  1. And the quote system is back... I described it a post or so afterwards.
  2. (Quote system seems busted for this thread now... but)@macadamia ^^^ this! While you may get away with it, as my doctor says, it is a slippery slope. It does not take much to revert back to the old ways, especially if you are like me and use food as a coping mechanism. This is sorta what I wanted to avoid. We all know the *potential* repercussions, even though there are studies that show that having some level of "cheat" actually HELPS diets, The point really of this page was to show that, we are human and that we do slip up and there isn't anything wrong with that... Reverting to old habits isn't cheating, that's giving up, and that's what a little cheat here and there can actually prevent. What I believe was meant when one poster said "no repercussions" was that... that 1 cheat, didn't have any repercussions. I personally don't feel that eating cake, pie, "birthday meals" ETC is "cheating"... cheating, to me, is a very limited, rare occasion when otherwise you would break. Several instances in a row... isn't cheating, it's reverting. Again... in my opinion.

    Doctors office error

We do grow and shrink in height every day. This is because of gravity. We lose on average 1/2 inch a day from when we wake up to when we go to bed. The amount all depends your body and how much compression occurs in your spinal column as well as how active you are. http://undergroundhealthreporter.com/fact-or-myth-are-you-taller-in-the-morning/ So losing an inch or so... totally something that can happen, as well as calibration errors.
  4. How much are you drinking how fast? I'd suggest whatever amount/speed you are doing now, try to slow it down a bit to give your stomach a bit more time for the liquids to pass though. Does the sensation change with temp changes, fluid changes ETC?
  5. It would be a good idea to do so. That's what they are there for... and they really *SHOULD* be made aware of any issues you have... encase it's a larger issue that they need to address.
  6. What'd your Doctors say about it when you asked them? Have you tried adjusting the temp of the water? Does it happen with all fluids or just water? Does it happen with flavored water?

    3 weeks to go

Congrats! Going to be a quick few weeks!
  8. You can add ALL SORTS of stuff to cottage cheese and plain yogurt (greek works better for savory IMO) It's pretty easy really, just find a seasoning or mix or marinade mix that you enjoy, and mix a bit into the cottage cheese or yogurt. It's going to take some experimentation to get a flavor that you are happy with, but it's legit just as easy as mixing in some premixed powders. And you can add some unflavored protein as well to boost your protein intake. My pre-op was SF jello, watermelon, protein shakes and celery (I could eat as much of this as I wanted)... celery was my go to, since I could eat as much as I needed but it got old very quickly. So I started coating up pre-cut celery with seasonings like "Pub Burger" seasoning or "Maple Bacon" seasoning. And boy did that make things easier to deal with! So, go crazy, find yourself some seasonings you are interested in and start mixing them into your approved foods and just go wild! You never have to sacrifice flavor during this whole process, you just need to play around a bit.
  9. The biggest thing, is to not compare yourself to others. No one loses the same way. Was your co-worker overweight because of a medical issue? Slow metabolism? Horrible eating? Your heritage also changes how your gain and lose weight. So the best thing, is to just focus on what you can control... Go and find out what your BMR is (https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bmr) this lets you know what your baseline caloric burn per day is, then start tracking your calorie intake. At this point you **SHOULD** be exercising. You should have been walking daily since you got out of the hospital. If you aren't... start. Adding to your daily burn is going to help your drop weight. Stalls happen. Often. When you transition to solids, raws, etc... when your body needs to "re-calibrate" due to you dropping weight... etc. Best advice is to just keep tracking your intakes and not to worry so much about weight loss. Weight is just 1 number and is NOT the whole picture.

Is It True What They Say???

I'm going to necro the crap out of this post. I found it looking for issues with "dressing". I never really had to deal with the whole "dressing" situation... until now. I always assumed I dressed right... well, now that Mr. Happy has regained 4 more inches of himself to hang out freely as he pleases, I find that I'm dressing left, when I dress right things aren't as comfortable. Just thought it was interesting how things can change and how the "angle of the dangle" might not be what we assumed or remember. And as someone that's been overweight for most of his life... it's a different experience this time around. So to the OP, yes it's true, the numbers are exact, but we do gain some distance as we shrink up. But this whole extra process and part to deal with is both awesome and annoying LOL. I'm sure I'll get used it to... LOL I'd rather have what I've got to deal with now, then go back to "hide and seek"

    Very tough week

I adjusted from 10.4 to 8 and it seems to have helped quite a bit. I talked with my PCP and she suggested that I keep playing with the pressure until I get something I can tolerate, that I've still got a ways to go with weight loss and it would be unwise to have a study now, only to have to have another one in a few months. I agreed. Thank you very much! This week has been much better.

