Congratulations on your size shopping success! I also went to a size 14 from nearly being a 24 !I tried on many pants and sent a few mail ordered ones back. It was a great feeling to write on the return labe, " too big" ! I never thought that would happen! I have found it a bit hard to go from shopping in Lane Bryant to Old Navy or the Misses section in the department stores ! But, it is a great feeling. Now I am using my 2xl and 3 xl tee shirts as sleep shirts.... but I am looking at some cute and more pretty sleep clothes in a smaller size. Whoopee !

I was banded early this year. Hair loss was worst in last 3 months. Took Biotin, multiviatamins, and watched to get 60 grams protein. Now, hair loss slowing down. Also hairdresser recommended a strenghtening shampoo and conditioner.

Anyone else nave the post op pity party?
Banterwonder replied to finallytime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets better as you start to lose. Now, you are newly post-op. Your body has been traumatized. I set a time limit for the crying jags and small pity parties. In the beginning, I would give myself an hour to feel sorry, beat myself up. Then as the weeks went back, I cut it to a 1/2 hour, then 15 minutes and then , finally to 5 minutes. As I lost weight, I began to see a new and better me and that made me more joyful. Also, I could look back and see how miserable I was . Now I can make lists of the new things I can do and experience. It hgelps me to not look back and start the pity stuff again. Hang in there, work on the new you, think of yourself as a blank slate for improvement. -
Food Cravings......
Banterwonder replied to Kelligh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the "fear factor" related to wanting to over-eat! Also love" wantpower". I think wantpower and willpower can go hand in hand toward weight loss after banding. And add the fear of blockage, PB'ing , sliming, general embarassment, and possibly band slippage.... -
I was banded about a year ago. 2 months ago , I started with the most awful night-time reflux. Felt like I was burning my esophagus and my new little stomach. Called surgeon, sent me to ER. They gave me IV Nexium.... oooohhhh felt so good! Did x-rays to check band. Removed a small amount of fluid from band, 1/4 cc.( Surgeon put me on daily Nexium). Almost instant relief...... drank some water, soft foods for 24 hours and then saw surgeon in 2 weeks . He put the 1/4 cc back in. Since then, fine and still losing weight at a good pace. I was afraid of band slippage or that the burning would damage my stomach so I was happy to take care of the situation right away...

Calories count more than protein for weight loss
Banterwonder replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have this on my list of questions for my next nutritionist visit. I do try to eat protein first . And I still try for 60 grams of protein in a day. I am almost 1 year post-banding. Hair loss has lessened. Not sure it was from protein intake and/or taking Biotin. -
Over hungry before realizing it?
Banterwonder replied to Kime-lou's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This has happened to me once or twice. The first time, I was busy and didn't feel hungry( !, a new feeling!) Then when I realized I was hungry, I couldn't decide what to eat. So, I went to my standby tuna sald wrap and ate about 1/4 of the salad only, not the wrap. I now do carry a protein bar and water with me. I have now become one of those people who carry a water bottle with them wherever I go! I have found myself becoming dehydrated several times and this causes me to find it hard to take solid food. I learn something new evry day! -

Takeaway Addiction Obviously Pre Op
Banterwonder replied to IndiaRose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh yes, the fast food, take away, ordering in, doughnuts for breakfast, mindless eating, huge portions, emotional eating, cheap, high fat foods, low nutritional value..... all that and more helped me get to the highest weight ever. But, now, after banding, my outlook about food and nutrition has changed significantly. Honestly, food is no longer such a focus. Now, I think more about the quality of the food. A great turn around for my brain mostly ! -
I got to " Onederland " before Thanksgiving . It is a great feeling. Congratulations.

Pancake cravings got the better of me one bad day.... but after that, I learned.Still carve them though. I can have a sandwich(1/2), on a slice of toasted higher protein bread. I start that way and sometimes just give up and eat the meat or fish on the sandwich without the bread. Bagels are a no-no for me, but I still love them and will sometimes nibble on an eighth of one with a bit of cream cheese and lox. But, it has to be a high quality great bagel ! Since being banded, I have become VERY picky about my choices! I call it "High Standards of Eating " ! Makes me chuckle !

Remind Me Again - Why No Liquids?
Banterwonder replied to sman342's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most surgeons recommend that a banded person can drink up until solid food intake. No liquids during solid food meals as the liquid will cause the solids to pass through your pouch more quickly( essentially creating "sliders" out of your solid food. The outcome may be that you eat more because the solids are sliding through and you do not feel full. Same reason for no liquids for some time period after the solid food meal. My surgeon recommends 30 minute wait after solid food. -
Why are you getting blisters on your tongue? It sounds like you may have a more serious problem other than not knowing that you should not have carbonated beverages after being banded. Did your doctor/surgeon/nutritionist review what your post-op diet progression should be?

I Really Dont Get It. Very Disappointed.
Banterwonder replied to jbaker5d's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I track food and exercise using "Lose It". It is great, and I also keep a journal of sorts for the non-food, emotional, band-related stuff that goes on day to day. It is helpful to have these both to look back on. Also helpful when I go to a MD appointment for a check-up , fill, or un-fill. I can ask questions and answer the MD questions based on my journals. -
In Need Of Help With What To Eat
Banterwonder replied to Doreen14's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is excellent ! I use it on finely chopped, well-cooked spinach and broccoli. I make meatballs and use the Unjury cheese sauce as a dipping sauce. I also use it on orzo pasta to make a mac and cheese. They have started shipping it again in october. They don't ship in the warm months. Try it ! -

I'm Not Working Well With My Band. It's All In My Head....
Banterwonder replied to BreBre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suggest getting copies of Jean McMillan's books, " Bandwagon" and the cookbook. They are both great. Bandwagon has become my bible and I have just started using the cookbook. Great guides. -

If you were losing 1-2 pounds per day for " a couple of months", that would be around 60 pounds ? Doctor who sees you for two visits in the same week and then says go away , you have no insurance?Something is not right? Were you self-pay? If you paid everything up front, what was the aftercare supposed to be/cover? Aftercare is so important. Wouldn't you be considered an emergency surgery? If this is a blockage? Doesn't this hospital have other surgeons? I think there is something else going on in this very bizarre situation.

stationary bike is your best bet after knee replacement surgery.

Not quite sure where " people insist on telling you the same thing over and over while ignoring your previous response to the issue".... You posted that your band was" sliding". This is a sign of a serious complication. If you wake up with a migraine and can't swallow your medication, get a liquid painkiller. From your statistics, it looks like you are an "experienced bandster", so the issue of band "sliding " and not being able to swallow pills at this point is surprising. Sounds like you might need an "un-fill". If you are waiting until 4PM to be able to swallow solids, that is a problem.

I feel tight in the morning and usually have hot tea and or a protein drink. Then later in the morning., real breakfast.Sounds like stree.

At first glance, I thought the title of your post was, "Never expect failure", which is a great title and great words to live by. Then I figured you meant to say "Never accept failure". Again , a great philosophy. You made my brain work and made me think this beautiful morning and I thank you !
