Opinions on Aria scale-Looking for a good digital scale!
Matt Z replied to madscientistmommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The Aria is very sensitive to being moved/picked up. FitBit advises that you don't pick it up once you've placed it, and if you do pick it up or move it too much, they suggest you take 5 consecutive weights to allow it to re-calibrate. -

I sure do hope so! Thank you! -
I agree Matt. You are one of a kind! Thanks!... This can go a few ways, but I'll take it as a positive LOL

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Matt Z replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Still trucking along this week. No major "violations" or slip ups... it's getting much easier to extend past the 6pm - 8am fasting hours at this point. Stall broke, weight's starting to slide off again. I've got 27 lbs to shed in the next 61 days to meet my dream goal of being the weight I was when I was 20, when I turn 40 (and being the same weight I was when I was married 20 years ago) -
Just keep trying things and retrying things that were problems... lots of changes can happen while you are healing.
-
Some folks develop texture and temperature issues with water. Try changing the temp of your water or adding some flavors (because oddly enough this changes the "texture")
-
Good Luck! Just remember when it gets harder, and it more than likely will, just focus on all the reasons you want the surgery and keep strong!

What's OT mean in this instance? And thank you! -
Large-capacity pouch 6 weeks post op
Matt Z replied to gr8ful1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've been able to eat more than 1 cup much sooner than "normal". But this is where the "every single WLS is different" comes into play. No one has the same surgery, not even twins having the same surgery on the same day by the same doctor would have the same exact surgery, pouch size, weight loss speed, etc etc etc. As long as you are following your diet, aren't having any issues, are satisfied with the amounts you are instructed to eat, aren't binging or otherwise sabotaging yourself... then this is 100% a non-issue. -
Gallbladder Removal Question?
Matt Z replied to SummerEssence's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Some do, some done. This is 100% a case by case thing. For me, I had gallstones before bypass, so I didn't need to take any of the gallstone medication. My stones were not severe enough to warrant removal of my gallbladder. So far, just shy of 6 months out, no issues with my gallbladder. So, if things keep working out this way, I won't have to have it removed. But there are folks that do have to have it removed during surgery and some folks have to have it removed after surgery. -
Totally normal, as you heal up, "full" sensations can change. As far as loss speeds... do yourself a favor and stop worrying about this now. No one loses at the same rate, so being worried about speed of loss or comparing yourself to someone else is just daft. Worry about what you can control, and that's your intake, exercise, and how well you are following your doctors orders.

Congrats and Good Luck!

It's very common, a quick search will generate more posts than you can shake a stick at. Are you following your doctor/nutritionist's plans? If so, then you are doing everything you should be. If not... then you really should be following their plan. Make sure your water is upwards of 128oz a day, make sure your calorie count is high enough to support your exercising otherwise you can force your body into conservation mode. Less isn't always more.

Call and see if you can get your diet adjusted. On mine, I was allowed all the celery I wanted, which sucked and was helpful at the same time.

2018: Study suggests that type of weight loss surgery matters
Matt Z replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Even the RNY has had changes since it's inception, but mainly due to improvements in medical equipment. I'm sure those same changes effected the sleeve as well. -
She's my first Mastiff... and she's a slug with a small side of ham. I'm sure she'll get more hammy as she starts feeling better and getting used to how we do things in my pack. It's funny, she's started to try to play with my Rough Collies, but the collies are more into the herding games and playing tag, or keep away (they play this themselves and I've even watched our older collie teach her younger sister how to play games) but they don't really do the tug of war stuff that Ruby is into... all games of tug of war go the same way, 5 seconds of tugging, then the collies release and expect you to run with the toy or to throw it so they can get it. Always LOL.

2018: Study suggests that type of weight loss surgery matters
Matt Z replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not really new... reports and studies have shown RNY has a slightly higher set of numbers than the sleeve for a while now in regards to losses and % kept off after X time has past. -
I had no issues with changes in smell. My injections were ALL in my stomach, we were told this well before surgery, bypass patients had to do 2 a day for 7 days.

Here is Ruby, we rescued her from a very bad situation. She was severely malnourished, she's between 3 and 4 years old, supposed to be a full blood AKC registered French Mastiff (aka Dogue de Bordeaux). She's got some skin issues we are working on and she was almost half the weight she should have been, breed standard for both male and female French Mastiffs are 120-140 lbs... she was 68 lbs when we took her to the vet, 2 days after she moved in with us and started eating better. She's still skin and bones, and VERY skittish and nervous, but she's coming along nicely. Lots of constant positive reinforcement and care. She's in heat too, which sucks because good lord she bleeds a lot!

CAN I HAVE HOT CHOCOLATE ON MY PRE-OP LIQUID DIET?
Matt Z replied to Lovely_Me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Does your pre-op diet say you can? Did you ask your doctor? I'm going to go with "NO" on all accounts, including answering your question about being able to drink it pre-op. Pre-op is when you REALLY want to work on getting out of bad habits and wrangling in those bs cravings. -
It takes a lot out of me each time it happens.

50g: The most protein I've found in any drink so far
Matt Z replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Whey Isolate and Milk Protein Concentrate are not the same, not exactly. They are both derived from milk, just the process is different. Whey Isolate as most or all of the lactose removed from it, Concentrates do not. -
Pain when I twist or bend
Matt Z replied to MustangIrishgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes this is normal, you just had invasive abdominal surgery LOL -
I wouldn't worry, have you started eating differently / transitioning to normal foods? If so, this will cause this. As long as you are tracking your intakes and you are consuming less calories than you are burning per day, AND you are getting PLENTY of water (upwards of 128oz minimum) then you'll be fine. Fluctuations happen, stalls happen, gains happen. Just stay on course and you'll be fine. You have not failed. Unless you are eating all sorts of crap and aren't trying, then you haven't failed at all.

Hello. I'm new. I think I'm failing...
Matt Z replied to Era254's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's counter intuitive, when you are working out, you need MORE calories to support the workout. Less is really doing to drive your body into conservation mode. Most doctors and research I've seen has shown that a modest increase in calories can actually help with weight loss.
