I originally thought about lap band a couple of years ago. I am 36 years old and have struggled with my weight for 14 years. I was tiny my whole life until I had my first child. I developed health problems during my pregnancy and was never able to shed the excess weight. I tried every diet out there with little success. I tried working out, nutritionist, personal trainers....you name it and I tried it. My blood pressure and insulin resistance continued to get worse and with each new medication I would gain more weight. I am on 4 blood pressure medications and 1 diabetic medication. Finally, at the end of 2010 my Cardiologist is the one who suggested weight loss surgery. Although my BMI was at the lower end of the requirements he felt like I was a perfect candidate. He said with the combination of medications I was on the I would struggle with my weight for the rest of my life. So that is when I started searching for a surgeon. I contacted my insurance company and obtained all of the requirements. Thats when I discovered Dr Macik. I scheduled my consultation for Feb. 2011. I went in, he explained the procedure options, their requirements and we got the ball rolling. His office was amazing at keeping me on track and infomed at each step in the journey. I had a waiting period of 6 months with my insurance and when that was over they submitted my paperwork and I had surgery 6 weeks later. I had my surgery just 2 weeks ago and I am feeling better already! It has been much harder than I anticipated but well worth it. I look forward to the success to come.
