I had single incision through my belly button. I think that it might be a bit more uncomfortable for the first few days of recovery since there is so much going on in that one spot but it was fine and the swelling was mostly down at about 3 weeks out. I have a few pictures on my profile. Managing 1 incision seemed easier to me than a couple of small ones. Anyone I've shown the incision to can't see it, and I'm just over two months out. I think the incision are so small though, for the multiple surgery, there probably won't be a lot of scar tissue. Either method isn't super invasive. Good luck!

So far no downs, other than a few plateaus. I have a bad inner ear infection, and I'm on horse pills. I'm cutting them in half, but hoping I don't experience my first stuck episode. No super exciting NSVs yet. I'm down to a 16/18 from a 22? I wasn't so excited about this because I was a 16/18 March of last year >_< Family and friends who know are super proud of me, and being awesome. I am lucky to have a good little support group. How are you doing??

Welcome and good luck!!

I will let everyone know how the fitbit goes. It should be here in the middle of next week. I also got a gift certificate for amazon and ended up getting a masticating juicer. We can't take ibuprofen, so I'm going to start juicing turmeric!! lol I miss having a juicer. Haven't had one since we lived in Hawaii 8 years ago. This was a very healthy birthday indeed. I hope everyone's weekend was good. Here's to a good week.

JustDoIt, you are in my thoughts!! It is my birthday today. 3-0. I am excited. I made a cake and had a small piece with breakfast and a sliver for snack with a little bit of frozen greek yogurt. The cake was made with a low glyecemic sweetner that has additional vitamins... so it is almost healthy, but definitely healthier than store bought or boxed cake. I'm at a mini-plateau so today I am not watching calories. I am hoping it will kick my system back in to gear like it usually does. Otherwise, things are good. My overall in my head goal was to lose 30lbs by my 30th, and I totally met that. Here's to this being the year of my life where I get healthy again, and then stay that way until the end I also ordered a FitBit as my gift to myself outside of the family trip we took earlier this month & the LB surgery (I considered the portion we had to pay one of my birthday gifts). Hope everyone has a good weekend!!

I called and had the approval in 5 days. I think it took another week for the letter to come.

Dr Enochs/bariatric Clinic In Cary, Nc

Me PM me if you have any questions. -
Generally no, but you need to check with your insurance. Most insurance require a BMI of 40, or a BMI of 35 if you have at least 2 obesity related major health problems, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, etc.

Thanks everyone. I know the assistant had RnY, and I am sure he is a smart and wonderful person, but I wonder if he understands that not everyone wants to lose weight quickly, for various reasons, like people with GB do. I chose LB for various reasons, but that was one of them for me. I know I need time to mentally adjust when my body changes. So... yea. Also, I just had tea with my EFAs in it (I have a fish allergy so I can't get them from there). Neener, neener to him. Thank you for all the support!!

I went to the doctor today too! It was a not so good appointment. I've lost 11lbs in the 5 weeks since my last appointment, and the assistant who saw me seemed displeased with that. I was bothered by that. He was also upset that I'm eating 3 meals a day with a snack or two instead of 4-6 meals a day. And he told me I shouldn't drink coffee or tea because it messes with vitamin absorption which is true IF I were eating and drinking, which I am not... so. Poo to him on that one. I am so annoyed right now though. I was very happy with 11lbs over 5 weeks. Especially since I traveled two of those 5 weeks and had to eat food that wasn't always of my choosing. But bleh. Whatever. I will get over it. 11lbs lost is 11lbs lost is a loss and I am in it for the long haul. He also refused to tell me how many cc's are in my band and what the total capacity is. I am super bothered by this. I mean, this thing is in my body, I feel like I have a right to know and SHOULD know in case there are any issues and I can't get to their office. I got a fill, not sure how much it was though... because. Yea. Anyway, I hope everyone else has better follow up appointments than I did, ones that are more positive. If I have another not so good one the next time I go, I might need to look into moving to a new office I think.

Since the medicine irritate the stomach, even when you aren't banded, my doctor says no, unless absolutely needed, and then it needs to be taken with prilosec, because it might lead to band erosion down the road.

Hey everyone, I am enjoying catching up on everyone's progress!! I go in to see if I need another fill on Tuesday. I am losing at a good rate, but I feel like I'm eating more than I should be, so I might have them check to see if I need another fill. I had a question about exercise and the port. Is anyone else ending up with a sore port the day after they exercise? I'm wondering if it is because most of the stuff I'm doing is utilizing my core muscles... but it is really driving me crazy. I am not in a lot of pain, but the constant discomfort gets to me. I wish we were allowed ibuprofen!

