Every doctor has their own way, and don't forget that it also has to do with you, the patient. Not everyone needs to have their liver shrunk or go on pre-operative diets for weight reduction etc etc... Some insurances require it, some surgeons require it and sometimes it's required to make the surgery safer due to the patients anatomy. Not having a pre-op is nothing to be worried about at all!

Whey Isolate should be as lactose free as Fairlife. Milk based proteins (whey) come in 2 forms, Concentrate and Isolate. Concentrate is just as it sounds, concentrated milk protein. Isolate is a super filtered form of whey and removes most if not all lactose. It's possible the cause isn't the protein but some other ingredient like sugar alcohols which are known to cause issues in some folks. Try another brand of Whey Isolate before you write off Whey proteins as the cause. You can get samples typically at most supplement places.

To be honest, you are going to want to be sub 300, maybe even sub 250, I know when I started getting above a size 44/46 inch waist, I couldn't fit on the some of the rides any more.

Two questions.......Being sleeves after Lapland.....Opinions on driving to soon
Matt Z replied to aapb79Gmail.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon advised against band to sleeve revision due to the sleeve being a higher pressure surgery, and the whole staple line going right through the scar tissue created by the band making that point a weak spot that's more prone to failure. My revision from Band to RNY, the recovery was about the same. The sleeve does have a slew of potential "issues" during the healing phase, people having tolerance issues with certain foods etc for a little while that might make things interesting, but as far as being able to do stuff like driving, the general rule is, no driving until you are totally off all of the narcotic pain meds. -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Matt Z replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
ugh... just ready to cry/cave in/give up/whatever... Gained more weight, again. 224.2 lbs / 27.9% bf Monday, 225.8 lbs / 27.5% bf Tuesday, 226.6 lbs / 27.3% Today. I know fluctuations are normal. I see that my body fat % is dropping even though the weight is climbing. I'm hoping it's another "fill and flush"... because if it keeps going up I'm going to lose my mind. sigh... just keep swimming right... -
Compression clothing is made from materials with a strong elastic response. You want to buy them in a size smaller than you would typically wear and it pulls everything in tight against your body. This kid is great, he went from 370 to sub 200 without surgery, he talks about excess skin and compression gear in this video

Did the jeep have one of the Tigershark engines? FCA knows those engines can be hit or miss, ESP if there is an oil blockage for the hydraulic lifters/timing. Sucks about everything man, but glad you are getting through it!

Compression clothing is SOOOOOOO helpful! You don't need to spend tons of money on them either. Yes UnderArmour is good, but overly expensive, ESP if you are still dropping weight. I've got a $55 compression shirt that's useless now because it's too big. Amazon has stuff cheap, you can get things from overseas as well, but word of caution on that, plan ahead and get a smaller than you currently need size. I made that mistake as well and ordered what I needed, but since it took a month to arrive, it was not as supportive as it could have been.

Thinning Skin, rashes, acne and low energy

Did they not do a full panel to see what your levels were? Figured that would be a no brainer with being 3 years post op Bypass. -
Congrats!

Sadly this is the age of the internet... where courtesy doesn't exist (much). I agree with you 100%.

I'm sure I'll be fine, but thank you. This crap is freaking frustrating! Side note, I had to send out my most recent wedding ring to get resized, dropped 2 full ring sizes. Downside is that I only have my original wedding band on and it's freaking tiny, my hand feels naked! -
How soon did you return for work?
Matt Z replied to prkitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, my jobs are physically demanding as well. I feel like he's pressuring me to go back. I guess I'll have to try to put my foot down. I have my first follow up today, even though I just got out of the hospital for the lung issue yesterday. Thanks so much. I would most certainly push, just be very direct with your "request" "I don't feel comfortable going back to work so soon due to the physical demands of my job, I want to be sure I'm fully healed before I put my body back into that situation, so to avoid any complications or injury, I would like you to write me a return to work letter for (whatever date you want to return)" -
Congrats and Good Luck! Best thing I ever did was get my band removed and covered to RNY!

How soon did you return for work?
Matt Z replied to prkitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 2 full months off. My job requires a lot of moving, lifting, squatting, etc, so I wanted to make 100% sure not only that I was fully healed, but that I had time to figure out which foods I could eat and which I had to watch out for before going back. You can request longer, you just have to tell them, not ask, when you want to go back, that's what I did for both my Lapband and my RNY. -

5 days post op VGS, but I don't feel different
Matt Z replied to notaslavetofood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Felt the same way for a few, but Bypass patients get to the puree stage usually in 3 days post op, so that's really only as long as that sensation stuck around, I didn't feel anything different, Until I started putting something other than just liquid in. -
Restriction - Do you still feel it? Will it always be there?
Matt Z replied to Letgo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will get used to the sensation and it will become "normal" for you, so yes, the sensation WILL change, even if you only ever drank shakes and your pouch never stretched, the way it feels now, will not be the same as when you become adjusted to the new sensation completely. Much like how our brains ignore our noses in our vision, your nose is ALWAYS visible when your eyes are open, ALWAYS. But your brain just... erases it because it doesn't need to track it, it's always there. So down the line, that restriction is going to feel different. Just how it works. Restriction is the the "full" feeling you get after having WLS. -
It's a dream, dreams are visual manifestations of your hopes, fears, anxieties, or just things you are dealing with day to day... they mean nothing other than your brain is working through stuff. Tell him to chill out, you are at more risk staying overweight than you are getting the surgery.

Fitbit most certainly has nutrition entry, you just need to do so from the site or the app, I don't know of any smartwatch or fitness tracker that lets you enter nutrition directly from the wearable. https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log And MyFitnessPal links up with your fitbit account.

Just focus on why you want the surgery and remember that, if there was one place you'd actually want to be and have something go wrong, it's going to be in a hospital being directly attended to by doctors. You'll be ok, before you know it you'll be frustrated with your first stall.

So I shouldn't say that Friday I was 226.5 and today after a weekend of all that crap I'm 224.2? (I was actually down to 223.9 on Saturday... but you know... beer and cake and all the shi tty foods LOL) -
5 month stall, anybody else?
Matt Z replied to LouT's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks! Work on getting your water up to 128 oz a day. That 64oz is beyond bare minimum. The human body uses water to break down fat, so if you don't give it enough to process it's daily requirements, fat loss will suffer. Intake is a tad low, but if you've been inactive so that's not THAT bad. You are still down 40ish lbs in 5 months, that's still a decent amount, don't let the whole picture or the dreams get in the way of celebrating the accomplishments you've done already. I understand it's not all of it, or your goal, but, it took you longer than 5 mounts to get overweight... it's going to take a while to get rid of it all. Make sure you are talking with your surgical team and nutritionist, you can look into Intermittent fasting(IF) as well if you feel things just aren't sorting themselves out. I'm doing an 8-6 IF, so I only eat between 8am and 6pm. This has really kicked up my weight loss! -
Surgery/recovery room timeframes
Matt Z replied to Chrisb428's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgery was over 3 times longer than it should have been for a Band removal revision to RNY. I arrived at 6am, was in prep by 630 and was in the surgical suite by 730-800. I was awake and coherent before around the same time my bed made it back to the recovery room. My family was allowed in at that point (once I was awake) From there I did a little light walking, then I was wheeled up to my room within an hour or so. I was then in my room for the rest of day 1, 2 overnights and I was home before 1pm on the 3rd day of my stay.
