    Sushi

As long as you chew it good enough, and don't swallow the whole roll at once, you shouldn't have an issue once you are cleared for it. I'll take a decent bite of something and just swallow bits of it as I chew so it's not all at once. You could always request the chef roll with half or no rice, or a single light layer sort of roll. Rice is one of the few foods I haven't attempted to eat yet. Or maybe have the chef switch out Roe for Rice? Not super sure what options are available at the location you would be visiting, but it never hurts to ask!

    Vitamin Patches

I'm currently using them. Have been since 1 month before my surgery, so coming up on 6 months now. My 3 month levels were all well within acceptable ranges. I haven't talked with anyone who personally had issues with them, I've heard stories, but never have I seen a review from someone stating they used them and had issues. I reached out to a few folks here, the 1 that got back to me said he stopped using them because he no longer needed them with his diet meeting his needs. For me (and only for me) So far, so good. I haven't spent much on them either thanks to the point system on this site. My wife uses the iron during her cycles and said she can tell when she doesn't use the patch verses when she does. But that's just anecdotal. I get my 6 month labs drawn in 2 weeks, so I'll have more results shortly afterwards. I'm happy with them so far.

    Alcohol?

LOL yeah there were times when I was like... OK Crap... start deep breathing to get some of the alcohol to process before you end up face down on the bar. It sneaks up quickly! It does seem like the "Drunk" doesn't stick around for as long though too, which I found interesting.
  5. I was diagnosed with Grade 4 Esophagitis when I was scoped to check my band for erosion prior to my revision. I was on the Pantropazole for a while too, still on 1 a day until I get scoped again in a month. Thankfully I had the bypass, so acid reflux issues that caused it have been mitigated.

Congrats and good luck on your WLS!
  7. I'm using the FitBit Aria, because I have a FitBit Charge HR 2 watch, (and I've had FitBits for the past 8+ years now). It's pretty expensive compared to what's on the market now, but it works great.
  8. 1. It is, for some anyway. For both surgeries. For me, I don't have any problems with any sweeteners (or sugar really for that matter) Only real dumping I've had was from Tomato Soup made with fat free milk, still not sure what caused that, but, I haven't tried again (yet). Only way to find out if you will be effected, is to try out what you think you might be effected by. I found out that I can eat cake, cheesecake, chocolate, etc without any issues (which sucks actually because I wanted that negative response) 2. Loose skin is most certainly a thing. My highest weight was 370, check my profile for photos, I'm not overly concerned about loose skin at the moment, Down the line I'll more than likely get it removed, but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. 3. My first holiday after the Band was Thanksgiving... followed quickly by Christmas and New Years. I just stuck to my diet, didn't really have any issues. I haven't had a major "food" holiday since being revised to Bypass, but I've had cookouts, parties, etc. I just eat what I can, I don't worry what anyone else thinks or says. Burgers turned into salads, not eating bread, only eating a few bites of something. No one seems to care really. ESP if you've told your family / friends already.

    I’m terrible at this!

We can't motivate you for you. That's where YOU have to take the ball and run with it. Big thing is to not beat yourself up for the mis-steps. They happen, it's what you chose to do next that matters. Missing going to the gym? Well, GO! Stop making excuses and go. Not following your diet? Well, Stop it! Start following your diet and stop making excuses. Push yourself! No one else is going to make you feel horrible because you ate crap and aren't doing what you know you are supposed to do. No one else is going to look back at you in the mirror and be disappointed because you didn't do what you knew you should have. Just do it. You know you have to, You know why you have to, The ONLY way to get past feeling the way you do... is to do what you know you are supposed to. So stop dwelling on the crap that happened yesterday, focus on what you need to do to be successful TODAY.

    What am i doing wrong

Search for 3 week stall. It's beyond common. Nothing you are doing as far as I can see from your post is wrong. Just keep making sure you hit your protein goals and work to get to 128oz of water if possible. And stop stressing about the weight right now, work on healing and getting your diet worked out, the rest will happen. As far as bruising, That's a side effect of the blood thinners, and should your team *should* have told you that was going to happen. Our lead nurse joked about it, saying that everyone would have pretty bellies with all the blacks, blues, purples, yellows and greens.
  12. Try to work on getting your water up to 128oz and see if that helps. You stated you were eating, are you physically eating or are you still on purees? I was on purees for a full month post op. Then to soft solids for 2 weeks, then I was cleared for everything except raw veggies for 2 weeks and at the 6 week post op mark I was cleared for all foods. Are you tracking your calorie intake by chance?

