Another day, Another limited eating window trying to get my saggy tookus back to 200 before Nov! -
Do you have any other "co-morbidities" like sleep apnea or diabetes? If so the BMI "line in the sand" is lower.

Talked to my doctor...

Congrats and Good luck! -
Nerves are easy, just remember why you want the surgery. I'm more curious why your doc is swaying you to the Sleeve over the RNY, both are viable options. Everyone experiences "nerves" and anxieties over surgery. Even those of us that have been through this before... have "nerves" before surgery. Don't stress over things you can't control, it's a waste of energy!

My first post here, awaiting insurance approval!
Matt Z replied to teenyshell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's funny, I originally thought the same thing, but what's odd is that the sleeve actually entails MORE changes... with the physical removal of 90% of your stomach, the RNY doesn't actually remove anything, it just re-organizes it. The sleeve is 100% not reversible, whereas RNY is, in rare situations where it's warranted. Hopefully your surgeon advised you to all the common side effects related to the sleeve, like GERD and Acid reflux issues etc. I went RNY because I was being revised from the Band. My surgeon won't do Band to Sleeve due to the increased potential for staple line failure due to the scar tissue created by the Band. I originally wanted the sleeve a well, but once I read up on the common side effects and the rate of regain... Coupled with my surgeons information on the conversion issues, I went RNY and I've been very pleased with the whole ordeal. -
Newbie with a couple questions
Matt Z replied to JustMeInCleveland's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wife and I had a conversation about this kinda topic on our hike yesterday, I was commenting on how I really haven't eaten much of anything prior to the hike and how before surgery, I wouldn't have been able to do the same thing. I get I'm smaller and using less energy to move around, but how far I can go on zero caloric intake now is so much different than before. Before I could have eaten 6 hours ago and the level of hunger / energy would be so low as to make that much work close to impossible. But now, it's like I've got so much extra energy that I don't need to eat too much to be able to do the same or more work. It's quite amazing how the human body likes to stay in these ruts! -
Side note, hit the quote button when responding, that way it sends the user you are responding to a notification, or use the @ and then type out the user name and select it from the drop down, that'll notify the person as well. Otherwise folks can miss your reply or request for additional help.

drinking cold water
Matt Z replied to raidersnation's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok yeah, so still well within the typical healing window. It might get better, just figure out what works and go with that for a while to minimize irritation. Also, side note, click on the "quote" button when replying to someone so they get a notification that you replied. Or you can type @ and then start typing the user name and then select it from the list that generates and that'll make sure the person you are trying to get their attention or respond to gets a notification. -
6 weeks out and having trouble. Help!
Matt Z replied to Klem1010's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are still healing, So take it easy, but certainly make sure you inform your surgeon and nutritionist. If you've got a stricture or some other mild complication, it might need to be looked into, always make sure to keep your surgeon in the loop on stuff like this. -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Matt Z replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So close to being sub 220 it's killing me LOL Did a 4.5 mile hike yesterday, with super minimal food intake prior as well and it was totally fine! Broke my fast with 2/3'ds a pouch of oatmeal. Had my coffee. And that was it for more than 1/2 the hike. I ate a handful of cashews at one point... but that was it for all 4.5 miles and fitbit tracked as 52 flights of stairs. Gains a tad from yesterday, but I think that's water retention in the muscles from the hike. Everyone else have a good weekend? -
Newbie with a couple questions
Matt Z replied to JustMeInCleveland's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
1. I haven't noticed a pouch rumble, but my excluded stomach will, but VERY infrequently, did so actually the day after surgery and I was like... What the hell was that! It wasn't audible however. 2. This is a personal thing. Not everyone feels the same levels, some are lucky and never feel it again, others never lose it...and then some, lose it in some fashion only to have it return 6 - 12 months post-op. For me, I do get hungry, but it's no where near the same as pre-op. I typically get shaky or start to feel light headed before I realize I need to eat. -

How long ago was your surgery? -
Try to shoot for 128oz. 64 isn't enough to meet most people's daily minimum requirement (yes we do get water from other sources as well), post op it's more important, since the body uses water to process fat, if you don't give it enough to meet it's daily minimum, then fat loss *will* suffer. It's not easy at first, but it does get easier as you keep trying.

I wish I had the Bypass back in 2011 when I had the band... Best thing I've done in a very long time. Had my 6 month check in today, down 87 lbs since March, 147 since my max. The surgery is much safer then it used to be, medical technology has advanced and the risk have reduced greatly as well. Just remember, the risk of the surgery is lower than the risk of not having the surgery if you are obese. Good luck!

That's amazing! Congrats!

Still really push the liquids when you are using any sort of stool softener or evacuation promoter.

Revision surgery at two different times.
Matt Z replied to Gotta win 4me's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
There is no reason other than complications why a revision should be done in 2 surgeries... or take that long. My Band to RNY took 6+ hours, because the band was fully encapsulated and took my surgeon over 3 times longer to remove it. That said, I didn't know I was under for 6+ hours. Sounds like they are either being lazy or trying to soak you for more money. -
Liquid diet phase.. loose stools?
Matt Z replied to Anita watson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It certainly can. The lack of solid matter intake will do that to some folks. -
At what point do you stop counting the months?
Matt Z replied to xoxococojay's topic in Rants & Raves
I feel the same way about the babies too and I make sure NOT to do that crap. When my kid was 2... he was 2, not 24 months. -
drinking cold water
Matt Z replied to raidersnation's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Do you have issues with room temp or warm water? Some folks experience liquid temp/texture issues post surgery for a while. -
Try Colace. With miralax it floods your intestines with water, so you need to make sure your water intake is quite high or you'll get cramping. Colace works by actually softening the stool.

Once you hit the year mark, you start doing things in Years typically. Anyone not using years after hitting the year mark... you've got me why they are still doing it LOL.
