And I was clearly joking...
-
Yeah, you've got every right to be upset about that... it really doesn't make any sense. I mean, I legit take 10mg of THC nightly, no one had an issue. Good Luck! Keep us posted!

Congrats! That's awesome news!

I'm confident that they can't prevent you from the surgery for a medication you are approved for, just because the doc is "afraid" of something that has no medical justification... I'd ask for medical documentation proving that smoked cannabis increases ulcers. When they can't provide it, ask again why your surgery is being delayed for an undocumented side effect. Sometimes you have to push the issue, ESP when you know that it's unfair. Sorry that this is happening, it really shouldn't be.

Still not managing to eat or drink enough.
Matt Z replied to lorax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shouldn't you still be on liquids only after only 15 days post-op? I thought sleeves had a full month of liquids only? -
Congrats! The Pre-op sucks... *BUT* it's a great prep for post-op! Get used it things being tough, they will continue to be for a little while, but trust in that it's 100% worth it! Good Luck and Stay Strong!

I'm confused why you were delayed... There is ZERO reason why you can't get the surgery if you use cannabis. I'm on Dronobinal, which is THC, and it wasn't even an issue with my surgery... If getting the medical card isn't something your state affords, you **CAN** get the "federally legal version" which is Marinol/Dronobinal (and it's covered by pretty much EVERY medical insurance) I get my script at CVS. So, CVS sells THC pills... I would be very curious as to why they are saying that using cannabis is such a negative thing with your surgery... I'm sure they'll state "munchies" but... that's a cop out.

Congrats and Good Luck on an issue free surgery!

Email To Boss About Taking Time Off For Surgery.
Matt Z replied to scorpion509's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
^^THIS^^ or for more impact, have your doctor write it up. You should tell your boss about your impending surgery ASAP, the sooner you tell them, the more understanding they should be. -
This could be a case of you losing body fat and not weight. Which happens more often than people pay attention to. Your water intake needs to be higher, I can bet your sodium intake is through the roof and you are retaining water like a dam. You **REALLY** need to start doing your own prep, Restaurants nutritional information is notoriously wrong, always WAY under what it really is. Frozen pre-preped meals are great for on the go and pinch situations but *SHOULD NOT* be your first line go to... again, sodium and lots of other things are WAY TOO HIGH! It's great you are trying to track your intake. And you say you work out, but. Is your caloric burn higher than your caloric intake? So... You need to almost double your water intake. Ensure you are working out for at least 60 mins a day (Not including anything you do at work) stop with the take out / frozen foods and start prepping your own meals. Start taking chewable or drinkable fiber daily, sounds like you aren't even close to getting your daily required fiber intake. And lastly *STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT* Weight is only 1 number in this whole equation. Your body fat % can drop and you still not lose weight. I'm down .8% body fat over the last week and I haven't lost a pound. Stay focused, do not give up.

How much water is too much?
Matt Z replied to Meli1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, you are not drinking too much. Just keep with your intake and slowly increase as you've been doing. No pain means you are doing it the right way. -
Possible I've Lost Too Much?
Matt Z replied to Monkeyfulbrighter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to find some higher calorie content proteins or start supplementing with a mass gainer if you feel you are "too thin". But understand, if you've never been that thin, that the fear you've gone too far is more than likely just you not being used to not being overweight. Can you see your bones and ribs. Sure. Is 125 lbs light, maybe in the scope of what you were used to. But you are by no means underweight, in fact you are right in the "normal" range for BMI for your height. Work on tone and muscle mass, but, you look great. Don't stress about the bones... it's normal! -
Having trouble believing my stomach is gone
Matt Z replied to SydneySleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can understand this. When I had my band put in... I really didn't believe it, outside of being able to feel the port, I wasn't sure. Now, with the bypass, I've got nothing to let me know that my stomach has been cut in 2 and my intestines are all changed. Well, outside of the weight loss, dumping syndrome and new vitamin requirements. It's odd, but changes without being able to see them.... it's understandable that anyone would be somewhat skeptical. -
Should I buy the tickets?...
Matt Z replied to Deb100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be fine. I went to a show a 17 days after my surgery. Just take your time and ensure you are seated and have an exit plan just in case. -
To clean out, or to not is the question.
Matt Z replied to Oceanlove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Back in 2011, I saw that bypass patients were being given meds to flush their systems prior to surgery, so I was surprised when I didn't have to do that for my revision to bypass. Things change, if your surgeon / surgical team doesn't require it, I'm sure there is a reason, more than likely the flush wasn't necessary and simply doing liquids for a while before hand was enough. I'd suggest not doing anything on your own without talking to your team. If you end up doing the wrong thing or taking the wrong thing... you *could* end up having your surgery canceled or delayed. Might not happen, but do you really want to risk it? -
No bowel movement in 9 days since gastric bypass
Matt Z replied to Hihilaryy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Make sure your water intake is as high as you can possibly get right now. I found taking chewable fiber helps, also, I used a generic miralax in my morning smoothies for a bit and you can use some "Smooth Moves" tea. All of which help greatly! But water intake is CRITICAL! -
Protein - How much is too much?

https://fnic.nal.usda.gov/fnic/dri-calculator/ Check this calculator, granted this is for a "normal" person and does not take into account WLS. Everything I'm reading does not specify lean, even the USDA's Dietary Reference Intake does not calculate based only on lean mass. What source did you find that states it's lean? -
Mountain bread 2 weeks post op
Matt Z replied to Trainwreck's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not that it matters to your question, but you failed to state which operation you had. Even still, no matter which WLS you had, I'm pretty sure no-one is approved for breads 2 weeks after surgery. I'd stay far away from any carb this early in your recovery... if you cave now, you are setting yourself up for a very bad habit moving forwards. I know it's hard, but stick to your plan, if you haven't been cleared, DO NOT EAT IT. Use this time to change your relationship with food, because this is part of what put all of us in the position we are in now. Be Strong! You got this! -

Matt Z replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'd think so... but you don't want to lose mobility while gaining muscle mass. You can end up losing mobility if you work out too much and don't stretch, since muscle building happens due to damage to the muscle (micro tears) you can actually reduce your mobility if you continue to build and not stretch. Stretching without building *might* cause the slack issue to increase, overall you just don't want to end up "too tight". -
You've more than likely got a combination of both. The muscles are sutured. The skin is dermabonded (typically).
-
Congrats on the progress, Good luck with the rest!
-
Isn't it so rewarding to look at something that you know bothered you, and then being able to fit right in!
-
Sounds like you are off to a great start! Just let that momentum stick with you! You'll stall, but just remember that weight is only 1 number and body fat % might be dropping even if you aren't losing "weight". Congrats!

Protein - How much is too much?
Matt Z replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, it's been weird, my hips are going crazy, so much odd pinching and pain right in the joint of the hip itself. Been working the hips really hard to help with this. I can do 3 sets of 10 at 305lbs on both the Hip Adduction and Hip Abduction, that and lots of stretching! -

Plant based is fine to use, LOTS of people use it often, including those looking to build. Typically it has most of what's needed added in. Compare to another similar quality animal based and you'll see that you should be close enough to what you are getting in the animal sourced versions. They typically will be high quality and contain added AA/BCAA's because they know the target demographic isn't going to be getting those from animal sources. But always read the labels and compare so you are 100% sure!
