  1. I had lap-band to sleeve surgery April 9, 2018. My original lap band was successful for about 2 years, then it broke somehow and needed to be replaced. Before the replacement, I began vomiting and having daily reflux. I also felt a constant poking pain in my rib cage whenever I exercised. I had gotten down to 145 lbs from a start weight of 235 lbs, but vomited daily. The band was replaced, but never worked for me again. I began gaining weight immediately after surgery and got back up to 225 lbs before having sleeve revision surgery. The day after surgery I had a barium swallow X-Ray done and learned a part from the first band that was replaced nearly 3 years ago had broken off, and floated through my abdomen and is now lodged in my left rib cage (explaining the poking feeling the doctor told me was all in my head when I brought it up 3 years ago!) I was told by my sleeve doctor (who is a different doctor from the lap band doctor- but a partner in the medical practice) he could remove it during an office visit or just leave it if it didn't start to bug me. I am not sure about all this. Any suggestions?
  2. Thanks all. I just thought it sounded fishy that he would want to remove it in an office visit. Makes me wonder if they are just trying to quietly make a dangerous mistake go away without anyone knowing, which kind of scares me a little.

    Scared out of my mind

Try to change your perspective, this surgery may likely save your life. You can find horror stories everywhere, but the truth is you will die sooner from obesity or have an unfulfilling life as a result of related issues (joint pain, hypertension, shortness of breath, sleep issues,etc.). Look at this as a hike up a mountain in unknown territory, there will be struggles but they are so worth it when you get to the top of the mountain and turn around. (I had sleeve surgery April 9th, after a failed lap band 5 years ago. So far I am down 24 lbs and my joint pain is already gone.)
  4. I figured out the ticker thing. Just go to your picture and name on the top right of the page and click the down arrow. Then click my tickers and you can create one. Its kind of fun.
  5. Me too Star2017. I had surgery Monday, feel alot of chest discomfort and was just released home today from the hospital. I am struggling to drink an entire protein drink over 8 hours. I keep putting warm one back in fridge to drink a colder one. Lots of pain and the scale says Im up 3 lbs! I think thats due to the iV so Im not too concerned. I did get a fleeting moment of "what did I do"but I think as i lose and get healthy that will pass.

    Surgery tomorrow!!!!!

MY urgery was this morning. I am in ICU and all went well. They had to remove the band and do the sleeve. I'm feeling pretty good so far. I would describe it as the kind of pain you would feel from doing way way too many sit-ups. They are telling me I will be here till Thursday.

    Sad :( No Restriction

I was right where you are at, then my last fill put me into the green zone and I am steadily losing now at about 2-3 lbs a week. The doctor said if he had filled too quickly, I would have struggled more and not adjusted my eating habits enough. Dont worry, it is coming and soon you will be restricted and losing.

    Preparation

Before you know it, November will be here. I am 4 months post-op and down only about 30 lbs so far, but my doctor took fills really slow so I could adjust my eating habits. I feel much better already and you will too.
  12. I am with Cheri, I have depression and have also been in AA for years. I would think most of us used food for comfort like an alcoholic uses alcohol. Now without the food, you may find yourself without the thing you turned to for years. I know that was part of my problem, when I got sober I started using food..then when I was banded I had to deal with other core issues & face why I over-indulge in everything. It might be time to talk with someone or see a doctor. I know I could not pull myself out of depression, I needed help. You are not alone. Patty

    1 Week Post Surgery

Yes, I gained in the beginning..then lost 30 lbs fast, then stopped losing again. Give yourself time. It is a game of your body catching up with whats going on. It will come together soon. I am at 4 months post op, & down 30 lbs. I hit a plateau and now I am starting to lose again. It just takes time. Don't worry.

    Omg Phlegm

I know exactly what you are talking about, it happened to me last night. VERY UNPLEASANT!! For me, I think I had food stuck from not chewing enough. I had just gotten a fill yesterday and was not yet used to the smaller amounts I have to eat & I used to be able to swallow larger bites of food because I had much less restriction. Try chewing more.

    Help.

I'm 4 month post op and have no pain at all, just mild discomfort from time to time if I overeat. I think you should see someone else and get a 2nd opinion. Good Luck Patty
