    Losing My Groove

im 7 months post op, I binge once a week on wheat thin crackers only b/c I was advised to by my practitioner, I was off bread/rice/pasta/potato/corn/chips/crackers etc.. since may and I told my NP that ive been feeling cranky and getting annoyed very easily. She had me email her a page from my food diary so she can see what im eating daily. next day she called me back telling me I need carbs, she advised a cup of Fiber one Cereal or a few wheat non salted crackers with some almond butter. After eating some crackers I noticed I took a slice of wheat bread with turkey and low fat cheese and smacked a tad of low fat mayo and ate it of course feeling full after, then next day the same, and day after the same till my Girlfriend of 7 years came to me and said "hey babe, ive been watching you and its 3 days in a row your eating bread, get control again please!" with that I brought myself back down to earth and two weeks later Im back on my routine again, thank god for people like her b/c I was eating bread kinda w/o knowing being bread/sandwich's were my biggest weakness so I was falling back to old and BAD habits! Say no to old/Bad habits and please take your husband with you to your meeting with your NUT if he does go then make everyone in the house eat healthy and dont buy crackers n bread n chips, in fact skip that whole aisle in the supermarket like I do and along with juice n soda aisle lol
  4. Ugh today was supposed to be my 7 month post op weigh in hoping I reached my goal which was to lose 200 by NYE, rescheduled to monday so Ill update here and my youtube channel with the results. So far down 180 according to 6 month weigh in :)

  5. Hey nance and im glad your surgery turned out fine as it was meant to be, unlike you my surgeon didnt use my belly button to access my stomach therefore I didnt have any uncomfortable pain sitting up/down, or laying up/down. actually they had me walking in the recovery room by 3pm just 4 hours after surgery, it was the dizziest feeling in the world lol but I wanted to prove to them that I was fine hahaha. That "normal" feeling you guys looking for is different for everyone, for me I noticed after 5-7 weeks after surgery (actually after I got on soft solids) but then things started happening to me, both thighs went numb, lower abdomen went numb, thigh muscles felt non existent resulting in me falling 3 times down steps, cant sit for more then 10 minutes or i start to feel tingle sensation and butt goes numb and till this date I still cant sit for long lol). Now 7 months post op all that went away minus like I mentioned above (cant sit for long) and a little numbness comes back to my abdomen once in a while especially while sitting. still taking my B12 sublinguals and wont ever stop. Nance Ive made video diaries on youtube about my post op journey month by month check it out here if you like www.youtube.com/brol1k alot have found my videos resourceful and helpful and good luck

