  1. I was sleeved Dec. 13th. I had the stomach gurgling for about the first 2 months but it has stopped now. I was told that it's just your new tummy getting use to foods/liquids again and readjusting. I'd say just give it some more time. It will eventually stop. As far as energy goes, I am always tired and have no energy. I take all my vitamins daily; multi, C, E, Selenium, Zinc, B12 Sub., and calcium. I just signed up with a gym a week ago and hired a personal trainer. I've had 2 sessions with her so far and I can tell you my stamina and energy level IS improving! I have not felt like getting off the couch since my surgery but things are finally changing and I really believe it's because I'm making myself move. My doc said if you don't have the energy to actually exercise at least KEEP MOVING: meaning instead of asking someone to bring you a drink since their in the kitchen anyways...get up and get it yourself. Instead of driving to the mailbox....walk there. Instead of making a pile at the bottom of your stairs to take up in one load...take each item up as needed. So, I am always conscious to KEEP MOVING and I believe that is helping too. Make sure you are getting all your protein in each day as that will decrease your energy too if you don't. Best of luck to you and remember everyone's journey is different. Keep searching and trying different things to fit your needs and you will find your way!!!

    Stomach Exercises?

I'm 12 weeks out and signed up to start with a personal trainer tonight. I'm afraid that I'll tear something in my stomach and create a leak. Can someone tell me exactly what I can and can not do? Should I stay away from anything that tightens my stomach muscles? Should I not bend excessively or anything like that?

    Stomach Exercises?

Thanks for the info.! My doctor's office hasn't returned my voicemail and my training begins in 1 hour. I've had no problems with and since the surgery and at 8 weeks my doc said I could start exercising. I just wasn't sure if there was anything I could do that would create a leak.
  4. I'm in the same boat! My surgery was Dec. 13th and i can and do eat about 4 oz cottage cheese and 8 oz of soup! Absolutely nothing hurts my sleeve enough to stop me from eating. I was told from someone on here that once i go on full foods that i won't be able to eat that much anymore....I'm waiting patiently but scared to death that i won't keep losing weight. I would consider the can of chicken that you ate as a full food so i'm not too sure now that full foods is going to slow me down. I hope someone on here can give us some info or guidance.

    Sleeve Twins

    12/13/2011: Do I have a twin?
  6. I've read so many different descriptions of "Full Liquids", "Pureed", and "Mushy" foods and I still don't know how to determine what type of foods are in each category! I understand that Full Liquids are creamed soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, and puddings. What foods are Pureed and what foods are Mushy? What's the difference between the two? If you have to puree everything in the Pureed stage then isn't that the same as Full Liquids? I'm soooo confused!

I know how frustrating all the rescheduling can be! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR JOURNEY!
  8. THE SURGERY IS FOR Y-O-U! I know you would love your family's support but it's a personal decision. I didn't give my family a choice in the matter. Now that I'm 3 weeks post-op my family is very supportive. Yours will be to when they see you losing weight and grow to understand that you are doing it to be healthier and to be around longer for them. Hang in there....they will come around. GOOD LUCK!
  9. I have Hypothyroidism that is caused by Hoshimoto's Autoimmune disease. Since diagnosed about a year ago I found that I couldn't lose weight no matter what I did! I am 3 weeks post-op and have lost 25lbs but am wondering if I'm going to be able to lose much more weight due to the Hypothyroidism. Any body else have experience with this or know information that can give me hope?
  10. Thanks for your replies! It gets frustrating to read all the different definitions on here from everyone. Just doesn't make sense that surgeons have different directions. Oh well, i guess we'll all get through it!

    Tips For Protein Shakes?!

