I'd like to congratulate Jessie also! That's awesome! Stories like your's, ousoonner and others keep us going. Going to dust off my Crossbow (like Bowflex) and get with it. Guys, for those interested in the challenge, I listed my starting weight (233), in my signature. This should be a for fun project where no one is a loser and we all root for each other. I hope it's a tie and we all lose a bunch. Why don't we go through May and see how it goes? If any one else has any ideas, PLEASE speak up. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! Bruce

Use mine every morning to make my Protein shake. Have also used it to make some delicious salsa and coleslaw. Cleans up much easier than our blender.... Bruce

Got an idea! Why don't we just open up a "Guys Only Challenge"? Regardless of your starting weight. I really don't want to exclude any one who wants to join in. Maybe the low man after a month or two would have to post daily for a month in the threads that guys normally wouldn't post (the "touchy-feely" threads, PMS, etc.) or document that they watch Opra for a week (or tape it and watch it). Any other thoughts? Bruce

Your only weightloss will be in your back pocket. Bruce

For the most part, it's normal. I've found I can eat most of what I used to, just smaller portions. You will at some time have to deal with your chocolate issues. The band will not help you with that. Good Luck! Bruce

If I was starving and McDs were the ONLY choice, I'd eat the meat of a Quarter Pounder w/ cheese or a salad. I've eaten Wendy's chilli a couple times.... Holy Cow Sheila! You're doing fantastic! Bruce

first fill experiences
Brewa2000 replied to LauraG.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I didn't have any problems with either of my two fills. Next one in two weeks... Bruce -
Hey Rep! First fill was March 9. Got 4.5 cc. This last fill (4/6) made it an even 7 cc in my VG band. Still feel fair restiction. Not losing like last week, yet anyway... You should be getting close to your first fill. Bruce
-
You won't for the first couple weeks, but after that I don't see why not. I don't sleep on my stomach, but I haven't had any stomach pain since week two. Maybe others have had different expriences. Good luck! Bruce

I second what Pat said. I'm a little closer to your age and have had no problems. I'm feeling better every day. Today I caught myself RUNNING up the stairs at the post office! I thought to myself, I haven't run up stairs for decades! There was a guy about 65 in my group who had the surgery around Jan 20. Last I heard, he'd lost 45 lbs. Not as fast as some of the young bucks, but not bad... Bruce

Probably. It's an individual thing. I haven't PBed but I get the pain in the chest from not chewing enough, too big of bites and dry foods. Bruce
-
Just go to the ticker factory, click on edit, enter your password and change your weight. It's easy, even I can do it :-) Looks like you are doing well! Bruce
-
Wishing you good luck and a quick recovery. Let us know how it goes... Bruce

I did eat a little before starting to get fills (at an Asian Restaraunt). Now I would not do it on a bet. WASa is correct, there are much better food choices than white rice, most breads and pasta. Who needs filler? I would eat more veggies or low sugar fruits than the white carbs. JMHO Bruce

Thanks for the info, NotSoBig. I get concerned about that too. I try to just put my food on my small plate and put the rest away. It's very tempting to go back to the fridge and go for seconds. You're so right, the band will not do it all. Stand Strong Brothers! Bruce

You will notice a HUGE difference after a fill or two (or three). I know the second fill I got made a world of difference. Bruce

Congrats Dave, looks like your on your way! Reptile-it is that 'tweener time of the year. I'm not a big baseball fan and don't care for pro basketball at all. I haven't attend any big league games of any sport since the mid 80s. Got tired of supporting a bunch of big babies. I still enjoy college football, basketball, and wrestling. I do go to the local minor league baseball team games. *Chuckle* I used to love those big polish sausages. It'd be a three meal deal now, even minus the bun. 396- I believe that slipping and eroding are rare problems. It is much more common for the pouch to be stretched. Didn't get to go to the ticker factory to change my weight today. It sure was fun losing a lb a day while it lasted. Had a big dinner (for me anyway) last night. Wife gets her first fill today. She wanted another "last supper". Stand Strong Brothers! Bruce

7 cc in a 10 cc band. Two fills. Bruce

At a meeting last night with some fellow brewers, we talked about that very subject. Everyone was wondering why I wasn't enjoying a homebrew or craft beer. I told them my situation and that I need to stay away from carbonated beverages. I was offered a Guiness because concenses was that it was low carbonation plus low carbs, but I declined. I'd want to try on my own at a later date. Maybe to celebrate reaching my goal. I don't want to embarass myself and besides that, I'm doing so well lately that I don't want to mess it up. So, for me, if I need to have a drink, it'll be a JD on the rocks. Bruce

Yes, I just had my second fill last Friday. I've been losing a pound a day since! Looks like you're off to a great start! Bruce
-
Welcome harlito and Wendell Edwards! We have some fun here and talk about guy issues with the band. Sometimes we even talk sports. Enjoy your thread! Thanks for the complement Reptile. You are doing super also! I wish you luck in getting back into the 170s. I hope we both get there there at some time in the not too distant future. Whoever gets there first I hope the other isn't far behind. I'm rootin' for all us losers! Bruce
-
Way to go Mike! Congratulations to all the upcoming bandits. I had my second fill Friday. I have restriction now! Been losing a pound a day since. Before the fill, I was struggling, eating smaller portions, but had to force myself to not eat more. Now I HAVE to eat slow, chew well and eat small amounts. And I'm OK with it. Love the results! Stand Strong Brothers! Bruce

Petite portions at Outback steak house!
Brewa2000 replied to waterlily1072's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We ate at Outback last night. I saw the smaller portions menu, but I ordered the salmon off the regular menu and brought home over half of it. If I wasn't able to or didn't want to take a leftover box home, I'd go for the smaller portions. Definitely a good idea! Bruce -
You're right, I just heard on the radio that Easter is the second leading holiday for the sale of candy! I'm all for family gatherings, but like Barb, I have a hard time connecting a rabbit to a resurrection. Bruce I started a similar thread under Foods before seeing this one. Sorry

After mulling it over, we decided to go with a nice BBQed prime rib. It'll be our first attempt at BBQed beef since our surgeries. It should be OK as it is a very tender cut. Can't wait. Can almost taste the meat and horseradish now! :hungry: Have a great holiday (also my b'day)! Bruce
