Been almost three years since my surgery
royboy posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We'll I thought I could check in and share my story as when I started to research the sleeve surgery I ended up here and read all the wonderful success stories, so here is mine. I had diabetes, on insulin, uncontrolled, a1c was at the lowest of 9.2. High blood pressure, polycythemia, nerve damage in my legs, etc We'll my regular doctor told me not to have the sleeve, but if did anyway. Today I stay at 185 pounds, I'm 6 1 , it's the weight I went into the Air Force in 1977! I eat anything I want, I don't eat what anyone would call healthy. Lots of red meat, candy, bread, etc I can't tell you how the digestive process works after surgery but I can tell you that 2 weeks ago I had new labs done, now mind you a few nites ago I had 6 ice cream sandwiches for a evening meal, lol My wife was on me to get those labs done as she says I eat terribly. We'll my cholesterol was 92! Good cholesterol way up, triglycerides way down, bp 120 over 72. My doctor is amazed at this. I gave him a recap of my daily meals and he laughed, shook his head and said, well whatever your doing, it works! I feel wonderful and so much energy. What can I say? I would do it in a heartbeat again -

well time has flown by in the past 6 months. Can't tell you how good I feel since surgery. Down to 208, from 316. 44 pants to 34 pants, 3xl shirts to xl all good. 34 pants are baggy and can fit in 32's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!been along time since I wore 32 pants. LOL No more insulin, bp meds, cholesterol meds, none! Feeling wonderful. I can jump, climb, run, anything I used to do back several years ago, before I got sick. If your thinking of this surgery? It's a true winner in my book, other than not doing any buffet's. LOL I'm amazed at how good I feel and you will be also. Good luck

Well it's been 4 months last thursday since my surgery and so much has changed. Lost 96 pounds so far, 3x shits to xl, 44 pants to 34, and the energy level is thru the roof. I still get sick when I eat or should I say feeling of upset stomach and sometimes I vomit, but other than that, I'm great! Wish I could of had this surgery 5 years ago. It's also fun to shop for new cloths. LOL

If your eating what your supposed too, getting the excersize you need, it's just a matter of time, when your body lets the weight go. We are not in a race to loose weight, but a lifestyle change. Stalls may freak some people out when it happens, but it's going to happen several times thru your weight lose journey wit the sleeve. I tell myself that I'm eating 10% of what I used to eat, I move and keep moving and all of a sudden I loose again. Seems that we get discouraged or impatient if we are not loosing 5 pounds a week. LOL Just stay focused and all will be good.

Stalled After One Week?!?
royboy replied to Iliana82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't loose any weight the first week or so. Don't freak out, look at what you used to eat at just one meal alone! You have to loose the weight, it's a scientific fact. Your body will let go of the weight when it needs too. I loose then stop, I don't call it a stall, I just stop. then all of a sudden, I'll loose 5 pounds. Like others here stated, STAY OFF THAT SCALE. I only weigh myself once a week, I don't need the head games playing with me anymore. Did all that before this surgery. LOL Good Luck, you will be just fine, and a hell of alot thinner n a few short weeks, I promise. -
Surgeon Thinks I Am Unknowingly Overeating?!?
royboy replied to AJAgwu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still having trouble wit the full feeling myself at 2.5 months out. Seems if I eat yogurt or cheese I'm ok, but I too hate that full feeling to the rim as you say. Last nite I came home after work and nuked a chicken thigh with rice. Ate 1/2 the thigh and two tablespoons of rice. Like you said, full to the rim. felt aweful. If I eat 1 egg for breakfast, I fel fine. I guess it take time to adapt to eating so little at a time when I used to eat a adult sized cow at one sitting. LOL I do eat about 6 times per day. yogurt for morning and afternoon snack and maybe a few peanuts in early evening. But my weight loss has been good so far, but slowed since the first few weeks. I will also try to eat smaller portions and see how that feels too. Good Luck! -
Capt Derel's Gastric Sleeve Surgery Journey
royboy replied to Capt Derel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck Capt. Darel on your very good choice! I'm also a CGC, Pilot, and hold a commercial license. I was also fat and could move very freely with my 300 pounds. When I was in my forties, people would be amazed at what I could do with my rather large frame. I didn't have fat hanging on me, I had lots of muscle and was big. No medical issues what so ever, except a bad knee due to a bike wreck. Fast forward to age 51, high blood pressure, High cholesterol, polysythemia, and diabeties! The weight finally got me. Pilot's license on verge of being pulled, same with CGL, and then my commercial license. The thought of loosing my ability to work was the breaking point. I went to a seminar and decided that the sleeve was the way to go. I'm down 73 pounds since Dec 5th 2011 and today I go to see my regular doctor that told me to diet and not do the sleeve. I told him that when I come back in feb. he would be amazed at the transformation. Blood sugar is under 100 always, BP is 120/80, and with the lack of taste for red meats, I'm sure my cholesterol is great too. This will open his eyes to weight loss surgery rather than treating all the bad symtoms of obesity! Good luck Capt. you made a smart choice! -
I was thinking the same thing, they lost money on me for 20 years now they have a chance to get it back. LOL Seriously, I order off the kids menu at our local pub on friday nite fish nite. 3 bucks and I take home the potatoe. Or like last saturday, we stopped at our favorite mexican resturant and my wife and I, split a taco special. Just asked for a extra plate. Seems most places that we have visited go out of their way to help us. But I don't do chains like "golden coral or china buffet" No good came from those places when I could eat before surgery and going there now and watching extremely obese people shovel piles of food in their mouths would just get me upset, to say it nicely. I'm such a cheap date now. LOL

