Pickles/relish - When Can I Have?
Crississippi replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vlasic makes sugar free relish, sweet gerkins, and bread and butter pickles that are 0 calories. I have been using all of them since I started the mushie stage and haven't had any problems. They are great for the crunch factTor too. -
Starbucks/ Panera Suggestions
Crississippi replied to susiegotsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At Starbucks I have a skinny venti cinnamon dolce latte. It has 160 calories and 15 grams of protein or I have a venti calm tea with half steamed fat free milk. That one is 110 calories and 11 protein. -
Has Anyone Else Never Thrown Up?
Crississippi replied to traceyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
7 weeks out today and only threw up once...vitamins on an empty sleeve. I must have a steel bucket of a sleeve because I can eat anything! I get a very clear full signal even though I do still tend to eat fast (bad habit that I really need to break, lol). -
What Do You Track?
Crississippi replied to Back~To~Amy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I track calories, protein and water. I find that if I stick to a 10 calorie/ 1 protein ratio my carbs stay in line around 20-50 per day (usually higher if I eat more than 1 Greek yogurt in a day). -
Pain Left Side Under Rib
Crississippi replied to jwelk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 5 weeks out now and didn't start to get the discomfort under my ribcage until around the 2-3 week mark when I was back to my normal routine. My doc said it was normal and it really only lasted about 10 days. He said that if I felt ok in the morning when I woke up and I got sore as the day progressed that it was just me working the muscles in the area he had to muck around in to get to the stomach and it should clear up in a few days. If it is really bad though, I would say that you need to call your surgeon just to make sure everything is normal. -
Has Anyone Had A Bariatric Surgeon Refuse To See You?
Crississippi replied to babybig's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many doctors will not see anothers patients because any complications that may arise from your surgery go on the new doctors record. For instance, if you have a leak, the new doctor records that they treated a leak and it is classed as a complication and it is now included in their statics. They help clean up a mess and end up the one with a ding on their record. I can't blame them for not taking a patient that had their surgery elsewhere. -
I had my 4 week post op on Wednesday and my doc said pulls were ok now and that Tylenol PM would be fine. I was more excited to hear I could take a laxative pill though. ;0)

Cramps From Hell And 3 Week Stall.... Bleh :(
Crississippi replied to sabrina140's topic in The Gals' Room
Oh my! I can't believe they made you have the Mirena taken out!! I got to keep mine thank goodness. I got my period the day of surgery on 2/9. It lasted 6 days. Got it again a week later and I started tonight as well. My cramps have been pretty minimal. Normally they are pretty horrible, even with the iud. Things go wonky after surgery...it usually takes a few months to regulate again so I would say to relax since it isn't permanent. At least that is what I keep telling myself. ;0) Easier said than done though, right? -
Bowel Movement, There I Said It
Crississippi replied to Iliana82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same boat, but this is the 1st time in my life I have ever had this problem. I honestly don't know how people with this problem often are able to stay sane! It has been 5 days for me now and I even gained a pound (I suspect the poop is the culprit ;0) ). I haven't found anything yet that works. I am going to call my doc tomorrow and see what he recommends. I'll post back if he has info that hasn't already been posted. -
Afraid I Wont Get In Enough Protein.
Crississippi replied to vampsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was almost ready tO post my own topic for this! Lol I was able to move on to puréed food today and I was terrified. I am 2 weeks post op and I can say I haven't been able to get everything in either. I think most people can't at this stage and it is important to do the best you can as you can. Some days will be easier than others and those are the days you have to make it count. I was only able to get in about 2 oz of applesauce myself tonight. One trick I've learned is to freeze my Protein shakes...it seems to go down a little easier as a slushie than a liquid. Sorry I'm not much help, but I can commiserate. :0) -
Gingerale Substitutes? Help!
Crississippi replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may get my head chomped for this, but maybe diet ginger ale that you let go flat? No calories and no bubbles. I have a friend that had the bypass and that is how she gets through an upset tummy. Best of luck to you. -
Discomfort After Food Or Drink
Crississippi replied to koriswlj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 8 days ago and I had the same tightness with Water and tea and I could only take baby sips. Out of the blue, it cleared up a lot yesterday...I am able to drink almost normally now and only have a little tightness after I have a "meal" of strained creamed Soups. It does get better and may only take a couple more days of healing to make a huge difference. :0) -
2 Days Post Opp Questions & Concerns
Crississippi replied to Tshaunda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is tomorrow and I will be leaving the hospital with a script for 10 shots of lovenox (sp?). I already called my insurance and it will be close to $400 as well. Thank god for flex spending accounts. If your dr's office is close, maybe they will let you come to the office for your daily shots and you will only have to cover the co-pay? Wouldn't hurt to ask. Good luck! -
Hello all! I just had a quick question about the magnesium citrate we have to take the day before surgery to clean us out. How long does it take to start "working" and how long did it keep going after it started? I have a lot I want to get done tomorrow and I am trying to plan on how long I might have to tether myself to the bathroom before I can clean it. Thanks!

