It might change your potential surgery depending on how bad, but they'll let you know. I was diagnosed with Grade 4 Esophagitis when I had my upper endo when they were checking to make sure the Lap Band didn't erode, since this was above the band and would be resolved with the bypass, it wasn't an issue for my situation.

I'd chalk it up to surgical pains still, being only 8 days out of surgery and all, I had some odd pains here and there that took a few weeks to clear up. Dealing with pectoral/clavicle connection area pain right as well as some back pain where the lat and trap overlap. You are going to have some pains from surgery, then some pains from the weight loss as the visceral fat starts to reduce and things get a bit sloppy / loose around the connective tissues and muscles, at least until you can work them out and tighten them back up. if it's persistent and doesn't come and go with eating/drinking, I wouldn't worry too much about it right now.

Worried about my wife
Matt Z replied to Biggamehunter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you bring up all the hundreds of thousands of automobile accidents that results in death whenever anyone gets into a car? No? Then your logic that bringing up a totally unrelated, extremely rare issue that just happened to occur to your aunt doesn't have anything to do with your wife's current situation, like, at all. Here's what I'm reading you saying: "My wife is happy and feels healthy. Her doctors confirm that she's healthy. But I don't care about that because I don't like the way she looks, and thus nothing anyone says is going to make me understand that I'm wrong" You came here looking for information, you've been provided with it, by folks that are right in the middle of dealing with it, but it's clear that the truth isn't what you were looking for. -
Going from Liquid to soft food today, a bit nervous :)
Matt Z replied to Plucky's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Just take your time, take super small bits and chew the crap out of them! I don't like eggs or cottage cheese either, never eat them, not even post op. -
Congrats!

Try different temp or flavored items. You are still healing, and the revision from band to sleeve is a tough one because of the added scar tissue from the band going right through the stapleline for the sleeve. In fact, my surgeon refuses to do band to sleeve revisions because of the added issues and complications caused because of the scars the band leaves. It does get better.

Did you have surgery yet? If you had surgery, and it was recent, don't worry about it. If it was 2-3 weeks ago, don't worry about it. In fact, don't worry about it at all. Your body will fluctuate up and down when you start making changes to your diet. Just stick to what you are supposed to be doing and don't stress about the weight, it's called Weight Loss Surgery, but really, it's all about the Fat Loss.

Worried about my wife

Come on James, it was literally the very first line he wrote. "My wife underwent gastric bypass" -
Worried about my wife
Matt Z replied to Biggamehunter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@BigViffer Care to chime in about how us bypass folks can't work out? LOL Show proof.. what do you want photos of us in the gym lifting weights? You state you can bench 400, well, using your own logic, prove it. I'm in the gym pretty much daily. Cardio, Weight lifting, I had the band installed in 2011, had it removed and was converted to the Bypass this past March. Zero issues working out and building / toning muscle. Just because you refuse to accept it, doesn't mean it's not possible. No on here is giving you anything other than the truth, that you just refuse to accept. Everything you are writing is just highlighting how this issue, is 100% with you and not your wife or her surgery. In all seriousness and honesty, you need to get to a therapist, your mindset is grossly unhealthy. -
Congrats! That's a pretty nice NSV!

Lap Band vs. VSG advice request
Matt Z replied to Jobber's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Advice. Avoid the Lap-Band. I was banded in 2011, revised this past march. Wish I just went with the Bypass to begin with. The Lap-Band is being phased out, 2 major manufacturers don't make them or replacement parts any longer. If the major suppliers are pulling out, that should tell you something. -
Worried about my wife
Matt Z replied to Biggamehunter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Biggamehunter Ok... let me put my 2 cents into this conversation. It sounds like you don't fully understand the human body and are tainted by something that happened 12 years ago. Your wife has a stomach. And speaking from personal experience, yes, you can most certainly weight lift and body build with the bypass. What I think you don't understand is that, fat isn't just on the outside, it's on the inside as well and Visceral fat, the fat on the inside, wraps around muscles, organs etc. Did your wife lose a little muscle mass? maybe. Did she loss all her muscle mass, hell no, she's lost the fat that made it APPEAR as if it was larger. As far as the wrestling... body mass and weight play MAJOR roles in hand to hand combat. She's more than likely not weaker, she's just working with a lot less mass and can't use that mass to overpower you like she used to do. You are using a lot of "I feel" and other opinion statements... when talking about a medical professional. I'm curious what background you have that makes you believe you are smarter than a doctor. Not saying all doctors are super geniuses and they are all simply humans, but, by and large, they know their damn jobs better than those that aren't doctors. It sounds like you need some therapy because it's pretty clear that the issues here are not with your wife or her surgery. What happened to your Aunt sounds horrible, but, it is a VERY rare occurrence, as you were informed. But it's totally understandable why you'd have strong feelings about it, your reaction is justified, and you are allowed to have them, but that doesn't mean that what you are afraid of is happening or common. Just because you feel a certain way, doesn't mean that's what is actually going on. I hope you reach out for some counseling. -
Pork loin made in the crock pot or oven
Matt Z replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LOL trick question. It's a shorter list to ask me what meats I don't like LOL -
There is a difference between drooling over the foods you CAN eat... and those that you can't. I took the OP as looking at all the foods they cannot eat.

There is no such thing as "normal" because we are all different to begin with, then each of our surgeries are unique. Drinking that fast, if there are no issues, is fine. Liquid will pour right through unless you put in more than can drain. If you are draining that fast, then congrats! You'll have zero issues with your liquids!

12 months ago I had my initial consult
Matt Z replied to MG1776's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@MG1776 Congrats man! Epic transition! -
It seems tough, but it really isn't. Like for me, late afternoon snacking, I'm a sweets guy, so I will cut up some strawberries and a banana. And that totally covers the need for something sweet. Pizza, I found that Cauli-Power Pizza (a cauliflower crust pizza) is quite good (a little expensive) and the "crust" is a vegetable so no bread!

Go for it. at 3 months post op, you should have been cleared for the "try it out" phase, where you get to find out if you can tolerate foods. However you want to cook your meats, go right on and have fun, just watch the sugar content for those added items is all. -
Do I miss certain foods yes, am I going on sites and drooling over foods I can't eat... no. The key is to find alternatives to the foods you can't eat.

How long did someone help you at home after surgery?
Matt Z replied to MK686's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was revised from band to the bypass March 21st, I was in the hospital until the 23rd. My wife was around for a while, but honestly I didn't need any help at all at any time after leaving the hospital, for most things at least. I was told not to lift more than 10 lbs for several weeks, so I just didn't lift anything too heavy. So I couldn't help out everyone else, but I didn't need help with my own day to day stuff. -
Congrats!

2011 - 370 and 2018 - 240

Banded in 2011, revised to bypass this past March, best decision ever.

Do you prefer caffeinated or caffeine free coffee protein?
Matt Z replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I vote caffeinated, but given how WLS patents are told to avoid caffeine and all, just seems a bit odd/off to me for a WLS site to be offering something that we are told to avoid. Just my 2 cents, I still drink coffee every morning at this point personally. Will you all be offering samples? I've had some pretty nasty coffee flavored proteins in the past. -
Anything you can see though is a "clear" it doesn't actually have to be "clear". So, water with some sugar free / calorie free flavoring, even if it's colored, is still a "clear".
