me !. Until I placed my regular order ! Made me smile and feel great all week long ! 2. I was talking to a colleague who I speak to about once every 2 weeks. As we were chatting, I realized that she didn't know who she was talking to !!! She said she didn't recognize me until she heard my voice! I think sometimes we cannot see our "new " selves. -
I LOVE the idea of adding a pat of butter to my egg to slow down hair loss. I took biotin and watched my protein intake and it seems to have slowed down the loss. I was banded early this year.

My surgeon recommended that in December to be easy on myself as far as eating , drinking, exercise and all the obligations that come with this time of year. It is good advice. I was banded about a year ago, have had a few ups and downs, but generally all good. Look at your progess and try to do some relaxng things just for you ! i taught my kids to bake the Christmas cookies ! Fantastic... and we cut back on how many we bake. I had them choose their favorites.and it worked out great. Then we got them out of the house as fast as possible. From my sooooo many years of being on weight watchers, I did learn an important Christmas, New Years lesson. Look at the holiday as a DAY... it is not a monthlong feast. Helpful to keep in mind. Pick and cjhoose your favorites foods and sweets and give yourself some wiggle room!

Let's set the record straight...
Banterwonder replied to FLORIDAYS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great p[ost! I had a similar experience with a brownie the other day.... In the pre-band days, I would have eaten a brownie that was 1/4 of the 8 inch square pan..... but this day, I had 2 bites of a normal portion and was happy ! Also in my PCP's office, they had a LOT of sweets deliverd from vendors.... they offered me a cookie and I politely refused.... what a great feeling! -
Finally My Ahahah Moment!!! Any Advice???
Banterwonder replied to ktsped's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I get sabra hummas in the snack size containers with the little container of pretzel thins attached. Sometimes I eat the thins, sometimes not. Always remember to chew chew chew. I also got myself a bunch of those little colorful 1/2 cup plastic containers. They just make it so much easier to portion out foods like egg salad, tuna salad and cottage cheese.Plus, I use therm for a portion of veggies as well. I have a few Bento -type lunch boxes. They have portion size containers and they are very cute. Cuteness counts a lot for me ! Silly but fun. -