So You Think I Can Start Regular Foods Today??
jayeedee replied to Stace2882's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor's office doesn't allow us to go from Mushies to regular food. it's mushies-> soft foods for another week, and veggie pizza would not pass because of the crust. It is ground meats, chicken salads, medium scrambled eggs. Veggies are still mashed at this stage too. Try to speak to your doctor's office since it hasn't been too long since your surgery. If you still have swelling or are still healing etc inside, getting stuck on a big bite of pizza would probably not be a good thing. -
I was worried about spicy food because I read a few places that it might irritate the stomach lining, but I've been doing fine with my normal drenching of everything in hot sauce. I took it slowly and eased myself back in to it just in case, but I've had no problems so far.

I have been to every pharmacy near by and no one carries adult liquid tylenol. Where is everyone buying it? Can I crush regular rapid release tylenol? The children's stuff is sooo expensive!

Which Pre-Op Diet Is Best??
jayeedee replied to Sazparella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The one that is best is the one that works for you! The Protein shakes are like lighter life shakes. Lots of protein (usually whey protein), a bit of Fiber, low calorie, with lots of added Vitamins. -

Are you doing any resistance training? Or just cardio? And if just cardio, what are you doing, what intensity, and for how long? -
So happy for you! that is wonderful. I'm glad she convinced you to stay!

I have had to travel twice so far since being banded, and both situations I had minimal control over when/what my eating options were. Take Protein Powder with you. I take individual packets. I also have a filtered Water bottle I can just refill with water for the airport and the hotel/out and about. As for the things you like, my doctor says not to deprive ourselves, so if there is something you want, have a bite or two after you've eaten what you are supposed to eat (protein and veggies) in place of the carbohydrate portion of the meal, then toss the rest. A few bites 1-2 times a week will not ruin your calories for the week. If you deprive yourself when it is right there though, your brain will fight you tooth and nail and you'll end up over eating. food isn't the enemy! What I've also found is, if we don't make foods out to be bad things, and know we can have some, just have to eat right first, we are usually so not hungry by the end of the meal that one bit is really all it takes, and sometimes it just ends up in the trash. Planning where to eat is also important. Find some places close to the hotel with meals you can eat and will enjoy!! Just remember, when you have to eat out, you end up taking in a lot more salt than you do at home, so don't be surprised if you don't lose while you are gone or if the scale is up when you get back. The first trip I was up 5lbs, and that was gone after 2 days, this time it was 3lbs and it was gone after 2 days as well. GOOD LUCK!!

Change In Pre-Menstral Moods With Weight Loss?
jayeedee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, my PMS is usually manageable. General bloating, 5 minutes of upsetness for no reason, a headache and then I'm okay. This time around I am a mess. I feel like I have PMDD. I am not in control of my moods at all, and I'm taking everything waaaay more seriously than I should. There's been some bad news from work, and my 2 year old was potty trained but has decided that peeing on the bathroom floor is better than the toilet, and don't get me started on the pug... I am yelling and crying soooo much. I feel like a monster! I'm pretty sure my kids think I am. My husband is being totally understanding and told me to stop apologizing, but it is to the point that he called me from work, and then he came home for a bit after speaking to me! Has anyone else gone through this? Is this because of hormonal changes from weight loss? I'm going to go to the doctor if this happens again next month. We are traveling next month. Gah!! I do not like being a woman sometimes. -
Change In Pre-Menstral Moods With Weight Loss?
jayeedee replied to jayeedee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for the responses everyone. I went and bought some calms and some rescue remedy at the story today... along with some Vitex... and OMG the vitex drops are the nastiest thing I've ever tasted. If this happens again next month, I will be at the doctor's office pronto. -
You can have surgery while you are pregnant, but there is an increase risked of spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) in the first and second trimester. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3717642

Need Help With Mushies!
jayeedee replied to lgm217's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately, this is completely normal. Make sure to eat and get in your water in. You aren't really supposed to worry about your weight until you are all healed up. The lucky people manage to maintain or lose a little weight between mushies and the first fill, but some do gain. Just don't stress out, make healthy choices, get in your protein & water, rest up and heal. The weight loss generally takes time with the lapband, and there are pauses, plateaus and slow downs all along the way We just have to keep moving forward and looking at the overall picture.