    Very tough week

Just not feeling "it" this week. I'm exhausted, not sleeping well, feeling really run down, drained. I feel fat. I know I'm not anywhere near as fat as I was, but... I feel fat this week. Bloated, gross, fat fat fat fat fat. My sleep **SUCKS** not sure if it's the weight loss changing my CPAP pressure requirements, or something else all together. I don't want to have to get another sleep study, because they blow, but I know I need some follow up. Not looking forward to yet another medical bill. Work sucks this week too, a shop of 5, reduced to 2. really 1 and a half since it's just me and my team lead, and my team lead has to do all the leadership / team lead stuff... so, It's just me, supporting just under 3000 users, on over 2000 computer systems, in 20-30 buildings spread out over all of RI, parts of Mass and CT. Fun stuff. I've been in and out of stalls for almost a month now, more in than out of at this point. Between Monday and today I'm up 2 lbs... not sure why exactly. All intake is right where it should be and I've been in the gym daily. Not going today, just not feeling it. Way too tired and drained to even care really. Growing tired of this forum again as well. Which sucks because, well, I do enjoy helping folks out. Just getting to the point where every question has been answered over and over again, yet almost no one bothers to use the search function first. So that's it really... Not a happy Matt at all this week.

    Newby

This is controversial, but, I've been using the PatchMD Patches, all my blood work came back good. There are a lot of folks that will ding the patches because they haven't fully been studied, there is concern that the amount of vitamins reported to be in the patches shouldn't fit..etc etc etc. I knew all this going into my personal trial, I got the approval of my surgeon, head nurse, nutritionist and lead pharmacist. I knew going into it that they might not work. Well, I'm happy to report that, they seem to be working just fine.

    Surgery

Might be a good idea to name your posts different things, rather than 3 with the same name. Just my 2 cents.

    Post Op Insomnia

Not specifically surgery related, but I have insomnia and sleep apnea... a major 1 / 2 punch. I've tried every single sleep aid on the market, both RX and OTC. I've found that Marinol works very well for inducing sleep. My nightly meds are one 10mg Melatonin quick dissolve, 1 10mg Marinol and 1 OTC "sleep aid" (Diphenhydramine) and that combo works quite well at getting me to sleep. Hopefully that helps you some!
  19. Easy, make them eat better too. Everyone in my family eats better now. Because we just don't buy things that we shouldn't be eating. They get their treats, etc. But it's greatly reduced now. That said, you will ****ALWAYS**** be faced with foods you can't/shouldn't eat... that part is up to you to get your will power up enough where you can just not eat that food.
  20. Here is my largest to most recent "photo recreation". 370 in 2011 to 243 (when the photo was taken) in 2018.
  21. I had to google what a malasada was LOL 😂 it's a Dough Boy for the most part... just a very slightly different dough, it's a sweeter dough, you can get them in traditional dough boy shapes, puffed like donuts and puffed and filled versions. My wife works at a mom and pop Portuguese bakery that also has a small restaurant, so sometimes things come home with her that I'd really rather didn't. But it's "for the kids"... to which I always tell her they don't need that crap either.
  22. I ate half of a malasada last night.... such a combination of things I shouldn't be eating! No adverse reactions around the time of consumption... but oof did the this mornings daily time on the throne suck. That said... I did lose 1.2 lbs from yesterday's morning weigh in. LOL.
  23. It might not be your fault. I'm partially on the spectrum... that and I've been online for so long (Since '94) that I've long since stopped reading into others posts, I read what's written and generally don't apply anything extra to the text than was is clearly written. I pretty much always write that way as well, just "matter of fact", no added emotion or feelings or intended meaning. What's written, is all there is. Too many people read their own emotion into what I write and it goes off the rails quickly. I actually spent several months self narrating online, so that no one would be able to mistake what I was writing. Matt said stoically.
  24. So often! I find it happens more later in the day typically. Not sure why, I'm in and out of my chair at work all day long... at home later on though, I get off the couch and things start to get fuzzy.
  25. I said "Lets keep this as civil as possible" and "Nothing negative"... neither of which can be applied to my statement about moving the cheat meal to another part of the day to avoid consuming those calories so close to bedtime. There are plenty of studies into cheating (potentially) being beneficial. I passed no judgement. If someone is going to cheat, that's on them, however helping someone who's already cheating to "cheat better" isn't anything bad at all. I mean, if someone could give you a simple tip to change your cheating into something that might actually benefit you... wouldn't you want to know what that change was? I know I would.