    Actual time off work

I took a full 2 months off for each WLS I had. With the band, I was driving 110 miles a day, and I didn't want to deal with any issues on that long drive, the job was database management, so, minimal movement required. For the bypass, I'm working IT for a hospital, LOTS of walking, lifting, crawling, etc etc etc. I took the 2 months mainly because I wanted time to start to figure out foods, I wasn't cleared to start experimenting with food until the 6 week mark, I didn't want to end up dumping at work... so I took the extra time so I could be 100% sure of everything going back.
  14. I was allowed 1 cup of watermelon, and as much celery as I wanted on my pre-op (as well as the shakes and broth and SF jello)

    Dry mouth

To anyone that's consuming and not feeling hydrated, try consuming some electrolytes. It's entirely possible you need some beneficial salts in your diet!! There are SF Electrolyte powders you can add to water. Salt is an important part of bodies and works to aid in water retention, which, we do need to a certain level. In fact, drinking too much water without ensuring to add back electrolytes can cause Hyponatremia or any number of essential mineral deficiencies.

    Bowels after surgery

My first go was a black, tarry, sandy, mess that stunk to high hell! And yes, that black stuff is blood, so everyone else that said blood isn't normal... might want to check in with a surgeon. With the pre-op, not everyone gets watery, I didn't. It all depends on how your body processes the liquids, some folks will just shuttle the drinks on down and back out... others (like myself) my body used all the fluid or at the very least, separated it and set it to where it should be going. I didn't go often on my pre-op.

    Alcohol?

I had a few sips of scotch around 3 months out or so to test the waters. I've since had a few glasses of scotch (2 or 3) and a number of beers, one night I consumed 8 bottles at a club. Not that I'm advising anyone do that though. Best to feel out your tolerance at home (and to make sure you don't dump from the alcohol). I can say that I'm a little disappointed that I can drink... just one more thing I shouldn't really be able to do, but can. So it's going to be more will power now since I know I can drink if I wanted to.
  18. If your husband had a family plan, you and your daughter are BOTH are on that plan. You can use 2 different insurances to cover 1 surgery as well. So if you've got your own and your husband has the family, you can use both yours and his for your surgery. Your daughter would still only be under your husbands plan as you stated, but it's possible that your surgery on your husbands plan, while co-insured by yours, will still put you at your max out of pocket for his plan. Give some folks a call and don't assume anything, let THEM tell you what's what!

    Calories 2+ Years Post-Op

Find out what your BMR is and use that as your daily intake goals. If you consume around what you burn each day, you'll maintain a stable weight.
  20. And honestly, your life is more at risk. You are older and have more than likely dealt with the weight much longer than your daughter. Your risk ratio is going to be MUCH higher than hers. My family saw the benefits of my surgery. My wife goes to the gym with me, my son's are eating better, because I'm eating better and we don't buy foods that I can't (or am not supposed to) eat very often now. So my surgery has had positive implications for the rest of my household. So, if you do end up getting the surgery yourself, she will more than likely benefit from it as well.
  21. I have zero issues with beef. I actually have zero issues with fats at all. I've got a higher than expected tolerance to sugars as well. Only real dumping I've had was with a bowl of Tomato soup made with fat free milk (I drink fat free milk because I like it better) You really just have to roll the dice and test it out. Dumping could happen, but if you test foods at home, it's much better then getting surprised when out and about. As far as stretching, that's a portion issue more than a type of food thing typically (clearly expansive/absorptive foods are the exception). IE 1 oz of ground beef isn't going to stretch your stomach any more than 1 oz of ground turkey or chicken.

    Dumping with the sleeve

It's entirely possible you'll have dumping with high sugar items for the rest of your life. But as stated, take time to heal up before you make that call. For now, I'd stick with as low of sugar counts as possible until you are fully healed up and can start experimenting a little more. Right now you want to focus on healing and getting everything you do consume... to stick around.

    Surgery date

Congrats and good luck on the surgery!
  24. Check with your insurance company... mine has a max limit for out of pocket. So with my surgery this year, pretty much every other approved medical need, is covered at 100%. So, if one of my immediate family needed to have surgery, they could, and it would more than likely be 100% free at this point. Talk to your insurance and find out what costs you can actually be looking at, never just assume anything!
  25. Firstly, Give yourself time to heal, you can be retaining fluids still from the surgery... What's your totals look like for calorie, protein and water intakes? How's the evacuation going? Are you blocked up or going normally?
