    Leavin' On A Jet Plane

As I'm pre-op, I unfortunately don't have any suggestions for you. However, I was just wondering where in NC you're going to be? I live east of Greensboro. Plus, this will help get it bumped up so maybe you can get some helpful responses

What I Ate On Vacation (Sleeved July 2Nd)

Oh thank you thank you thank you! You give me hope for what life will be like after surgery with regards to food. I so needed to read something like this right about now.

Finally Approved! Surgery In 5 Days!

Hah, I think it has more to do with the fact that I'm one of those weird people who actually LIKES shakes. I don't mind the taste, I like the convenience, and I like that they don't require me to do dishes :oP When I feel the need to chew, I break out the SF gum and that takes care of that. I think it also helps that I'm a big water drinker, so I tend not to get hungry in between the shakes, so by the time my stomach is really screaming for something, it's time for another shake.

Finally Approved! Surgery In 5 Days!

I'm doing ok with it. I'm required to do a 1 week all shake diet pre op, which I've now been doing for almost 2 weeks since my surgery was originally scheduled for the 30th. Then we had to reschedule it, and since I didn't know when my new date would be I just kept doing the diet in case it was soon, and since it ended up being the 9th, I've just stuck with it. I didn't have too, too hard of a time transitioning into it, since I started adding shakes into my diet at least a month or two prior to having to do all shakes. So I think that helped a lot.
  6. Oh ok. I work as a CNA on a med surg floor and some of our patients can be pretty heavy on the care aspect. I'll just have to be careful moving people up in bed and probably will have to get coworkers to take some of the heavy assist patients to the bathroom for me. Luckily with school I'm only working 4 hour shifts, but my clinicals for nursing school are 12 hours at a time, and a lot of being on your feet.

Finally Approved! Surgery In 5 Days!

Congrats! That's so awesome! So that puts your surgery on the 9th? That's when mine is!
  8. I also wanted to ask and forgot earlier...what kind of work do you do? I work in a fairly physical job and was concerned about going back.
  9. Oooooh I hope I get to have an experience like yours! I'm going in with an attitude that I will, and hope I bounce back quickly like I did from two of my knee surgeries (not even gonna talk about how horrible recovery from the third was! lol) Just wondering, how old are you and how much did you weigh going in if you don't mind me asking? I'm 25 and am right around 245, so I'm hoping that will work in my favor.

    What Do You Tell People

Eh, who cares what they think. Easier said than done though, I know. My immediate family knows (as I moved back in with them to help out a few months ago..would be kind of hard to hide it from them) and a few friends know. All work knows is that I'm having surgery and will be back after x number of days. School doesn't know a darn thing about it cause it's none of their bees wax. You tell people if and when you feel comfortable to tell that specific person, and that is a very personal decision for everyone. I know there are some people that I work with who I will NEVER tell, just because of how judgmental they are about WLS, and these are people who WORK with patients who have it done...blows my mind.

    Have I Been Forgotten?

Please, do NOT feel like you are pestering them. This is your health care, and you do have some rights and responsibilities. Trust me, I was on the phone at least 3 times a day for the last week or so between the doctors office and the insurance people trying to get things moved along and pushed through. Did I feel like I was crawling up people's butts? Yea, kind of. Did it get things done in a much more timely manner than it likely otherwise would have? Definitely. You have to advocate for yourself, because there are very few people in the office (if there are any) who will do it for you. It doesn't hurt to make a phone call just to touch base with them and see where things are at. Speaking from the point of view of someone who works in health care, sometimes things get kind of crazy and people can use a gentle reminder that you're there. If nothing else, it shows that you're involved in how your journey is going to go and are motivated.
  13. So the fabulous scheduling coordinator at my surgeon's office called me today and managed to work me in on the 9th, after my surgery date on the 30th had to be rescheduled cause I was running a fever and under the weather. Poor thing was on the phone all afternoon moving up his surgeries at another hospital so that they could get me in the afternoon of the 9th at the hospital I'm having mine done at. It's gonna be a tight fit to get back on my feet in time for clinicals on the 18th, but I'll handle it.
  14. Hey y'all! I'm Sarah down here in good ol' North Carolina. I started my journey back November/December, finished the 6 month physician supervised diet that my insurance required in June, got approved a few days after paper submittal, and was waiting on summer classes to finish so I can have surgery the 30th. Funny thing about all this is...I started out as an RNY patient and up until 2 days ago, was still an RNY patient. Had a little nagging feeling in the back of my head telling me that I might have chosen the wrong procedure, so I did more reading, more digging, more talking to people, more EVERYTHING, and then had a major panic attack when I realized a WEEK before surgery that I had picked the wrong one *facepalm* Called my surgeon's office bright and early yesterday (before the patient coordinator was even in the office, as it turns out...the lovely lady at the answering service sent me to her cell phone), went to see my fabulous doctor today (making a 3 and a half hour drive home from the beach and back in the process), and now I'm just waiting to see if the insurance company can give me a really quick approval for a different procedure before Monday! It's been a wild and crazy ride, but all the anxiousness I was feeling leading up to surgery and totally gone away since I made the decision to switch my procedure...just a tad bit anxious about whether or not it will actually be happening on Monday as it was originally planned now. Anywho...that got way longer than I originally intended, but when I get going I get going. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here and to pick y'alls brains about stuff!

    Brand Spankin' New Here!

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping that since the first approval came so fast that the next won't take long at all. The patient coordinator said that she would call me this evening or tomorrow morning with an update.
