  1. Viven I have UHC Choice Plus, I'm from San Antonio. Do you happen to work for JPMC by any chance? I've already done my eval, having surgery tomorrow!Like Kim mentioned the psych eval is no big deal. They just want to make sure you are stable enough to have the surgery and understand what will happen afterwards. It's a lifelong commitment so they just want to make sure you aren't looking for a quick fix and understand what needs to be done to maintain this commitment emotionally and physically. Just relax, be yourself, answer the questions and you'll be ok. Good luck on your journey!

  2. I was one of those who originally was going for the lapband' date=' mainly because I am younger and didn't want something permanently done to my insides. After researching thoroughly about all the complications, weight gain, etc that comes with a lot of lapband patients, I switched to the sleeve.

My reasons for not even considering gastric bypass?:

    Didn't want my system rerouted.

A lot higher chance of dumping syndrome.

Malabsorption issues, which can lead to malnutrition.

The weight loss is just about the same as the sleeve.

Obstruction seems to happen more often, like when the lapband.

Going to support group meetings, I notice that people who had the bypass looked more sickly than ones who had the sleeve. Not everyone did, but just a trend I noticed.

Right now, I only get acid reflux when I have something with bad butter (like the buttery topping on popcorn), margarine is fine though. I don't have to take a daily pill for it, I just pop a couple of Tums when I have it and it goes away pretty quickly.[/quote']

Mina, I agree completely . I originally wanted lapband because I didn't want my organs rearranged and then my surgeon educated me about the sleeve. I'm having surgery on Tuesday so I can wait to see the results!

  3. Thanks Arj, I've seem to calm down a bit. Just trying to clear my head. I had my little Easter dinner and now having crystal light to relax. Weather is nice out. I just wanna make it to Tuesday (my surgery date too)and be in peace lol. My parents are working my nerves but I know they mean well. Like my mom says " you can pick your nose but you can't pick your kinfolk".

  4. My parents are driving me crazy. I'm single and 25 so I don't have a DB or DH to come with me to the surgery so I choose them. My mom keeps trying to do a psychological evaluation on me (cause she has a stupid degree in psychology) and its really pissing me off LOL. And my dad made me so mad yesterday, I asked him if my gut looked a little smaller cause I noticed a difference and he was like NO, 10 pounds isn't gonna do it. It really set me off. I had actually lost 15 pounds so i was actually proud of myself. It really ticked me off so I got up and left.

Then they keep pressuring me to talk to their friend who just had surgery because they think I don't know what to expect. It's really stressing me out. There are so many emotions going through me and the main reason I became obese is emotional eating. I literally got in my car yesterday was on the way to the movies because that's my happy place. Was ready to get a large popcorn, nachos and large diet dr pepper to go to town on. BUT I turned around mid route and said NO not worth it. So I came back home had some Water and watched New Girl all night.

I really want to tell my parents not to go on Tuesday for the surgery. I just rather be by myself and stay at my lonely apartment verses their house for the remaining days of recovery. I'm the type where if you irritate me I'll shut you out and avoid you for days to give myself space.

I'm supposed to go to my parents tonight for Easter dinner and I don't want to. I actually thought about lying about changing my date for surgery so they won't go but that would make me a terrible person. I'm just so upset and frustrated. And I know my mother will hate me for that if I do. I really don't wanna go into this thing with all this drama.

Also, I've had just water today is it ok for me to eat a palm sized meal of Easter dinner tonight? Thanks for listening to me vent.

    Happy Easter!

  5. What are the requirements of your pre-op diet? Does it exclude pizza? If so' date=' you really should stick to your guns. If your surgeon goes in and can't manuever as he/she wants, your surgery could be converted to an open procedure (they've also been cancelled, though this is not common) and you don't want that.

Here's an excerpt from a previous post on why a liquid vs. regular or low carb diet. This may help with some perspective:

Thanks, helpful advice. I'm on Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch then palm sized meal for

    dinner

  6. Veterans I need some guidance. I'm on my pre-op diet having surgery on Tuesday. I am desperately craving pizza like seriously. I just want to enjoy a slice of pizza and be done with it. I've lost about 12 pounds so far and my tummy has shrank a bit which the doc says is good. Wants me to lose as much as I can by Tuesday. I've been losing about 2-3 pounds a day. I've contemplated if the the surgeon will really know if I stick to the diet in the morning, pizza in the evening (don't go overboard) and Saturday on out back to the plan religiously.

Has anyone cheated so close to the big day? Is this normal? What was your experience?

    Please and thank you

  7. congrats on getting a date. I am getting sleeved on 4/10. So excited and nervous. The liquid diet is hard, first week I crashed and burned then realized I HAD to make it work. I feared I'd be that one person that gets on the table and the doctor says nope, can't do it because my liver is too big. I think the first 3 days are the hardest then your body kind of adjusts. I've found that even when i do palm sized meal in the evening I'm full. I do one Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and in between Water. If I get the case of the munchies I eat sugar free Jello. I find sipping shakes (EAS AdvandEdge) and Water with a straw helps me savor it more and I take longer to finish it.

Can't wait to see our progress. See you on the losers bench :D

  8. I know the feeling! I just finished my 6 months and having surgery on 4/10. I found out I had all the stuff the doctor said I would when I was 21 and didn't listen now it's catching up to me at age 25. I don't look at it as a bad thing. Look at it as a good thing, you know what you have and learn how to fix it whether it be with medication or losing weight. This can also help with co-morbids too if your insurance requires you have at least one to have approval. The next 4 months will go by fast and before you know it you'll be on your way to approval and surgery. Good luck on your journey.

  9. Congrats on taking the first step with the appointment. Usually the surgeon talks to you about surgery and asks which one you would like to do (if you haven't specified already), makes recommendations, answers questions. Then usually the insurance person comes in and talks to you about what the surgeon requires of you and what the insurance requires. And sometimes they may have you meet with the nutritionist on the same day depending on how your office does things.
