I've not always been overweight. Growing up and in high school I was of an average/normal weight and was active in sports and other extra curricular activities. I started to notice the weight creeping on in college and before I knew it was very overweight. I felt awful about myself and decided to join a gym. I ended up working out like crazy and restricted my diet from any sugars, greasy fats and carbs. I ended up losing about 60 lbs and felt great! I kept it off for around 2 years but then piled it ALL back on plus almost another 60 lbs. I am only 30 years old and so disgusted with the way I look and how little energy I have. I first heard about gastric banding when I went with a co-worker to a LapBand seminar about 2 years ago but was too afraid to actually look into it for myself. Over the past couple of years I kept getting bigger and finally decided I needed to do something permanent about the weight. A big factor was that my husband and I were trying to have a baby and I was not having any luck and my PCP felt perhaps my weight was causing my hormones to be out of wack. Also, I work in a hospital and see so many young obese patients that have come in with complications because of their size and I DON'T want to end up like that!! I ended up deciding to look into surgery again and went with my husband to an informational seminar in August and am about 4 months into the process.
