That is why I did not tell anyone.. People love to hate.... -
Hello, I have an interesting problem. I currently see a nurse practitioner for my annual check-ups and arthritis medication. When I began exploring the idea of weight loss surgery, etc. I brought it up to her and she was not supportive at all. She said to drink slimfast an exercise. So I began seeing a different doctor and he helped me with my journey. I seen him for close to two years and he helped me through the process of preparation, paperwork, etc. The only thing he did for me was help me with that one area of my life where my nurse practitioner would not. I do not see that doctor anymore as he has moved and does not practice here anymore. I still see my nurse practitioner and recently I went in for my annual physical and had blood work done. Well she called me today and apparently my hemoglobin is 9 and it should be 12 and I am anemic. She thinks i may be bleeding somewhere. She is setting me up for an upper GI and a colonioscapy (sp) Well here is where it gets tricky - She does not know I had the lap band surgery. I have never had any problems, etc. and she is going to find out now that I need to have these tests done. I do not think my issues are band related as I have never had any issues with my band, etc. but I have had more reflux than normal lately. I do not know why I never told her - I guess because she never was interested in helping me with my weight loss issues. I have contacted my surgeon and made an appointment to speak with him regarding the results from the blood work, etc. So how do I tell her about my band? Banded in Bear Lake

Problem
Banded in Bear Lake replied to Banded in Bear Lake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you Bandista, that is a different take on it. I was thinking she would be upset for not being in the loop and seeing another physician. I did not look at it for the aspect of feeling better and all the benefits that have happened since i was banded. Maybe (hopefully) she will feel glad instead of the reaction I was expecting. I have osteoarthritis so I take one pill (mobic) a day (so far). Thank you again Banded in Bear Lake -

Problem
Banded in Bear Lake replied to Banded in Bear Lake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. I feel better about the situation. I have not told many people about being banded as I do not want to deal with being judged. I was not taking Iron supplements, which I began yesterday, I think I am going to request possibly an iron transfusion and try that before I have tons of tests done, which I cannot afford. I did speak with my surgeon, WLS doctor, and he suggested that I have the test repeated and if I was having no band related issues I did not need to come in. The diagnosis of being anemic does answer a lot of questions as I was tired, no energy, etc. I just chalked it up to working, weather, etc. But as far as the hemoglobin, i have no idea how to handle that. My WLS doctor suggested possible iron infusions as opposed to shots, which are painful. I would like to try that first and see if my hemoglobin goes up and stays up before racking up tons of medical bills. Thank you for the comments. Banded in Bear Lake -
Hello, I have a question - I have not had a fill since 2012 - Since then it seems like I go in streaks. Some days I can eat and it goes down fine, no problems other days I cannot eat anything - everything gets stuck sometimes I cannot even get fluids down. The last two years have been extremely stressful and I wrote alot of it off to stress and it effecting my band, but my life has been getting back to normal and i am still having issues. I have no pain it is just frustrating to be able to eat really good for two days and then not be able to get anything to stay for two days. I was losing steadily but I have hit a plateau. Also it seems like when I know I am going to be eating with a group of people I cannot eat. On Easter I had very little to eat and none of it stayed with me. My husband says it is my nerves. I do not know if I get anxious because it takes me longer to eat than anyone else (I have not shared with people the fact that I have had lap band surgery). My husband says I should go to my doctor but it is so expensive and if I was too tight wouldn't I not be able to eat all the time??? I would appreciate your thoughts and advice on this issued. Thank you Banded in Bear Lake

Stress and weight loss
Banded in Bear Lake replied to Erin1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone think that when they r under a lot of stress their band gets tighter? I have had a very stressful year and a half, it is finally starting to calm down. I have days where I can eat until full and be fine other days I cannot eat even the smallest amount of food and throw up a lot. -

Anyone Have Trouble Eating Breakfast?
Banded in Bear Lake replied to Juliemyers30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot eat anything in the morning. I have problems drinking Water if I wake up in the middle of the night thirsty. I usually have coffee in the morning then my Protein shake. Usually by 11:00 I can eat something, fruit, cheese stick, not alot but I can get it down. My doctor says this is normal. I cannot eat bread unless it is toasted. I do not think I have tried rice yet. Steak is a 50/50 thing sometimes I can eat it sometimes I cannot the same with chicken. Fish goes down fine. I do not eat a lot of Pasta. -

General Ramblings About The State Of My Life...

Sorry to hear about your mother, I cannot imagine what you are going through. Stay positive and you are doing great with your weight loss. -
When were you banded?
-
I think a lot of it is stress related. My life has calmed down and I have been able to eat normally for about 3-days now. No more slime... It is weird how that works.
-
I am having a Slime issue. It is terrible, but it does seem worse when I am stressed out. And it does not happen all the time but when it does it is awful. It does not matter how fine I chew my food, it will not pass. But it seems like the only thing that comes up is the slime. I am losing weight. I have a doctors appointment in two weeks I will ask him if it means I am too tight or if somehting else is going on. I have had this problem off and on since getting my band in August but this is the longest I remember it lasting.

My husband is very supportive but he is also nervous at times when I do not feel well or after an adjustment. But overall he is great...