  8. Hello guys and gals, my name is Alexander, my age is 26 male from the Bronx, NYC. I was born here but am of Dominican Republic/Cuban heritage. My WLS journey began back in 2002 at St Lukes hospital which I spent almost two years doing all the pre op tests to actually be denied of surgery b/c I was to heavy. From there I contacted beth israel hospital and after a few months of going on seminars and such I got denied b/c i was to heavy. After both of those denials I decided to put the WLS on hold for the time being as that is totally discouraging. Maybe after about two years later maybe 2006-2007 I went to Montefiore medical center with Dr Gibb to seek RNY and to be denied yet again was baffling to me. I then said to myself after that im no longer seeking WLS b/c Im going to accept me being a "big guy". To no surprise almost two years after that I noticed my weight had reached a high of almost 600lbsand noticed my health in serious decline. after watching tv shows like biggest loser and people getting WLS on TLC I got motivated to research a facility that would operate on me (a person almost 600lbs at 6-2) on google Columbia presbyterian hospital showed up and contacted the surgeons assistant (Dr Ude at that time), she was on vacation and would return back about a month after that call, during that time I saw my PCP for a full exam and referral to see the surgeon, When october came I had seen the surgeon for the first time and she did the check up and sat me down in her office and I heard the greatest news ever!!!!! "She said yes we can do the surgery on you!!!" those words were the best thing I heard in years hahaha, so after that she said I have to do a 6 month supervised weigh ins by a nutritionist and several other pre op exams required by my insurance. SOOOOOOO im into my 4 month weigh in then to find outthat the surgeon had switched hospitals. That was the worst news to hear, i literally balled up and teared my eye away, right there the phone rang and Ude had told the assistant, that she left a file there with a hospital and surgeon thatll do the procedure on me. With that I got switched to lawrence hospital which is joined with CPH and the surgeon is called Dr Ahmed. Bad thing was Dr Ahmed didnt accept my insurance so I had to switch to H.I.P which is one he accepts. Then after switching insurances I got to meet the nutritionist there for the first time to give me the bad news that the nutritionist at CPH wasnt doing it correctly so I had to restart the 6 month weigh in with her and thus far doing the rest of my pre op requirements. so into my 5th month weigh in, I learned the surgeon Dr Ahmed was leaving lawrence to go to harlem hospital!!!!! also the NP was switched, which all felt chaotic and I didnt know what else to do. I told the new NP my story (one im telling you guys now) and she was FURIOUS! She said to me dont worry your new surgeon is Dr Aaron Roth and he'll be the one doing the procedure on you, and he's really anxious to meet you. SO after meeting with him a couple times and finishing the pre op requirements i was scheduled for surgery june 6th. But wait........ during the month of may I get a call from lawrence telling me the insurance people are about to deny me b/c theres not enough proof that the surgery isnt cosmetic. insurance asked me to go to my old PCP and get weigh ins from up to 10 years ago. instead of doing that, I called my primary and told him the story of what insurance wanted me to do and he was outraged....put it like this, half hour later insurance called me telling me they approved!!!!!!! then the desk lady for lawrence called me and said "you should thank your PCP, I heard he gave them an ear full" lmaoooo that was so funny but thanks to me being on top and persistent I got sleeved (VSG) June 7th 2011 and since have lost 161lbs!!!! I know have a youtube Vlog that I update frequently, I would love if you all would watch them and subscribe and comment also...www.youtube.com/brol1k
  9. Yes persistence was key and thank god that its part of my personality, I hope to return to DR a changed man lol. Hey sorry for being out the loop from this site just busy with life, but all is back to normal again thank god! Didnt know it was you but I commented back as soon as I was able to, and thank you for the kind words darling.
  10. good luck with surgery nancy, I know all is going to go well, just pray if that helps calm you down b/c it sure didnt help one bit with me. @jasleeve you'll do just fine my friend!!!
  11. I also had experience numbness in my thighs, legs, lower abdomen... b12 did all the difference for me. I even lost total feeling in my thighs. 2500 sublingual b12 is what did it for me and feeling is back. Now... being that I lost so much weight, when I sit for a long period my legs do start to get numb but that is normal due to the weight loss and the stomach excess skin kinda pinching the nerve. for reference your more then welcome to check out my youtube Vlog for more reference www.youtube.com/brol1k

    Alchoholic Beverages

I was Ok'd to have one glass of wine or sangria 3 months post op, the whole team told me nothing Fizzy (sodas, champagne, red bulls etc..) for a whole year and Im sticking by it, I don't miss any of those things at all. I did drink some Hennessy with cranberry with no problem whatsoever. Althought the buzz effect came FAST after one small glass. Drink slow lol.
  16. I had a bug about 2 months post op, pepto bismol was recommended to me by surgeon and NP. Please drink Gatorade G1 as the regular has sugars and you want to stay away from that. And yes we sure are more prone to dehydration that's why I drink 2/12-3 liters a day of water and crystal lite.

    Vitamin Deficiency

Make sure your taking on a DAILY BASIS 1) multi vitamins, 2)vitamin D and ask doctor how many units, I take 5k a day it doesn't hurt. 3)calcium 1k a day, the vitamin shopp brand I take is 4 pills = 1k, and 4)B12 lingual I take 2500 daily. And then your proteins every day is crucial. I'm 5 months post op so I'm at 80-90g a day of proteins.

I believe your confusing hunger feelings for nausea feeling, I noticed I it those a few times an still do, a big glass of water took them away instantly. That's why doctor says drink water all throughout the day to maintain hydrated and full.
