Hi all, I had my sleeve done 9 days ago and feel brilliant. I have just been reading the info supplied by my surgeon and it occurred to me that there is no clear info on the time that we are at risk of a leak. Does anyone know if this is a short term risk or something we are always going to be at risk of. I would really appreciate feedback on this one... Many thanks, Fiona

Would Love A Gastric Sleeve Surgery Mentor

Hi Chrissy... I am on day 2 of pureed and to be honest, I've not had a single problem... getting the band out has been the best decision I have made. I know a lot of people have some nausea when they first start eating again... I've had nothing. I am also able to swallow my anti acid tablets and vitamins ( which are the size of horse pills!!) without any difficulty at all. I am back in for my first day in work tomorrow (boo hoo) but so lucky to be feeling so good.. You have had your band a long time... don't know how you coped for all that time.. Take care CHrissy and best wishes.., Fiona -

Would Love A Gastric Sleeve Surgery Mentor
FionaB replied to mrsdean4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Kacey... I don't know I'm in a position to mentor being only 9 days post op myself. Though I have lived through the bariatric regime and restriction for 5 years as with a band. I am so excited for my future and I'm sure you too will be feeling that. Any help I can give, please just give me a shout and it's so nice to make new friends who share experiences. Best wishes Kacey and keep in touch, Fiona x -

8days Post Gastric Sleeve Op
FionaB replied to Cheekychapuk's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know the feeling. Well I know I shouldn't of, but I drove 4 days after my op. I needed to get to Heysham to get my car back on the ferry home to the isle of man. I had my first proper day out yesterday, drove into town, done a bit of shopping and spent an hour in local pub.. Life sure felt normal again. -
8days Post Gastric Sleeve Op

Hi, i had my sleeve done at the spire Manchester hospital on the 12th Nov and my experience so far is very similar to yours. Within a few hours , I was up and about around the hospital garden, good nights sleep and then home. I was so so expecting to have more pain than I actually did. Now just lookin forwardbto the future. Nice to come across other uk members... Best wishes, Fiona -
Officially Unbanded And Totally Sleeved!
FionaB replied to lml32937's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations, I had band out and sleeve 8 days ago and consider myself very lucky, I have had worse pain from an abcess I had on my tooth. Although I had many problems with my band, it has given me the experience of living with a restricted diet. So happy to now face a future where I am not depending on how well my band is functioning.. Best wishes for the future, Fiona -
I need some advice about the protien..help!!!
FionaB replied to LeLe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Le Le, I am 4 days post op and can lie on my right side but not left. I spent a fortune on whey protien powder prior to surgery. Needn't have bothered as the nutritionist said milk was every bit as good and that at this point, taking in enough liquid is priority. Fortunately, I like milk and am having no problem getting enough to drink. Every day is a step to feeling 100% so the very best wishes... Fiona x -
Off To The Hospital!
FionaB replied to Living again 11/17/2011's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Rachel, by the time you read this, you will probably be on your road to recovery. I am 4 days post op and can't believe how well I have come through this. Stay positive and remember, you are never going to weigh what you do today. How magic is that. Very best wishes, Fiona x -
Hi coops... Well I almost shouted stop as the anesthetic went in. Boy am I glad I didn't! Can't believe how well Ihave come through it. Been back in my room for 9 hours and well up and walking about. I've not had any real bad pain and hope this is a sign of things to come. There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of people had the sleeve in Uk? I had mine done in the Spire Manchester by the brilliant PRofessor Ammori. Where did you have yours done? Best wishes.. Fiona

Hi everyone... Due to have my surgery in 36 hours!!! So useful reading all of your stories. Hope I have a good one to share soon. Bye bye lap band x

Hi Hunydew2262... You can't get any WLS covered by insurance here. Some people with the highest of BMIs can get it paid for on the NHS but they are few and far between! So far, I have paid £7000 for lap band, £ 5000 on 2 repairs and now getting band out and sleeve at a cost of £8500. I'm so bloody frightened right now... Got 6 hours to go!!!

Thank you.. Hope to catch up with you soon ... Knowing that others are starting on the same journey is such a comfort!
