    Post Op Advice

Surgery (what you'll experience) and recovery were about the same for the most part. I was also banded in 2011 and had issues, I was revised to the Bypass this past March (could not be happier!). Most def bring that pillow! All other advice is really the same as the band, with the exception of, don't buy too much before surgery to prep... more than likely you either won't use it, will have too much or won't like the taste. It was advised to me that revision patients don't lose as quickly as first timers, just something to be aware of... that said, I'm down 100 lbs since March, so, your mileage may vary. Otherwise, good luck!
  2. Heading back to the gym today. Hopefully it helps. Stuck on the same 2-3 damn lbs that it's getting VERY frustrating. Trying very very very hard not to get too depressed about the stall. I've got 12 lbs to lose in 15 days. Pretty sure that's not going to happen.
  3. Well, I *could* do without snow...but I'm good with constant threat of fire and earthquake LOL
  4. I took it yesterday at around 5. Didn't have to go until 1 am. Then 2 am, 3 am, 4 am, 530 am. And I'm still getting a LOT of noise and discomfort... I might leave work, not just because of the cramping, but I also got a hitch in my left hip and my spinal arthritis is flaring up (which is on the right side), feels like rain is on the way in.
  5. I'd say it worked... might have to leave work early due to the cramping... but... I'm at my lowest since WLS ever now LOL.
  6. Not that low, but my HR floats around 50-60 when I'm reclined and resting, makes getting up quickly a bit tough as my blood pressure is also a lot lower than it's been, hopefully it's something my body gets used to, but for now, I have to take a moment almost every time I get up from the couch.
  7. I bring stuff, plant based protein snacks, things I can eat, lots of water, etc.

Is one week off work enough?

I would not recommend only a week off. For so many reasons. I took 2 full months off for my lap band, and 2 full months off for my revision to bypass. VERY glad I did!

    Weight gain!!

I’m lactose intolerant, so other than soy or lactose free products I don’t have much else, I feel as though my calorie intake is just so low, I understand our portion sizes become much smaller but I feel as though I’m a new born child with how little my body can handle Lots of lactose intolerant people can tolerate whey proteins isolates, because isolates are highly filtered to remove lactose. It's the Protein Concentrates that lactose intolerant people REALLY want to stay away from.

    Weight gain!!

Start eating high calorie foods, fruits, breads, starches. If calories in = total calories burned, then you won't lose weight. Have you talked to your nutritionist about this yet?

    I don't think I'm ready ):

As stated, second thoughts are 100% normal. Also, what is going to happen after surgery, more than likely isn't going to be as hard or devastating as you think it is now. Now, that said, it's not super easy, it takes time, effort and a willingness to change, because all those things you are going to "miss" are the things you more than likely shouldn't be eating or... are addicted to. No judgement, just truths. I had issues shortly after surgery, my family would cook and it would smell amazing and I was sitting there with 1 oz of something pureed. It was pretty though emotionally. Then when they would make toast... ugh, so crappy. BUT That didn't last forever. I can eat a lot more things that I expected to be able to. I can drink beer without any issues. I avoid soda now anyway, but I've had some. Sparking water is fine too. But these things you *REALLY* want to wait until you are 6+ months out before you start trying to work back into your diet. Nicotine is an odd one, it's not Nicotine that people get addicted to, it's the other junk the cigarettes that folks crave. I'm a cigar smoker. Cigars have more nicotine per cigar (on average) than an entire pack of cigarettes, yet, I've never, nor have I ever seen anyone, that was "jonesing" for a cigar and just "had to have one"... I never see cigar smokers out in the rain and snow getting their "nic fix". If nicotine was as addictive as folks want you to believe, then cigar smokers would be worse than cigarette smokers... but we aren't. That said, I smoke cigars still, no issues. I eat bread on occasion, I just opt for the high grain count versions and I avoid white flour when possible. I drink beer on occasion, no issues. I try to follow the 5 grams fat/added sugar thing, but I don't always, I LOVE cheese, which is high in fat... yet, no issues. Don't worry about what might be now, because odds are, what you are worried about won't be what happens down the road. Just remember all the reasons you want the surgery. Weigh it out, it's your call. If you are happier and want to accept the negatives that come with being overweight, that's 100% up to you.