Magnesium Citrate
Crississippi replied to Crississippi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good deal. This may be an odd question, but did you see any weight loss with it? The pharmacist said it could be 2-4 lbs depending on what is cleaned out. I have already dropped 19 during the liquid pre-op and to lose over 20 would be amazing! Lol -
Bariatric Advantage And Vitamins...
Crississippi replied to sabrina140's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you buy the bariatric advantage with a 90 day supply, it really isn't much worse than buying the store brands because sometimes you have to use more to get the same dose. If you go through bariatric choice dot com you get free shipping and % discounts off your total purchase. When I did the math, it was actually cheaper to just get the bariatric vitamins. -
What Kitchen Things Do I Need To Be Successful After Surgery?
Crississippi replied to vanb0052's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the cusinart version of the magic bullet...the travel cups are more car friendly and I love the thing. I would also pick up a food scale. Good luck! -

Protein Powder Overload...!which Is The Right/best/good One To Use
Crississippi replied to HeatherF's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in love with the Isopure no carb bottled waters. They come in about 12 different fruit flavor and are ready-made. You can get them at gnc or online. They are pricey ($45 for a case of 12) but worth the price...40 protein in one 20oz bottle! -

My Lap Band Was Removed After 2 Weeks...
Crississippi replied to Myturn12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have to agree with humming bird...something sounds off. If there Is even a hint of a rejection, no Dr. in their right mind would try it again, they would recommend another procedure. Sounds like he is trying to cover something up and is trying to avoid refunding you or dealing with a lawsuit. You should really get a copy of all of your records from the surgeon and get a second opinion from another surgeon that is not a part of the same practice. Best of luck to you! -
Gotta Quit Smoking...
Crississippi replied to KathyOfAlabama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Um…no. OCD is a disorder. Some people with OCD smoke. That is where the relation ends. Smoking is addictive and that is why it is so difficult for most people to give it up. Did you think that the poster might not want to quit forever…maybe they just want to do what they need to do for surgery? I agree, you need to really want to quit in order to do so permanently and IMO, sanctimonious down-talking is not really a good motivator. You quit 6 years ago? Great!! You could have really been helpful by telling the OP how you did it instead of preaching. -
Gotta Quit Smoking...

I just quit last week. I am using an electronic cigarette for the tactile cravings...there are different nicotine strengths you can get. I am using the 0% right now. -
Who Are You Telling About Your Lap Band Surgery?
Crississippi replied to roxeyk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I apologize...I was typing from my phone and it kept sending the post before I was ready...if a mod could delete the previous posts. Anyhoo...I understand that you wouldn't want to tell co-workers and people that you don't know well, but it is also important to remember how important a support system is during this journey. I am on the fence about how many people to tell as well, but I also want to be able to go to social gatherings and family events and not have to explain why I am eating so little (and to avoid offending the hosts, lol). As long as you are selective I think you would be suprised how many people will encourage and help you along the way. :0)