I'm 3 weeks post-op now and was just like you. I couldn't stomach any protein drinks for the first 2 weeks on clear liquids. My Nut told me not to worry too much about getting in your protein at this stage. Your main concern is getting in enough liquids to keep from dehydrating. I couldn't stand water, kool-aide, or even any type of broth. The only thing that kept me alive was ice tea sweetened with stevia and homemade chicken or turkey broth. I couldn't stand the taste of the ones that came in a can so I boiled a turkey and a chicken and strained the broth off of them. Your tastebuds are going to be off for awhile. Mine came back about the middle of my second week and now my tastebuds seem back to normal. Hang in there! You will be through the liquid stage soon just keep hydrated!!!
  14. OMG! Thank you so much for responding! I'm so happy to hear that you both still lost weight and a lot at that!!! I don't know why I didn't think of asking PRIOR to surgery. Thanks again for responding and making my day (life)!
  15. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH PdxMan! You've given me hope! I've never heard it put that way before! You just don't know what you've done for my outlook! Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!!!!
  16. I'm having the same problem!!!! I just can't seem to get it! My problem is that I apparently couldn't "diet" long enough or change my eating habits for life long enough to stay skinny prior to the VSG SO HOW THE HELL CAN I DO IT NOW????? I just don't understand how all of you are getting skinny just because you had the surgery! Right now I'm losing weight because I'm only 3 weeks post-op but I've already started cheating by eating Hershey's kisses. Again, I couldn't say no to food before so what is it that is changing your life for all of you to be able to say no to food now? Just because you had the surgery doesn't change the way your mind works....at least not for me. I'm scared to death that I've gone through the surgery for nothing! I can down 8oz of creamed soup and want more food a half hour later! People on here are saying they can only eat 2-4 oz at any given time....WHAT??? I'm going through the motions and going to join a gym but this just feels like all the other diets I've been on....I'll lose weight and then gain it back....this is sooooo depressing....

    Recovering Drug Addict

I was so afraid of throwing up the liquid tylenol that the doc sent me home from the hospital with that i didn't take one dose. Most people who've had the surgery will tell you that there's very little post op pain especially if you get the single incision. You will be fine with your sobriety. Both my kids are recovering drug addicts so i can certainly understand your concern. At this point you have weight issues that are going to cause you health problems if they aren't already so you need to take care of it. You will be fine with your sobriety but i definately recommend not taking any meds when you get home. Good luck and i wish you the best! CONGRATS ON YOUR SOBRIETY!!!

How Many Incisions Did You Get?

I had the single incision. There is and was no body pain. The single incision through my belly button didn't even hurt! I'm 3weeks post-op and the only pain I've had is the head hunger and struggling to eat right!
  19. I'm very curious to know as well. I'm 18 days post-op and scared to death of losing my hair! I knew to expect it but now that it's a reality I'm even more scared. I've had two other major surgeries: open heart and open lateral hysterectomy and didn't lose any hair. I'm really hoping that not everyone experiences hair loss.
  20. WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! You should be soooo very proud of yourself! You are worth every step, every ounce of pain, every heartbeat!!!! CONGRATS and keep following your dreams!!!
  21. OMG! My ex graduated from Ft. Myers High in '80 and I graduated in '81 so am a bit older than you. The LANI KAI!!!!! OMG! We use to hang out there all the time! They were notorious for not "carding" for ID's! I have family that still lives in Ft. Myers and actually stay at the Lani Kai from time to time! Too ironic that we met on here. I wish you all the best and hope to stay in contact with you through our journey to letting out that skinny person inside of us!!!
  22. I know Naples well! Graduated from Cypress Lake High School. Skipped school all the time to hang out at the beach. How bout you?
  23. Hi Pammie and congrats on an uneventful surgery! I'm 15 days post-op and had great results too with no problems so far! Good luck on your journey!
  24. I'm 15 days post-op now and I'm finding that it's just trial and error but anything with milk seems to give me the most problems....like...bad problems! Good luck to you and btw...I'm from Ft. Myers!

Am I Cheating On Liquid Diet?

I hate to say this because I don't want anyone to think that they can do it and all will be fine. I believe that docs do it for a reason for some people need it for medical reasons. Here goes...I ate Big Macs, burritos, chips, cookies and eberything i could get my hands on up until the day before surgery! I saw my doc the day before surgery and was completely honest because i didn't want to die in surgery!!! He told me that in my case it would be fine so I was very lucky! If you call your doc and discuss it with him it might make you feel better. GOOD LUCK!