    New to bariatric pal

Don't give up, there are LOTS of reasons you could be stalling out. How's your water intake? If you aren't getting close to 100 oz, try to. The human body needs between 90 and 100 oz of water a day, for a normal human. When you start adding fat loss, since fat is water soluble, your body needs extra water to process fat removal, as well as toxin flushing. So working up to 128oz of water a day (or as close as possible) really helps out in many ways. Also, just because you are not losing "weight" doesn't mean you aren't losing fat. There have been so many times where I didn't lose an oz, but dropped a few tenths of a % of body fat. So just because you don't see the scale moving, doesn't mean you aren't doing things correctly. Just keep doing what you should, tracking what you should and working on getting in lots of water.

    Green stools and diarheoa

Pay close attention to what you are eating and when the symptoms recur. Also, it's pretty common for people to become less tolerant to lactose post op, make sure your supplements aren't "Protein concentrate" as these have higher levels of lactose than milk does because it's just concentrated milk proteins. "Protein Isolate" has little to no lactose. If your current protein is a concentrate, switch to an isolate and see if that helps any.

    Thank you

It just takes a little, tiny bit of effort to treat each other the way you'd like to be treated. I also wish more people adopted the "golden rule".
  15. Yeah... more than likely should have waited... didn't get much sleep last night, up *A LOT* and today ugh... really don't want to be at work... but here I am. Oh and 209.1 this morning LOL
  16. Trying this now, mildly scared about what's going to occur lol Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    New Puppy (Help)

Best advice is to go out with her when you are trying to show here where to go, lead her to the area of the yard that'll be ok for her to use all the time. Just keep doing that and in a few, she'll do it on her own. You could also get her a vest if it's really cold.
  18. Fresh cashews will change your life. Like, just off the tree fresh. Had some in Nicaragua and was so upset the next time when I missed the season.
  19. IF amazes me every time. I only consumed a total of 630 calories since 6pm Tuesday... and I'm not hungry at all. Not tired. Not "hangry". Just... Fine. I feel like I could go another day without any notice at all.

    Stalled at 6 weeks

Certainly check all the posts using the Search function. That said, what's your calorie intake vs output. How's your water intake? Are you following the diet you are supposed to be or are you off doing your own thing? Are you tracking your food intakes? Don't forget that you could be losing fat and not losing "weight" as odd as that sounds, there are so many times that I'd drop fat % but not a single oz. Just keep doing what you are supposed to, max out on the water (128oz if possible) and focus on lean meats and veggies.

    Liquid intake worries!

You should be drinking upwards of 128 oz of water a day now as it is... 64 oz isn't even enough for a human normally. (not counting other "water" sources) right now the recommended minimum is around 100 oz. I always stress pushing for 128 oz, for several reasons. First and foremost, your body needs the water. Secondly, fat is water soluble, and requires water above your daily needs to most effectively process the fat removal. It's not as hard to do as it seems, it just takes changes in your normal habits. Keeping a bottle with you at all times and actually drinking it, helps. Will you die... eh, you'd get really sick and end up in the hospital before that happened, unless you just totally ignored all the dehydration warning signs. But still, don't stress about things just work at making changes slowly. Not everyone can just start magically being able to consume 128oz of water a day, you work up to it slowly. So... start now, get that habit fully "stuck" before surgery.

    no energy-preop diet

Yeah that's pretty common, hammer the water, it helps flush out the toxins that your body is more than likely working on getting rid of.
  23. I take colace daily, I've got smooth moves tea as well as miralax... might have to take them all at once and just go Vesuvius on the watershed.

    Still uncomfortable

Start adding in some complex carbs, breads, etc. Calculate your BMI and then eat that amount + whatever you burn for the day for exercise, if total burn = total intake, the result will be zero weight loss.

    What to eat at 8wks!?

Yup, 6 weeks I was cleared for everything other than raw veggies, at 8 weeks all food (that I could tolerate) was fair game. Our Nutritionist pushes whole foods over processed. She's a vegan but doesn't require or enforce restrictions on meats, our only "rule" was to ensure that no added sugars are present, if so then the total sugar count per serving needs to be less than 5g, fat needs to also be less than 5g per serving.
