I wasn't cleared for raw veggies or certain other very fibrous veggies until like 6 weeks post op. I was on puree's only for the first full month post op. Now however, no issues with any veggies. I'm a steamed or raw veggie guy personally.

Post Op Walking Concerns 1 week out
Matt Z replied to Plucky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh of course more exercise is going to result in more weight loss, but your healing should be your first priority. -
Catheter duting surgery
Matt Z replied to afakasiwife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was cath'd, but I didn't know it until I needed to void after surgery when the nurse warned me it might hurt due to them having cath'd me while I was under. I'm pretty glad they did it while I was unconscious... -
You can't add your stats from the App. I've requested that the site update the app so folks can, but right now, you can't. It's *ONLY* available on the web page.

14 Day liquid diet
Matt Z replied to Tatia Prescott's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your pre-op diet say you can have oatmeal? It sucks, but it's best to just do what your doctors have told you to do... if you are having an issue, contact them and talk to them about your problems with the diet. Everyone has had a different pre-op diet, so changes *shouldn't* cause any issues, but there are doctors that will cancel a surgery if you haven't followed what *they* stated you should be doing for your pre-op. So, best to stick to it as best you can and only make changes that have been approved by them. Stay strong, it's only tough for a few days, then it gets easier. Cheating makes it harder, personal experience. -
4 sets of 8-12 reps of a weight that's 80% of your 1 rep max is pretty standard set up to use for muscle growth. Mixing up the activity helps as well. Incorporating drop sets and Eccentric exercise into your routine will help keep those muscles growing. Don't forget about proper supplementation for weight gain as well, Using isolate proteins during the day, casein proteins for overnight repair / growth, creatine and other pre-workout supplements help as well.

Very depressed and lost
Matt Z replied to wardahwilliam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band ended up giving me Grade 3 Esophagitis, I had no idea either, it wasn't until I had the upper endoscopy to make sure there was no erosion with the band before my revision that I found out I had a moderate to severe esophagial damage... Now, heartburn and other burning issues are totally gone! -
Wedding ring resizing
Matt Z replied to Lyngolean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm using my original wedding ring from when I got married 20 years ago to hold my larger one in place. Really just because I love the look of the larger tungsten carbide ring over the tiny white gold ring. -
I personally never did get sick from water. But I know LOTS of people have, some of which still can't drink plain water. Try adjusting the temp if you haven't, some folks can't do cold, some can't do hot, some can't do unflavored. Experiment to find out what works for you, but it is pretty common for folks to have "texture" or "flavor" issues with water.

Very depressed and lost
Matt Z replied to wardahwilliam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a band to bypass revision myself. Had the band installed in 2011, and whereas I didn't have any severe issues, the band just didn't work out well for me, I got stuck constantly, leafy greens hurt to eat... it was just not how it should have gone. I spent years feeling like a failure. I finally went back to my surgeon after years of not checking in and we discussed my options and on March 21st, I had my band removed and was revised to the bypass. And I haven't been happier about a decision in a very long time. I really do wish I had the bypass back in 2011 and didn't get sucked into the promises of the band. The Bypass surgery has come a long way since it showed up. Do people have problems, they sure do, but seems you are already dealing with some pretty intense issues with the band, not sure what potentials with the bypass are scaring you away from it... I'm so very happy with my revision. -
If you didn't get sick... you'll be fine. Just make sure to watch the intake with sugary sliders like that.

Stalls are common. How's your water intake per day? Are you exercising? You really might want to look at bumping your calorie intake up a few hundred to see if that helps kick your metabolism back on.

I am bout to b 10 months post op with pics
Matt Z replied to BlueEyedAngel28's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@BlueEyedAngel28 Congrats! You look fantastic and you look like you feel fantastic! Are you looking at some light cosmetics/plastics down the line? I know there are reports of the excess skin weighing 10-20 lbs, not that you look like you need them, you shrunk right up! -
Post Op Walking Concerns 1 week out
Matt Z replied to Plucky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is no "goal" that folks should be reaching for... the walking helps prevent blood clots, it helps remove the gas from your system and it prevents blood pooling etc. You are doing fine. Only do what you can, what your are comfortable with and don't worry about what everyone else is doing, because there is only 1 person that heals like you, and that's you. It does get better. -
Feeling Good 3 days post-op
Matt Z replied to NurseSmiley80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you've got this fully under control! Keep that mindset when you start to potentially get a little depressed or when you start to hit the stalls. Just stay focused and in control and understand that... these things will happen, but will pass. Congrats! -
While online (from a computer browser), after you log in: Click the drop down arrow next to your name in the upper right hand side of the page and select "My Surgery" There you'll be able to change yourself from pre-op to post op and add some information. Then on the left side of that page you'll see "Progress" here you can add weigh ins. If you click the drop down again and select "Account settings" Then on the left select "Signature" you can update your signature block there. If you click the drop down next to "create" and then create a ticker, it will use your stats to fill in the ticker and you can click the check box to add the ticker to your signature block. Hope that helps some!

Just curious if anyone from the site has looked into this or not?

If there are duplicates or you *REALLY* want something you posted removed, you can click on the "report" button for that post and enter what you want in the request box. I typically report duplications when I see them so that they can be removed.
-
Dude Congrats! And no, you aren't blind, the settings for the call out / stats, is online and not the app for whatever reason, I've requested that they add those options to the app... but, nothing's been worked on yet it seems.

Good luck! There are more and more stories about banded folks not being able to get the sleeve, I was one of them, and more and more reports about folks not being able to be revised in 1 surgery do to scar tissue caused by the band. I was lucky enough that my surgeon kept working, even though the surgery took WAY longer than it should have. Over 6 hours for an under 3 hour surgery. There was just a post today from another Band to Bypass revision that the doctor removed the band and that's it due to scar tissue. I mention this because you stated your surgeon was 2 hours away and you were going this alone. Just want to make sure you fully understand that there is a real possibility that your doctor will open you up, and only be able to do the removal. We can hope that doesn't happen, but you should at least be aware and prepared for that possibility.

There is no guarantee that you'll not feel hungry. No surgery promises that. A small percentage of folks end up not feeling hunger at all, but most do, just a different levels of intensity.
-
Initially, you could get some bad gas/poop. And it's possible that it'll be a forever problem. You could try just not farting around your customer base. I work at a hospital as well, and I've had no issues with my gas or poop smell... I'm just not running around the hospital crop dusting folks and I use Poo-Purri in the bathroom. It's a totally easy thing to deal with at work, just stop farting around folks in the workplace... go outside or to the bathroom or somewhere where you can let them fly without having co-workers and patients around.

I puree'd pretty much anything I could. Even puree'd a bit of steak and cheese at one point (no bread)... wasn't as good as you'd expect.