Soooo, Anyone Else Feeling Cold Much Of The Time?
royboy replied to Amanda 3.0's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been cold since day 3 of my surgery. I was the guy that could sit on the ice all day with no gloves on, no hat and enjoy a balmy 30 degree day. Now I'm wearing long underwear, sweaters and still cold. Last nite I had the stove going and it was 86 in the living room and I had to have a blanket on. Sleeve surgery has turned me into a wuss. LOL -
You bet thats harsh. So is eating solid food a week or so out from surgery. Anyone that has this surgery did their homework and knows what can happen to them, sepsis, and death!!! Now thats harsh! So if you know you can kill yourself with this behavior and then post it? You better be prepared for a harsh comment! Don't expect sympathy from me for suicidal tendencies, you need professional help, period, end of story!

Thank you Susan, I'll never go back to being whom I was. I learned my lesson for sure.

I think I'm like the average guy here. I ate anything with fat, calories, cholesterol, and oil or butter. Thats how I got sick and how I got fat. Well know one could tell me anything different before all that. LOL I am a guy's guy. Let's have a beer and a big fat T-bone steak.LOL I developed diabeties that made my leg go numb, heart started to beat differently, on insulin and metformin with a A1C of 9.4, High blood pressure, cholesterol of 250, Yup a man's man. Cardiologist said that the diabeties would kill me soon, so the surgery risk was a moot point. fast forward one year, Diabeties gone, cholesterol below 150, Blood pressure 120/80 all with zero meds! I eat only healthy foods now, zero fried, no bacon, lean pork or beef, skinless chicken etc. I found out that there is a whole world of food thats healthy and tastes great! I've learned that anything in moderation is ok, but I'm careful as to what I put in my mouth. I have learned that I knew nothing about a healthy lifestyle until I almost lost my life. Congrats on your success as you do inspire others here!!! Including myself. Thank you for sharing.

You weren't mean Pookyism, You spoke the truth. I don't even know what someone expects when they post a post like this. They need to be addressing this with a shrink and not here in my opinion. I'm here to help anyone whom needs it, but on the other hand, if they want to self destruct? They are on their own.

My first thought is why would you write this here? So your cheating and trying to reverse everything that you have accomplished so far? I think you need to see a counselor. I mean, what do you want anyone from this forum to say to you, that you haven't already heard or know. There is nothing to say other than you need to see a professional about your problem.

Anyone Disappointed In The Amount Of Weight Lost? Wish It Was More?
royboy replied to emmas mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this is the best thread I have ever read here. I have stated so many times that this is a lifestyle change and not a race! We eat about 10% of what we used to eat, healthy choices, daily excersize, with that said, We can not fail! the weight will come off, maybe slowly, maybe faster. Depends on your body, when it lets it go. I lost the first 50 pounds really fast and easy, then the loss started to slow, now I loose 1-3 pounds per week at this point. The key to my understanding this slow down period is now I'm getting all the nutrients that I need to build muscle, not like the first few weeks where loss was muscle and fat. I'm now loosing fat! Just fat! I don't work out in a gym, I work at the things that I enjoy to do on a daily basis. I fish, work on my dump trucks, etc. Just move and keep moving. I can climb, run, walk, squat, whatever and it's getting easier. Yes the weight loss is helping, but I'm building muscle again in places that I lost that from being fat and not doing these things. Thats why the weight loss has slowed down. When I first was sleeved, I had figured I would be down to 230 by march 5th 2012, well I'll be down to 240 or so on March 5th, thats a long shot from 316 on Dec 16th 2011. LOL Your not a failure, your sleeve is not a failure, give it time. all the time it needs and concentrate on living healthy, eating only good food and being thankful for what we have done while making this a change in our lives that we can live this way for the rest of our lives.
