    Sleeved On November 9

Hello there. I am Gabrielle and I was sleeved on November 9, 2011. I've read lots of stuff about how wonderful people feel after the sleeve, but I am still wondering if I did the right thing. I started at 228 lbs. and was 215 on the day of surgery. I'm 5'6". No less then THREE people on the day of surgery (at the hospital) told me I was too small for the surgery. So, I lay on the bed telling myself to run while I still could. My surgery was scheduled for 1:45 p.m., and I got to the hospital at 11 a.m. The handsome young man that took me back and had me change into the gown expressed surprise that I was having the sleeve surgery. Then the young woman that came to scrub my tummy and add the plexi booties said the same thing. Then the RN that started the IV said it again! By then it was around noon, and I had to lay there for 1 hour and 45 minutes second guessing myself. Needless to say, I went through with it. When I woke up after the surgery, I was extremely nauseous and in pain only when I moved. The nausea lasted the rest of that day and most of the rest. I went home on the third day, and have not had any nausea since, except when I take the liquid vitamins. I have switched to gummy vitamins, although I'm sure I'll be scolded for it when I go for my post-op on Tuesday. What's strange is I was able to take the liquid vitamins without the nausea before the surgery, but not now. What gives? So, other than some major pain upon trying to get out of bed, and having to choke down the horrible protein shakes, I guess I'm making a good recovery. On Wednesday (one week after surgery) and Thursday, I could not stop crying. I don't even know why I was crying. Is this normal? Anyway...so far, I'm sort of regretting the surgery. I'm hoping this will pass and that I will feel better as I return toward a more normal life. I am hoping to return to work next week and I think that will help.

    Ugh! Stupid Evaluation!

Even though I was self pay, my insurance (CIGNA) paid for my evaluation. I just had a $10 co-pay. May be worth checking with your insurance company.

    Ensure Protein Drink

The EAS carb control shakes are the only ones I've found that I like. I buy them at Wal-Mart.
  4. Hi Lilliana, I felt the same way for the first week or so. I cried alot and had many regrets, wondering if I'd made a mistake. I will be three weeks post-op tomorrow and feel so much better. I've lost 28 lbs (counting the two week Protein diet before surgery). Please hang in there. It WILL get better. I got a lot of encouragement from the people on this site who are further along post-op, and I'm sure you will be hearing from some of them too. I hope you feel better soon.
  5. Hello! I am two weeks post-op and I am so sick of drinking the sweet shakes. I saw the nurse for my two week post-op today and told her that I am only managing about 2 servings (30 grams) of protein for the last three days because just the though for drinking one more sweet thing makes me sick. It seems to me after reading several of the posts on here that some of you got to go to Phase 2 (the mushy, blenderized stage) after 2 weeks. The nurse today told me that one of the docs in the practice lets his patients do that, but my surgeon won't. So, will some of you who went to Phase 2 after two weeks please let me know what you ate and how well you tolerated it? I really want to follow the docs orders but I just don't think I can stand two more weeks of this. I'm starting to feel weak from not getting all the protein and carbs in. Please help! Thanks very much.

Advice Please Regarding Phase 2 Eating

That's good to hear. Thanks. Did you blend to a liquid consistency? I can't wrap my mind around what that would look and taste like. Thanks for your advice.

    Sleeved On November 9

Thank you so much, Becca and Helen, for the encouraging words. I am finally starting to feel better and more hopeful. Your responses were most helpful for me. Thank again!
  9. Gosh...I'm so sorry to hear about your problem. I hope you get better very soon.
  10. I was sleeved on November 9 at 1:45 p.m. My doc also repaired a hiatal hernia. The second day I was so nauseated I thought I would die. Today I am home and feeling better. Thank goodness there are good meds for pain and nasuea. Now I am overwhelmed by the different drugs to take and having to figure out how much protein and carbs to get in while sipping every 15 minutes. It's a little scary but I am thrilled to have taken this step that will change my life for the better. Any advice about how to get all the protein and carbs in would be very much appreciated. Thanks for listening!

    Got sleeved november 8th

I was sleeved on November 9 and they also fixed a hiatal hernia. I have been in quite a bit of pain and the nausea on the second day made me want to lay down and die! Home today and feeling better but still in lots of pain and very overwhelmed by all the medications and having to drink one or two ounces every 15 minutes. Hopefully I will get used to it soon.
