    Paranoid About Getting Sick

I had a horrible chest cold/bronchitis 2 weeks before surgery and was on an antibiotic when I was operated on. My doc told me that I would be fine through surgery and it wasn't postponed. Everything went well. If you start to feel like you are coming down with a cold call your surgeon immediately so they can possibly put you on something so that the surgery doesn't have to be postponed. Good luck!
  2. 4 or even 3 weeks out from your surgery will be fine. I went back to work 1 week after surgery. There is really little to no pain after the first week. I didn't have any pain at all but a lot of people have it for 1 to 2 weeks out. You will be fine. You will be able to walk and everything. Stairs are a little painful going up for a couple of weeks but not much more than that. You won't have as much energy but it doesn't take a lot of energy to walk down to the beach to sit or lay down. You will be amazed at how fast you recover. I wouldn't postpone the trip if I were you. You will be ready to get out of the house and have a little fun....you will deserve it!!! Good luck in your journey!

    I've Failed.

DO NOT GIVE UP!!! Try to remember why you had the VSG. It is VERY hard to keep focused. I fight the urge to eat junk food everyday but I refuse to continue to be fat. Have you signed up on myfitnesspal.com? It helps keep me from lying to myself on the foods that I'm choosing to eat. You are a beautiful woman...can you imagine what you are going to look like when you're thin???!!! Sounds like you have emotional eating problems just like me. I have not sought counseling yet but will if my weight doesn't continue to drop because I know that is where my overeating has stemmed from. Perhaps it's something you should look in to before you completely self sabotage your weight goals. Good luck and no matter what....just keep trying!!!
  5. Chicagochic is correct...Hard candy is not a hard food since it goes down as a liquid. Be VERY CAREFUL not to accidentally swallow one! My doc didn't even want me to chew gum because of the possibility of accidentally swallowing it and creating an obstruction. Good luck!

    Omg Extra Skin Already?

I'm 56 lbs down and am noticing a LOT of loose skin! I am a member of a gym and exercise regularly so I'm hoping to firm some of it up....if it doesn't....I'd rather be skinny with loose skin than fat and fluffy!
  7. Great book...As a Man Thinketh! You can actually download if for free off the web. GLASS IS HALF FULL for me!!!

    Any Texas Gastric Sleeve Buddies?

Hello 4mydogs! I've lived in the Belton area for about 24 years. I also lived in Copperas Cove for about 1 year. Good luck in your journey!!!
  9. When you are on liquids your stomach can hold a LOT more than 2 oz. I was told that you cannot stretch your stomach out. My doc said that your stomach will never stretch out. I don't know how true that is but I trust my doc. I can tell you that once you get on full foods you will not be able to eat all that you want and you'll understand when you are full. I didn't worry about how much I ate until I got to the full foods stage and even now I don't worry because my stomach won't let me eat very much! You will always be able to drink more than you can eat and if it's "slider" foods (anything mushy, soft, liquid) you will be able to eat a lot more than you need to. Good luck!

    Feeling Full

Yes, it is completely normal. You won't be eating "normal" until about 3-4 months out and even then it will never be the same as it use to. The feeling of being full with the big bubble is your stomach readjusting to food/liquid in it. It will take some time to go away. It took about 3-4 weeks for mine to leave. You will eventually know when you are hungry. Good luck on your journey!

    Any Texas Gastric Sleeve Buddies?

    Belton, TX....an hour from Austin.
  12. I had the VSG with Dr. Ganta and he was absolutely great! Yes, his staff seems unorganized and they don't return phone calls well but don't let that influence your decision. Dr. Ganta did a great job and I have no regrets!

After How Long Can I Start Weight Training

Everyone is exactly correct...check with your doctor first. My doc didn't clear me until 12 weeks out. Until then all I could do was walking. Good luck!

Can Someone Please Talk Me Out Of It?

I had doubts right up until they took me in to the operating room. I even went through deep depression for about 2 weeks afterwards feeling like I had self mutilated my body. I am 4 months out now and I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made for myself. I had 90 lbs to lose and kept thinking I really didn't need the surgery...I could do it myself like I have all my life. I was a yo-yo dieter, up and down, up and down. I would have to work at dieting and exercise so hard only to gain it back again. I would stay thin for awhile and then be fat for years and then get thin again. That's all over now! No more yo-yo dieting!!! There was a reason that you decided to have the surgery...don't forget those reasons. Your fear is controlling you right now. Write down your reasons if you have to so you can keep referring to them every time you have a doubt. This is for you! Don't doubt yourself now...you've come to far. The alternative is to stay overweight and nobody wants that. Stay strong and be convicted in your decision. Good luck...I promise you that you will not regret it!
  19. I had a bougie size 38 and handle pasta and rice just fine. I chew it VERY well though and overcook it so all the swelling is done in the cooking and not in my stomach. I've heard that some people just can't tolerate it after VSG but some do. Good luck!

    Gained 10 Lbs This Week

I wish I could tell you what happened but something is VERY wrong! I've never heard of anyone with the VSG gaining 10 lbs in one week! You would have had to of eaten almost every waken moment and eaten nothing but fried foods high in carbs! Are you sure your scale hasn't broken??? I would call your surgeon and ask them. I'm assuming maybe it's water weight and/or the stress you were under but you really should check with your surgeon. Good luck on your journey!

    Im So Frustrated...i Could Cry

I could only take 1 week off from work. I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work the following Monday so only 7 days later and did just fine. Not everyone can but a lot of people go through this surgery with little to no pain and that was me and might be you. You might just ask for one week off and then if anything goes wrong...then let them know you need another week.
